Default Red Line ShockProof Gear Oil Review

I know this has been beaten to death but I wanted to throw in my .02. I just changed out from Amsoil to Red line heavy and there was a major differance in the noise level in my 07 RKClassic's tranny. 5th gear is still noticable however about 1/2 a loud as it used to be. Shifting is still with a clunk but the tranny sounds different with a more solid sound if that makes sense. Finding the "N" is a breeze. This seems to be good stuff. A little hard to find but considering that you don't change it out that often itis worth in my opinion.

My experience with it in several bikes has been very good. Certainly improved the shifting in my 06 Roadglide as it did in my 04 Wideglide. Harley people havebeen using it for a long time with satisfaction, in fact, lots of dealers used to carry it alongside Harley stuff before "Boutiqueville" set inand , I think, the MOCO cracked down on carrying "foreign" stuff.

It is many riders' choice who don't necessarily worship at the alter of the Amsoil gods.

Kind of ironic for HD to criticize Redline since most of the Harley lubricants are made by Citgo which is run by the famous dictator Chavez and Redline lubes are made in California. Buy American.......yeah sure.

OK, I'm ready to try it - can order online... I changed out from the stuff my 07 Road King Classic shipped with from factory at my 1000 mile a few weeks ago... love the bike, but the tranny is noisy as hell, 5th gear loud, etc. I put Mobil 1 20w-50 v-twin in the engine and primary and mobil 1 75w-90 in the tranny - felt smoother, but just as noisy. So, I got some Amsoil severe gear 75w-140 snd put it in the tranny yesterday - definitely quiter, much better, but still noiser than I would expect, and I am not naive about Harley's. So, I'll continue on my tests and quest to find the best noise reducer, and try Redline as soon as I can get it shipped. I'll see how that goes and let you know. If I really can't live with it after that, I might seriously consider the Baker F6F tranny fix - a few of the HD dealers in the Portland area actually are vendors for Baker - go figure a third party has the fix that HD corporate refuses to deal with.

Happy trails...

If you are near Lafayette, Louisiana, it is stocked (in great quantity) by Full Moon Cycles. They are located off of Johnston St. on Perard St.

Mine currently has Amsoil Severe Gear in it (dealer put it in at 1K service) andthe tranny islouder/noisier than with the OEM oil that was in there from the factory. Will be changing it out at 5K to something else...

My dealer stocks it and recommends Redline in all three holes. I'll be putting in the Redline Shockproff Heavy gear oil in the trans and Redline oil in the engine and primary next week on my 1000 mile checkup. I've been wondering why Amsoil did not include Redline oil in their comparison chart of oils.

Of all the syns commonly discussed here, only Redline has a group V synthetic base. This is the most expensive to make and , arguably, the best. Of course, the good folks who push Amsoil will probably say the groupV esthersin redline are "overkill"![sm=hail.gif]

www.myoilshop.com Put mos10 in the comments section of the order and you get ten percent off the listed price.

For summer use, where the bike is ridden, mostly, in temperatures over 80F, you can also consider the Redline 20/60. It is supposed to have 2X the heat protection as a dino 20/50 AND Harley is fine with a 60 wt. (and this is a multi-grade 60 wt.) for high temperature operation. I would think with the higher reported operating temps. of the 07s that this is a no brainer!
