have the 360 baldwin/wilson brakes front and rear. the rear brake constantly overheats which causes brake fade then fail. i'm using new napa dot 5 fluid which has a dry boiling point of 550 degrees. on B/W's site they now show a secondary bleeding proceedure to remove air that can get held up at the seal grooves. tricky to do cause you have to extend the piston to the seal groove without breaking the seal and thus loosing fluid from around the piston. did this and they felt strong but within 10 miles of travel they faded and failed from heat. so hot that spit instantly evaporates. i'm gonna call the newly highered management team at B/W and hope to get a qualified answer. before that i hope to get some input here from the people in the know.
well, spoke to jeff baldwin today. he's recommending dot 5.1 not the dot 5 they advertise. will need to flush and wash all parts to swap fluid. he also states that they are modifying the piston. it is now a solid piece which has no where to dissipate the heat, they are making it hollowed to help with the heat, or so they say. he's sending one out but i wont have it for a week.
wonder where their testing was done? or if it's being done now by the general poublic! [:@]
We took the Dot 5 out and went with 4, I think that we they were testing they used something else, I will tell you this, they cleaned house the week before Sturgis, and are hiring people that know something about motorcycles. Havent had any problems with the old fluid. Course we had a couple of 6 pistons boiling 5, 5 sucks, period.

I feel like Idida little R&D for them... Wonder if that was part of my problem with my360 brakeas it seemed no one at 360
could actuallygive me a definate reason for why my brake failed...

shooter, why not the 5.1? its basically a higher rated 4
did you use a racing fluid to get higher boiling levels?
what brand?
sorry for all the questions but this is the rear and i have to pull the wheel each time i work the brake.
took everything apart. m/c, 360 brake, lines, brake switch.
cleaned all metal parts with brake clean, compressed air, soapy water, more air.
cleaned all rubber parts with soapy water and comp air.
soaked in a cheap dot 4 overnight then compressed air.
reinstalled and used motul 600 dot 4 with 360's secondary bleed proceedure. (remove pads and extend piston)
brake grabs real good. still gets smokin hot but the fluid holds.
just hope the rubber parts can handle the dot 4 without damage or swelling.
waiting on that new styled piston. also told him to send new pads, rotor and seals cause of the high heat.
will see if that new hollowed piston solves the high heat issue.
thanks for the help.
will post results
