Default *** UPDATED 20 SEPT 07 *** Mechanics, need to know how many hours....

I need to know how many hours it should take a indy mech with over 12 years experience to remove, inspect and reinstall a Baker DD6, prime new lifters and adjust the pushrods and balance both wheels? The bike was assembled when I dropped it off but the tranny was stuck in gear. All of the above parts were still new and never ran as well.

I have been told before that they average 5-7 hours to do a HD to DD6 swap. I'm being told that this took him 38 hours. I'm being screwed and need to know how many hours the above work should take. Thanks.[/align]

is he trying to charge you for 38 hrs? damn, that is harsh. didn't he give you an estimate before he started? i think they are not allowed to go over 10% above without your consent.

I had asked 4 times for an estimate and he wouldn't provide one. He only told me their hourly rate. He is charging 38 hours for this work. That equals $3,400 in labor that screws my vacation plans and savings. Had I known this beforehand, I would of picked up my bike.

I have no idea what a flat rate might be, but sure sounds mighty high to me.... [&:]

You're getting screwed! It's a ten hour job to swap out an entire frame for Christ's sake. He either doesn't know his chit, or he is pissed because you did the work yourself and he is trying to screw you by saying you should've had him do it.

I would suggest getting two different estimates from other shops to get a ball park figure for the work, then go back to the shop that did your work with the estimates and try to work it out. I personally think he's way high, I could see 15 hours 20 tops but double that forget it. Good luck I've had the same thing happen to me before, it sucks especially if you trust the person.

Hmmm, thinking over this one - I guess the "work" is finished and you are probably screwed big time - but, there may be an out. With that much $$ involved, might be worth a small claims case if you could get a couple of time estimates from 2-3 other dealers and take the shop to court. Any lawyers out there? What do you say - this is robbery of the highest degree.

not a lawer but asuming its a done deal. Go to local court house file complaint (around $100) whitch you will get back. Civil court is not like anything you have seen. Its like the spanish inquisition! plaintiff wins 99%of the time.Usually no lawers are present(too small). bring you estamates(good idea). One thing use non-lawers do is forget to speak-up and yell "ILRELAVENT","HERESAY" but dont worry about that because the plaitiff wins anyway[&:]The sharriff droppin off the papers may be enough to scare him.

hope this helps! from someone that got bent over the bench before[:@]
