Lowry,
I had the SE slip ons and the stage 1 installed before I took delivery of mine. It has a nice rumble sound. The sound is behind you while under way which is a little deceiving if your used to drag pipes or short pipes of some kind. Overall I like it, especially on longer rides. Don't you love the way these things ride.

Since I'm not real swift with a computer, I finally got some help. Here are a couple of pics of my 05 Springer with apes.

Gary, nice pics! I really like the apes on your springer. That's the only thing I regret so far about the springer classic. I feel more limited to the types of bars I could install. Just don't think too many bars would look right. No real issue though. Anyway, glad to see you got your pics up. Looking good

THE APES LOOK GREAT!!! I think I need to put them on my bike ... I'm around 6'5 and have to get my knees outta the way in a tight turn. Plus I have to hunch over a little just to cruise around town. I'm pretty sure this'll fix that.

Now all I have to do is convince the wife that I need the apes, braided cables, and V&H pipes with the Stage I kit and a remap.

Wadda we lookin' at here ... around 2K ???

Any advice on how to pull this off would be much appeciated.
Thanks in advance -

Gary gotta getcha those blinker relocation brackets, they are cheap, although I didnt install mine, it looks pretty simple. You will love the results. I also got the clear lenses, looks sharp, although I need to take some fresh pics. I only suggest this because our bikes look so similar, Love the black springer, makes me want to take today off and just tinker with it :)

Before my bike left the dealership, I had them install the SE2"s, stage 1 and remap and it was added into my purchase price, not sure how much it was all together. The apes were put on later after I found out that the stock bars didn't agree with my shoulders and neck. I don't know if I would recommend this to everybody, but I just did it without asking the wife. She has her money and I have my money and we don't tell each other how to spend our money. I just do a little at a time and pay as I go instead of trying to do it all at once. Works for me.

I was also wondering about something. I am only 6' and the apes come just under my shoulder height. Since you are taller, do you think that you might need a little taller ape? Just a thought.

No other bike, rather it be an FX or FL looks like a springer, and they ride like what they are, like no other.

My wife has a 05 Deluxe that she added about $10k in parts b4 delivery. Trying for nostalgic look and included the stock Springer Classic exhaust crossover headers with SE slip ons. HUGE disappointment with the SE slip ons. They are barely louder then the stock exhaust. She just sold a 91 Heritage she bought new in 90 which she put 45,000 miles on. It had a White Brother 2 in 1 LoBro exhaust. Good sounding exhaust.

On our first ride, she pulled up and told me she was having trouble hearing the exhaust to know when to shift (granted - she was hyper nervous about proper break in RPM). I'm on an 05 Road King Custom with SE slip ons which sound good (will probably change out to Hookers or V&H for a bit more noise). Her bike is so quiet, I challenged the Dealer about whether they really put them on (since there's not an SE stamp for this model). After repeatedly ensuring me that they were SE's, I then checked around Dallas with several other dealers looking for same setup on showroom floor. Finally found one and they rolled it outside beside hers and they sounded the same ... LAME. I am blown away that HD even offers this setup (again, my Road King slip ons are much louder and would've been perfect for Cindy). If you like this tame of sound, you might as well keep the stock muffler on ... do not waste money on this slip on.

There aren't many choices for Softtails with the Crossover exhaust. I need to pose question on the Exhaust forum. But, thought I'd speak up on the Springer forum since this is about the only place this application would be found for a Softtail.

Any ideas from your search? I noticed someone mentioned Sampson Silver Bullets which we'll check out.

Hey all, new 05 springer classic owner here. (I don't get it until spring though so no pictures for a while.) Been checking out the info here and planning stage I. Love your bikes and can't wait to get mine.

I have been checking out slip-ons also and I know there are two different se slip-ons for the dual crossovers. One is street legal 65178-05 and the other is not 65980-97. I'm assuming the street legal ones are quiet and the others are pretty loud. Can anyone confirm this, I don't want the quiet ones either? I have also been considering the samson fishtails and the vance and hines fishtails.

cheers

Hey Jip, welcome to the springer club. I had the SE street legal slip-ons put on my springer classic. They are a notch louder then stock but not loud enough for me. I ended up swapping them out for Vance & Hines short shots. Check out my gallery on the left. I decided to do away with the cross-over so I had many more options available. I'm not sure about the difference between the two you listed but I would assume you are correct about the difference being the volume.

Congrats on the bike and make sure you post pics once you've taken delivery!

Jip Im running the one's strait out of the SE book for off road as they say, and I still think they are pretty quiet Im planning on trying a set of Samson slip-on's fish tail's from what I hear they have a bit more bark to them. I think youre realy going to like the Classic its a great bike. Good luck.

Thanks JB - I guess I'm going to have to get out there and hear some exhausts before I do anything.
I definitely want some bark but also don't want to piss the neighbours of too much.
Hey, I like the way those bags sit, are they the older heritage springer bags or is your bike lowered or both?

The bag's are for the 03 Heritage Springer. when I ordered the Classic I ordered the 03 Heritage bags at the same time its a straite bolt on and I think the look of the bags fit the style of the bike, and no I havn't lowered it

Hey I'm brand new to the forum, but I wanted to get a pic of mine on. I don't have many pics of her on this computer(I'm at work) but I found one of me and grandson. I'll maybe post more later. It's a 95th Anniverary Heritage Springer. I love it, but I've been seriously been kicking around the idea of some apes!

Matt how do they feel over there about the Classic's? I'm on another board were just about everybody is ok with the Classic but there are a few that have made it pretty clear they don't think it should be there even though it is a FLSTS.

There are some folks that are adamant about an FLSTS only being the years 1997 through 2003. I believe that if the first 4 ARE FLSTS then it is an FLSTS. But when you l
