Default Bars

Hows it going everybody,
I just bought a 99 1200C Sportster - I know, its not a "big dog" bike , but i don't have the money for the bigger bikes ; The night train for example..mmmm. Anyway, bought this bike from a guy who is going on 70 years old and he has only driven it about 6 times since he has owned it and he bought it new and i only spent 5000 on it and there is NOT one scratch or dent or any of that on it and he already put the forward control arm extentions on it so i was glad of that. What i need to know is, that i am buying some Drag bars for it and i need to know what kind would best suite that bike. Yea, i would like to lean a little foward and have my arms extended - that "chopper" look but not so much the leaning forward. I dont know - i mean i know what i want and i think i found it, but i just am worried that it wont be the right one. What would be the best looking drag bars on that bike and what all do i need to be able just to slap the bars on it and not have to worry about buying anything else (concerning the bars). Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

For starters, do you have a web link for the bars you are looking at? How tall are you? what is your sleeve length? Does the existing riser have any pull-back? All of this comes into play for a comfy fit. Also, not to discourage you but, you don't just "slap" a set of bars on the bike. There is wiring to deal with along with the clutch, throttle& brake cables/lines.

Hey bud, congrats on your purchase. If you bought a 1200C, then it should already have some 28" drags on it. You can go with some 32" drags without having to change any wires or cables, and this would drastically change the look of the bike. Also, with the "C" model, the riser should be straight, so depending on your height and reach, you should consider wether you want straight drag bars or pullbacks.

But i DO know i would like the straight drag bars like the ones in that picture. Thanks again for the help

I bought a set of fat risers which were 4-4.5 inches tall. Any bike shop will have a set and will tell you what you will need. Idid not change any wiring or brake lines on mine since it wasnt that much of a change.

Buy the set of drag bars that come stock on the Nightrain. They are cheap and a nice look on the Custom. I think I paid $28 for mine. Can you believe anything Harley is that cheap!!! Anyway, your bike is as much of a "big dog" bike as any softail. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Great bike, great engine, fast, and IMO a better looking engine than the big twins.

Nothing additional needed. In fact, you will have more slack in the lines than with the stock bars. I wish I had taken pictures of mine when I had it. Either way, go to your local HD dealer and tell them you need a set of the stock Nightrain bars. Most stock them and like I said, they cost about $30 or so. I don't remember exactly, but they were much cheaper than any other option. I remember when I went to pick my barsout, the guy there said come try out these bars on the nightrain to get a feel for what drag bars feel like. I said, can't I just get a set of these and use them? He looked puzzled and said noone had ever asked that. They looked em up, had em in stock and put em on no problems!
