Default 74 or 88 sportster

I have a decision to make. I am looking at buring either a 74 Sportster 1000 or an 88 sportster 1200. Both bikes are in pretty good shape but deffently need work. Which is perfect since I wnat to buy a bike for rebuilding purposes.

There asking 3500.00 for the 74 and 3900.00 for the 88.

Anyone have any suggestions/opinions or whatever on what would be a better project bike.

Thanks

Personally I think the 1200 would be the right choice. Hell its 14years newer.

Which 1 is better?
Has either been rebuilt, if so what's been done?
Does any of this matter?

You tell us.

I'm in the midst of toying with a 1978 XL 1000, electric start only.
Everything is there plus some. It's a matter now, of making it my own.

Def 88.......the older the more problems...too much trouble...the Ironheads are just a pain...my buddy has one and it breaks incessantly....I love the EVO engine....nothing like the new Twin CAM engines of today but they are great,,,,,and who really wants a KICK start instead of electric? Both are going to be leakers....it is Harley.....go with the 1200....very reliable...I love mine...I have an 89 and have had it for 4 years now....took it over from my dad who was the 2nd owner
