I wish that I could help you out with the dilema that you are in, but, no offense, I don't really feel very comfy on a v-rod. I understand the comtemporary thing, but has she ever tried ridding any of the other models to see how they feel to her? I have found sometimes, that a person can't force their ideas on others, they have to make their own decision on what they want to ride. If she is happy with what she is ridding, maybe she will ride more and enjoy it more. Just my 2cts worth, good luck.

Thanks for the input SPRINGER ... She's never taken any other bike for a test ride - just the Sportster. It's kinda tough because she's so small (5'3). EVERYBODY she spoke with told her that the Sportster was too top-heavy for her and that she would be more comfortable/confident on a Dyna or a Fatboy .... Bought the Sportster anyway. She's got it in her head (and trust me on this .... She ain't gonna change her mind) that she's gettin' a V-Rod. So guess what??? I'm 99.9% sure that we're gettin' one!! Nothin' I say is gonna change this.

I just don't want her to get hurt. I've heard bad things.

Would it help her out if she took the v-rod for a test run? A little story. I heard a lot of bad things about jeeps. I bought a CJ5 26 years ago and I have never regretted it. I find it best to do my own thinking about things, but I also listen to others for imput than make my own decision. I know that you don't want her to get hurt, that's natural, but maybe the v-rod will surprise you and she will be Okay. The test ride might be just what the Dr. ordered. Just have her take it slow and easy and see what happens, good luck.

Iron.Cowboy, really like the look of the headlight. I have an '05 FLSTSC also, black pearl. I have been looking for a different head light to give mine a more authentic look also. How much modification did you have do to make it work? Springerfan

I just ordered some of V&H slip-on fishtails. They just hit the market in January. They are supposed to be here sometime this week. Once I get them installed I'll let you know about the sound and post some pics for ya to check out.

I'd love to hear what you think of the V&H fishtails when you get them. I've pretty much decided that's what I'm going to get for my bike, just need to save up a few bucks.

Yeah, I know the feeling. I've been riding on stock pipes for a year. I finally convinced the wife to let me get the fishtails, but it cost me a Valentine's Day and Birthday present....

Hey Sprung -
I'm in the process of doing the same thing. Been rolling around with embarassing (and dangerously quiet) stock pipes since July. I had a quote printed out today as a matter of fact for the V&H Fishtail slip-ons, the Stage I kit and the remap.

Let me know how it goes~

I HOPE THEY"RE LOUD ENOUGH !!

Later -

JB-

The seat and saddlebags on your '05 Springer are they off an '03 model? They appear to be the older style which I prefer. I am giving very serious thought to purchasing an '06 model like yours except in red/black color combo. Your input would be appreciated.

Nevermind, I went back and read ALL the posts and saw that I answered my own question. Good guess on the '03 bags and seat huh? Damn I'm good!

Nice photo. Very dramatic with the plane in the backround. Is that a B-52 Strat?

I love the photo of your Springer Classic with the lake in the backround so much I saved it to my desktop. Now I see it everytime I'm viewing windows desktop. Great photo. You should submit it to HD marketing. It would be the perfect photo to use for their website.

I was looking at that last night, V&H pipes. It seems V&H are the way to go, since i can do the install myself. The Fuel Module supposedly can be programed simply by putting in a code for the specific pipes. What kind of airfilter are you going to get when you change out the pipes?

Keep us informed on the V&H fishtails. I'm torn between them and the SE with sharkfins. The sharkfins remind me of a 47 knuck or a 48 pan.

I put the V&H fishtails on, easy job.....they sound awesome....i was affraid they might be too quiet, but nope..they sound very narly at idle and easy reving. at crusing speed, you have a sweet spot where they become nice and humm.

I did not put on the fuel pack, i dont see a need....nor did i change the air filter.

So you didn't get the bike FI remapped??? I thought that you had to do this - The remap/download/STAGE I is all I hear about every time I ask about exhaust changes.

Well, the pipes finally came in and I got them on. Piece of cake except for a stripped screw on the tip (came that way from V&H). They sound awesome. Not obnoxiously loud but plenty lound enough the neighbors know when I crank her up. Nice steady hum at cruising speed. I haven't decided whether or not to change the air filter or even rejet the carb. She's running pretty sweet as is. I've had no backfiring at all. No noticeable loss of torque at the low end either. And as far as the looks, I couldn't be happier. I'm gonna get some pics posted as soon as I get a chance.

Nope, i did nothing but change the pipe (slipons). I had been told the same by the "experts" (Friends and Family) that i needed to change the air filter and put in the fuelpack from V&H. When i bought the pipes at the parts guy ive been using he told me to just get the pipes and forget the fuelpack for now....he said ride it around, without the fuelpack and see what i think.....if i felt there is a problem, we could order it later. So far as SPRUNG stated i dont see any reason get the fuelpack (at the moment). Im sure ill do it, when the money is right or i get a bargin.

Maybe a group buy?

But for now im just lovin it the way it is. :)

The ride is in the shop, something with the valve stem leaking air from the sides near the base of the rim. I should get it back by tommorow.
