Paco,
I like it ok but I think I am going to put the S&S one on in the spring.  I will buy the mount so I try others.
No need to apologize.  People will figure it out eventually.

Good to hear from you especially the good news about the 2 yr old Ultima.  I hear ya about too much money invested in the  ol' 90.  me too, if I had the money i got invested in the 90 Icould go out and buy a real nice CVO SE that would really run......  Oh well, I love the ol'bich I will just keep her.

Give me some more info on the tranny you are running....

Paco,
The 6 speed Trans is a Road Max, I think I said it was a Road Tech, I was wrong.
The gearing is perfect and it shifts and works GREAT! Probably have around 15,000 or more miles, It gets me and my sweetie from Northern Indiana to Tenn a couple times a year.  It ain't a Baker, but if I could afford a Baker I wouldn't be riding my ol Dresser.
I am thinking about putting in a 93 style transmission so I can get rid of my oil tank under the side cover, also may move the battery under the seat if i change the trans. Just Money!!

For 7500 I could buy 2 ultima's that you don't have to do anything to, or 1 ultima, a 6 speed tranny, and a rivera pro clutch, and pay someone to install it, and still have money left over. I just heard that S & S does not have the compression nor the cam that the ultima does. A friend has an ultima 96 and he raced another friend with a S &S 113 that was stock in a big dog, and literally blew him away.
No comparision.
For me, $ is always tight so I gotta go and the most bang for the buck. Thanks anyway.

Not trying to start any fights but an S&S in a higher grade motor than Ultima . Not to say that an Ultima can't give you great service . I leave it at that . You can't compare a crate motor of any kind to a factory production chopper (iron horse ,big dog , ect ) . They have to meet EPA requirment and choke the sh*t out of the horse power to do it .

Yep I spose that you're right. However, by the same token you can spend any amount of money on anything you want.
I guess that it's what you want, and can afford to pay and what will give you the results that you want.

If that is the price range your in I say go for it . I wouldn't let the whole square motor thing both you much on your decision much . After you go over an 88'' motor they are all strokers . I personal like the 113 better than the 107 becuase of the torque . Hell for not much more you can make it a 127 . If I was trying to buy a square motor from Ultima I would buy a 120 !

Hey td17056,

Looked up the tranny u were talking about, I think.  I didn't see where it showed the gear set or the tranny setup.  anyway the pricing was a little out of my range.   Post a pic of your 90.

js124, goat,

Hey all....
I thought I would  get by with the orginal clutch setup. Got everything adjusted, working perfectly.  Going to see my grandboy last Sunday, ran up behind three cars running about 60mph,  so I twisted the wick prudy HARD, took off like a bat out of hell, then about even with the second car the clutch grapped. Like to have sh*t myself !

Well santa, the fat basard came last night , with a pro clutch !!

My 1990 FLHS is worth more to me too! Have really enjoyed this thread and I would like to add my thanks to the Ultima owners.

My winter upgrade project is new rear shocks (Fournales) and Hyperpro progressive fork springs, plus True-Track Trackula handling kit. How do you Ultima owners find handling with all that extra performance, or do you just close your eyes!

hey grbrown,

I am preparing to change the stock clutch to a riveria pro clutch, ordering the Ultima 6 speed today and still researching all the different rear stabilizer getups out there.  I don't think i have any problems in the rear of the bike, but I don't do sweeping curves at 90 miles an hr either.  Really the only rear end problems I have is my ass draws up when I hit a curve running to fast.   I have thought real hard about some new progressive 440 series rear shocks.  So a set of new progressive shocks are $534.00 + stabo bushings $205.00 + true trac $400.00 = $1140.00.  Now i can go 80-95 miles an hr around a curve where the speed limit is 45 miles an hr.  Sounds sensible to me.

later...............

And HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY !!

Hi paco,

Happy New Year to you all too!

I have spent the first day of the new year getting my XB9R ready to swap for a new XB12R that is waiting for me at the local dealers! Start the year as you mean to carry on - it is warm enough outside for shirt sleeves.

The only stabilizer kits for evos that I have found are from True-Track. They also explain best, in my view, why they are a good idea, so I have also ordered a kit for my wife's Dyna. Going to be a busy time in the workshop for me!

Happy New Year to all.  20 degress and snowing again.  I will be lucky to ride by June at this rate.  Good luck Paco on the install of the clutch and I am real curious how the Ultima 6 speed works out for you.  Keep us posted.

Paco,
Sta-Bo make stabilzer bushings for Evo's, google them and check out their website. They make a great product, including some bushings that let you use the stronger late modem swing arm in the older bikes.

Hey Goat,

How's the weather ?  I was able to do couple hundred miles yesterday.  Looked like rain but hey, it was a balmy 59 degrees.  The 107 is running strong. As for the clutch, no I have not installed yet.  I was going to wait for the trans.  Then, I got to thinking, (not real smart), what if the Ultima trans main shaft splines are not the same as the Primo clutch splines. So, I did not order the trans yet.  From all the info I can find they should be the same, but I am not really sure.   But, As long as i get it ready before Feb 28,08 and have a little time to test ride it a few miles I should be OK.  I will just renew my roadside assistance policy !  Hey, Its 61 degrees today, I think I go and see if the ol'bit*h will crank..........  Have a good one.

later...............

update:
Ordered trans today(01-14-08).......should be here before end of the week...... need to borrow money !

Hey Goat and all,

Trans came last Saturday.  All looks good.  Have not been able to get started on the installation as of yet.  Since the weather here is going to be so shitty this weekend I am planning on trying to do the install then.  Mr. Brown started a thread about the torque arm and the flexing of non stock engine applications, I hope I have come to understand the "flexing " issue.  I have been looking for a cheap torque arm, then I realized that the trap door on the Ultima 6 speed is almost twice the thickness of a stock trans trap door, I don,t know if a "stock" Carlini Torque brace would work.   Carlini Design | Products | Torque Arm    One thing leads to another.

Any suggestions ?    I have some plate aluminum here so I may try to fab one after the trans install.  There may not be such a difference in the position of the trans and the motorafter the door is installed   And I probably won't hammer the Ol'girl much.

later....................................

Hey Paco,
How did the install of the tranny go and how does it go?  I have heard about the torque arm and what it does.  Was told I should get one before my old motor let go.  I am sure I need it now with this motor I have as it has more torque than the other one.

1yrb4hd,
I have been following your rebuild and I look forward to seeing the finished product.
I got about 800 miles on my new motor before winter hit and I did not get it on the dyno.  Sorry I can't be of any help.  Did you want to know what I paid for the motor?

Hey Goat,

Right in the middle of it.  It snowed here in Al saturday and I started tearing the bike down.  Got the old out and started putting the new in.  Ran into some small issues with the "special tools" needed for the install.  I had to improvise and had to build a main drive gear removal and installation tool which slowed down progress.  Got all put back, then the new shift drum wanted to be a pain in the ass. So when I got it in I stopped.  Will try and start again this after noon. I am at work because in Alabama when it snows the powers that be shut everything down and send everybody home except maint. guys.

Anyway here is a couple pictures, will finish soon ihope.
