Default New FLHX is making me consider....

Trading...
The two main reasons are the optional ABS system (safety) and the extra gas in the tank (convenience). I would rather wait and see if the MOCO comes out with aftermarket ABS in the near future, and see if the 6 gal tank will retrofit to my older Streetglide. I hope I can go that route, because I really, really, really like my '06.

dgator - Obviously it's your decision to make, but consider this.
1) While Brembo is a very respected manufacturer, this is a first year system and is not out of the realm of reality to have some bugs. It is also possible they will be standard equipment on the '09 models, so why pay for an option now when you can get it as standard later. Of course they will probably jack the msrp up to reflect ABS as standard equipment. Also, I don't think it has been confirmed where the ABS brain is located. I have heard the police bikes have it mounted in the saddlebag. This would be a deal killer for me.

2) The 6 gallon tank is nice if you ride solo. If you happen to ride in a group, you're going to have to stop when the first guy that needs gas is empty. If they aren't riding an '08, you're not gaining anything really.

Please don't take the above as being critical, just giving you something to think about.

You?? Critical??? Nah, I know where you are coming from. The only info I have seen so far is on the HD website. I would have to see one up close to make a decision. My bike is my car, so the extra gas makes sense in my situation. I have always wanted ABS, but you are absolutely right about the first year debugging. I definitely wouldn't want to lose any saddlebag space, either. I am pretty slow when it comes to adapting to change. The 96in motor and six speed didn't cause me to go out and buy an '07. The ABS is one of the few technological innovations that would make me even think about trading.

Just a FYI, seems that the ABS will be located under one of the side covers, so your saddlebags will remain as roomy as it has ever been. Read that here... http://www.box.net/shared/tjuvmyyybzjust go to the touring part.

Nice link... seems to clear up the question that people have been asking about being able to retrofit either the 6 gallon tank, or the electronic throttle control (no to both).

I am all about change and I invite it, but TO ME there is nothing on the '08's that would tempt me to take the plunge on obtaining one if I already had a late model HD to start with. ABS and a bigger tank are not appealing to me as far as selling a late model harley. Like BZ pointed out, I'm stopping for the cruisers that I ride with anyway and ABS is just something else to break.........hella expensive to fix too. Is ABS a nice feature? Yea, but I personally don't need nor want it even IF I was buying an '08........I'd still pass.

I'll give all this some time and let the brave guinea pigs go first......

the nice thing is that ABS is optional... however, the standard brembo stoppers should improve the marginal stock braking on the glides... I've used brembo's on many other bikes/car, they have ALWAYS improved stopping... worth every penny considering if I bought an 07 model i'd be getting aftermarket brakes from PM or someone... while i'd not opt for the ABS, i do like the optional cruise control on the all touring models... its 100 bucks cheaper than adding it to an 07, plus you don't have to do the install yourself, not a big deal to me, but why not???

the only thing i'm mildly concerned about on the 08's is the electronic throttle control... thank goodness i won't be in the market til this time next year anyway... i'll be able to see how well it work by then... i hate guinea pigging for any manufacturer be it car, bike, sled, or even for a pc or a camera... i'll leave that to the early adopters...
