I'm not passing judgement one way or the other, but there are many other reasons (besides steroid use) on having a higher than normal nandrolone reading..

"Urine analysis as a method of detecting nandrolone abuse has recently become somewhat controversial, following studies by the University of Aberdeen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Aberdeen) showing that the metabolite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metabolite) product can also show up in urine in quantities above the upper limit from a combination of high-protein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protein) diets utilising the legal nutritional supplement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutritional_supplement) creatine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatine) and hard cardiovascular exercise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardiovascular_exercise). The reason for this unexpected result has not been determined. Another possible (though unlikely) reason for a false positive result is the consumption of beef (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beef) from cattle treated with steroids including nandrolone (used in overturning the verdict against the bobsleigh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobsleigh) racer, Lenny Paul (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lenny_Paul&action=edit)). Heavy consumption of the essential amino acid lysine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysine) (as indicated in the treatment of cold sores) has also shown false positives in some and was cited by American Shotputter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotput) C.J. Hunter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C.J._Hunter) as the reason for his positive test. A final possible cause of incorrect urine test results is the presence of metabolites from other anabolic steroids. As a result of the numerous overturned verdicts, the testing procedure was reviewed by UK Sport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Sport) [1] (http://web.archive.org/web/20051026175958/http://www.uksport.gov.uk/images/uploaded/nandrevv2.pdf) in 2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000)."

I find this hard to believe, but then again I also find hard to believe a 40yr old can keep up with these younger stronger guys.Even if it is Royce Gracie,,,Hughes gave him a beat down & I chalked it partly due to Royces age.

Don't find it hard to believe since "the natural", now the heavy weight champ is in early forties and Chuck Lidell, is almost forty. NO, I think Hughes just beat him period.

false-positive can occur, but i believe the ratio is somewhere around 1:400-500. The Urine Analysis is a cost-efficient method, which can usually be repeated several times as the cost of a single test of other more in-depth methods.
But it's actually fairly obvious that Royce is guilty of his charge. Photo comparisons, as well as his own family of honor sending their spite tell the story.

I enjoyed Gracie fighting years back using the Gee to submit his opponents.

check out this bit of news from the CSAC:

"A normal person could have a level of 2 ng/mL of Nandrolone that the human body could potentially produce and an athlete that has just completed rigorous physical exercise could have a level of 6 ng/mL.

We received a written response from the laboratory's Director of Science and Technology confirming the positive "A" sample and positive "B" sample.

Both samples provided by Mr. Gracie had a level of over 50 ng/mL and we were informed that the level itself was so elevated that it would not register on the laboratory's calibrator."

If you've ever trained seriously, then you know it will beat the crap out of you.If you're doing it full time, then you're probably gonna need something for recovery.I'm not saying it's right, just part of the sport.
