07 Security System - Dead..
I'm riding home from work yesterday - and the engine goes dead. I hit the starter - nothing.
The red security key is lit up - and thinking maybe my FOB had died - I call the wife - get the other FOB - nothing.
I try to disarm the security system using the instructions in the manual - nothing.
The book says if the security key on the speedometer stays lit up - then the Security System needs service.
Well thats nice -but unfortunately - I'm stranded - I call HOG... and they send someone to rescue me.
Thanks to HOG I was rescued - now I've got to get this thing fixed. Hopefully it will be a warranty issueand it won't cost me anything.
Wouldn't it be nice if the security system failed - it would still run?? I just returned from a 5000 mile trip and I'm sure glad this didn't happen during that.

RE: 07 Security System - Dead..
Yes - I would except the red key on the speedometer stays on... and according to the book - it says security system needs servicing..
I'm sure it is a short somewhere - before I take it to the Stealer - I'm going to pull the front of the fairing off and look around at all the wires and see if anything is astray

RE: 07 Security System - Dead..
I just dug out my electrical diagnostic manual for my 07 Sporty and it says this:
- with the ignition switch turned on the security lamp will illuminate for 4secs (normal operation)
- If the security lamp does NOT come on when the ignition switch is turned on the problem is likely to be in instrument failure
- If the lamp illuminates late (20secs) the problem is most likely a serial data bus failure.
- If the security lamp fails to turn off after the initial four seconds a problem exists with the instrumentation
Sounds like yours is the last case. That indicates there is a DTC present. I checked the manual for my 06 Ultra as well and it says the same thing - you have a current DTC. The good news is that you can get to the DTC yourself without having to use the dealer's Digital Technician software and that will give you some indication of what is going on.
To get to the codes, press and hold in the odometer reset button while turning on the ignition (make sure the run switch is on). Then release the reset switch. That will initiate a "WOW" test and you should see the gages do a full sweep and all the indicator lights should illuminate. You should see "diag" on the odometer display. Press and release the odometer switch again and you should see PSSPT on the display. and the first P should be flashing. Press and hold the odometer reset switch for 5 secs to display any DTCs for the ECM/ICM. When back at the PSSPT display press and release to get the "S" flashing and repeat the above routing.
I think I've seen all the DTC codes posted around here somewhere as a sticky. I think it's in the electrical section.
Sooo, it's likely not your security system causing your problem bot some other failure.
Happy troubleshooting!
P.S. Buy a set of service manuals (both maintenance and electrical) for your bike. Next to the bike itself, it will be the best investment you've ever made.

RE: 07 Security System - Dead..
Thanks alot - I'll do this when I get home tonight.
There is nothing at all about this that I can find in the Owners Manual - or Service Manual. I guess I need the electrical manual as well. Probably just a short or something.
If it requires more than a little work I'm having it towed to the Stealer

RE: 07 Security System - Dead..
Wife's 02 V-Rod had the red key come on while getting at the gas station. Light would NOT go out.... finally pulled the fuse for security and everything started and ran after that.... We do not know the manual security code, but the FOB works, so will try and reset the manual code this week. Will the above code sequence work on a V-Rod as well?
Thanks...
Thanks...
