Spirit54, if I have this right it is a non-stock 61, the insurance company is saying they will give him 22K, and he is thinking about buying it back? Why? Sentimental reasons? 1961 had no particular significance for the Motor Company. I have never seen a 61 go for that amount of greenbacks. A 48 yes, a 65 if it was pristine, and a few other limited production, low mileage types, but not a 61. You could even throw in a few off year models that were all tricked out I suppose, but I do not see what the hesitation is. Tell him to take the money and run. He can easily find something similar that will ring his bell for a whole lot less and give him a few schekels to fix it up the way he wants.

For 2K, I would buy it back no problem, especially if the Ins co just gave him 22K minus the 2K for the bike. What the heck, he is going to keep the bike until when? Forever? In the words of Don Henley; "Get Over It" I bought my son's car back from the Ins Co after total and the Dept Of revenue gave me a clean title. Whenever I sell it I will tell the buyer the history of the car, it's a Cavalier so it's not worth a lot of money anyway and my reputation is worth more than a few dollars I'd make by not disclosing the info. My point is, he might be able to get a "clean" title anyway and if he doesn't he is still way ahead with the money in his pocket.

If he can get 22 out of it and then buy it back for 2 he better jump on that deal with both feet. If the motor is still ok that alone is worth way more then 2 grand.

Take the money, buy the bike back, e-bay the parts, and go buy a new scooter, or a restored early bike, IMHO, of course....
