Hey all,

Anyone on the forum running the Ultima El Bruto 107 engine on their bagger?  If so would you give any pros or con on the preformance, starting, oil blowby, dependablity or anything relavant to the engine.  I am really wanting to try one these engines but would like to get some feedback before  investing in the motor. I have posted this in the touring forum also, but thought it more relevant here because the bike I want to install this motor is a 90 model electraglide ultra.  I had a S&S 113 on a ridge bike, but the oil blowby was too much. Never did get it stopped.

Thanks in advance for any replies.............

I don't want to run 150 mph for long, but I want to get there as quick as possible..............

I have installed several 107" Ultima engines in baggers with great results. The 107 is the perfect touring engine & is easy starting without the compression releases, nice idle, runs cool, NO oil blowby, good mileage, does not require a monster clutch & is not as exhaust sensitive as the larger engines. There are no drawbacks to running the 107 & it will put a BIG smile on your face.

You will need a single fire coil, a HD clutch spring or extra plate clutch, Good slip on mufflers or 2 into 1 & an air filter adapter if you want to run a stock style air filter with the Mikuni 45. These engine are a great bang for the buck & very reliable. Good luck with your build & ride safe.

I'm thinking about selling a S&S 113 I have in my bagger now if you have any interest . I don't have any blow buy that you speak of .

GTC Cycles,

Thanks for the reply.  I am in the process of changing the motors out.  Just got the 80" off last night.  will try to install the 107" tonight.  When u say HD clutch, I assume you mean a heavy duty clutch spring plate?  Do you have any numbers of the diapham clutch spring you use or is it easier to just put another friction plate in?  I have ordered a single fire ignition, oil filter mount and an oil cooler, hopefully arriving by the end of the week. Again, thanks for any info.

js124,
thanks for the offer, but i have already recieved the 107".  it shouldn't be hard to sell though.

I was considering buying an Ulitima 113 for an incredible price but was
skeptical due to a few reviews I have seen. How long have these motors you
installed been in service on the bikes? My concern would be getting 10K
on the engine and having to pull it down. If that happens then no great price is worth it

GTC Cycles,

Have you had any issues with ignition timing on these motors.  On another forum i use I was cautioned about timing.

hotrodroadking wrote:
"Be extremely cautious with the breakin do it like midwest says, also be sure you setup the timing on the motor per the spec's of midwest.

They have had problems with some pistons to cyl clearance that was made worse by poor installation.

If any doubt get someone to help that knows how to setup the ignition. It should be right out of the box but you need to be sure." Storm4U,Where are you finding reviews for these or any motors.  I called myself searching everything and everywhere before i bought this motor. Asking on several forums about these motors.   Since buying I am hearing some negative feedback. Thanks

There has been problems with the timing issues on the ultima motors . I have seen the damage first had . It required replacement of the rear cyclinder and piston . I know Ultima ships them now with the timing set . I don't think you can even adjust it . I don't own one but have had a friend or two who have .

I just bought the Ultima 113 and the timing came set.  I did install the VOES and I have put on 500 miles with no issues.  This motor has a lot of power.

I'm not saying anything is wrong with it . Put it in and run it . You have a waranty to cover you . I think they took care of the problem now . Just don't try to tamper with the factory timing .

They have a warranty that covers parts
Doesn't cover labor and that can quickly
add up on a rebuild. And check how long
the warranty period is and the milage clause

Hey fellas,

Got everything done, straight by the book.  However, It wouldn't crank on the first try. Ran the battery down trying.  It popped and spit a couple times but never fired off.  Checked the timing, did not change anything, just looked where it was set.  Getting gas and the coil is firing the plugs, so I must have flooded it or i never got enough gas to fire it .  Charging the battery until I get home from work tomorrow and try it again.  Anyone with any suggestions ?

What about it Goat?   Did you have any problems getting your 113" to start on the first start up ?

Make sure your battery is fully charged ! They don't like to fire with a week battery . I would keep the charger on the battery or a set of jumper cables on it while trying to start it just to give a little extra . Make sure you put it through the proper heat cycles . Let me know how it turnes out .

I had a weak battery as well.  Left the charger on it and it fired right up.  Like I said before, I did install the VOES with it even though the book said you didn't need to.  Not sure if that makes a difference or not in starting but that is what I did.

The Goat,

I hooked up the VOES also.  Charger has been hooked up all night  and should have the battery hot when I get home from work.

Thanks

Hey all,

All is well.  My dumba$$ had the coil wires reversed so the back was fireing when the front was supposed to and the front when the back was suppose to. Changed the wires and she came to life putting a big smile on an old mans face.  Done a couple heat cycles so far . Should get a couple more tonight.  Thanks everyone for the support and help.

Hey Goat,
This sumbitcah runs like a raped ape, and I ain't got it over 3500 rpms yet!  I was thinking maybe I could/would have myself a sleeper, but when I light this bi**h off everybody at the stealership looked up.  One fellow thought it was a small block chevy with a race cam in it.  How can I say..." I Like IT" without being too obvious.  I will hit the 500 mile mark in a couple days, after that I will probably have to order a couple back tires!

My question to you is , do you have any idea what the oil pressure on you bike is ?  On this old dresser the guage only goes to 40 psi.  Running at 3000 rpm it is showing over that , warmed up and at idle it @ 35 psi.  I know the gage is old and gages aren't accurate for sh*t, but my 80" showed only 20 lbs cold and maybe 10 running down the road, hardly anything at idle. I have checked all the oil lines, none are crimpled and have got return.  Just wondering if I should be concerned.  Another question is the top end noise. This motor has a little more valve train noise than the 80" but I assume that is nomal.

Any insight will greatly appreciated.
later.............

Paco,
I have no idea what mine is putting out for oil pressure as I don't have a gauge.  What filter are you running?  Harley or something other?  I am sure there is somebody on this site that will have the answer for you.  As far as top end noise, mine is the same way and is not to worry about.  I asked the same question.  My old 96" was almost as noisy as this 113"
You are not kidding that the motor is a killer.  I have had mine up to 5500 and S. O. B......  Real nice.  Glad you like it Paco.

PaJoe:  New motor from Ultima.  Paco got a 107" and I got a 113".

PaJoe,

All I did was to take the 80" off, set this 107" in the frame, bolt it back up. I had to buy a oil cooler, a single fire ignition, two new plugs, a oil filter bracket and some oil line/hose.  I have also bought a se clutch spring, but have not installed it yet.

Let me know if i can help...

dog155,

Thats great !  I don't know what happen with my S&S113".  When it had the .520 cam I didn't notice the oil, but I put a .600 lift cam and all hell broke loose.  Motor run like hell, but when I would stop there would be oil everywhere. I put a canister to catch the oil under the frame as suggested on another forum, I called S&S. I did everything but take the engine apart and check to see if the rings might have lined up.  I sold the bike to a friend and it was still blowing oil when he hit a car a couple months ago. I almost bought the bike from the insurance company just to take the top end down, but they thought a lot more of it than I did.  I am not saying all of them blow oil, but there are a lot that do.  I use to stay on the S&S tech site trying to figure out what to do.  It might have just been that motor. and then again this 107 may start it later on.  I had 12000 miles on the S&S when I sold it.
later..........

Hey all,

Coming up on 1000 miles on the Ultima,  all seems well at this point.  Starts easy, idles good, runs like a bat out of hell, no oil blow by yet, no smoke.  I was concerned with the rideablity of the larger displacement motor, but as noted, several of you have been running larger motors than this one on baggers for years with no problems.  If nothing comes apart or flys off or explodes in the next year I will be a happy camper.

Again thanks for all the support.   Goat how ya doing ?  Your 113" doing what you wanted it to? If this 107 ran any faster or got there any quicker I would probably hurt myself !  Too much motor for an old man like myself !   I love it.....

Hey Paco,
Glad to hear you are enjoying that motor.  I am pretty much done riding as it has gotten cold here in Maine.  38 degrees today for a high temp.  Yahoooo  : (
I have gotten 700 miles on mine and it runs sweet.  Awesome power and very responsive in any gear at any rpm.

What exhaust is that you have on your bike?
