Default Mobil 1 or HD primary oil

I just bought a new 06 heritage! I plan on using Mobil 1 in the engine and tranny. I am undecided about the primary. Will the Mobil 1 cause more slippage in the clutch than the HP primary+? I would like to use the Mobil and not have to buy from big brother, however I want the best for my new baby. Please enlighten me....

I hate to say it, but go for the HD primary oil, works better than the synthetics in the primary, it's only a quart you have to buy I changed from the syn 3 that came in my bike to the HD primary oil in the primary and the clutch is smoother and hooks up better.

Are you using the gear lube (mobil) in the trans and not the engine oil(20/50)I hope.

Can't agree with that at all, nor will you be able to provide any proof that backs that claim up. Your bike was still being broken in when you made the switch, actually your bike's primary still isnt fully broken in with less than 2500 miles on it. Normally takes about 3-5000 miles for complete break-in for the primary drive on a typical low abuse street bike. HD "primary oil" is just basic 20-50 weight dino oil. We have found just the opposite effect, not on one bike, but hundreds of bikes that use a synthetic 20-50 motor oil or 75/90 weight synthetic gear oil provides better clutch action and reduced clutch plate wear over longer periods of time. And a carefully adjusted primary chain and clutch pack will have more effect on shifting and clutch engagement/disengagement than swapping out different recommended oils for the primary.

I switched from syn3 to HD primary oil and noticed the same thing. Clutch "seemed " to be more firm, smoother when it engages and the primary "seemed" quieter. My last change was at 38000 so I am pretty sure everything is broken in. I may try a Synthetic in the primary but it won't be Syn3.

I'm only using the HD primary in there because of the noticable difference in the clutch action and not for any other reason myself. It gives a better feel to the clutch

I have looked everywhere for this information. I have been unable to find out what the composition of this Primary Chaincase oil is, and what the weight of the oil is. It's not in my manual, it's not on the bottle...

How do you know this? (Not looking for problems, just a want to be informed. If there is a better way to care for my ride, I'll do it.) I have been under the impression that the Primary Chaincase Oil is closer to ATF than regular motor oil.

A viscosity test a few years back(when the Twin cam motor came onto the scene) has shown HD primary fluid to be almost 100% identical to their standard 20-50 motor oil. Ill bet the additives and overall composition are pretty much the same too. Same with HD's "Sport-trans" fluid. There was also a few online articles from an independant tester that had the same conclusions, one of them claimed HD sport trans fluid to be generic 20w-50 dino motor oil and nothing more, no special additives, nothing.

I've been using the HD primary oil all along...I've considered using the Mobile 1, but wasn't sure. It would keep me from ever going into the HD shop if I quit using it.
