Just went on my first mission yesterday (Friday) to welcome home a young man, Cpl Raymond Henniger from Deptford NJ, who lost both legs and 4 fingers on his left hand.  What an experiance to say the least.  All total there were about 125 bikers present along with Police presence to help escort him back home for the first time since his injuries.

To see the towns people standing along the road way as we road into town was awe inspiring.  Sure did put a lump in my throat.

Glad I was able to do a small part in bringing this Marine back home to his family.

Jack

I have yet to go on a welcome home or a funeral mission. My wife and I joined bout a month and a half ago. We did attend a 9-11 memorial ride in Dothan Alabama the other day and it put a lump in our throats. The Marines and the Army were both represented there along with many municipal resucue ,fire and police members. Even though I never personally served in the Military my father retired in the Army.
I still find it hard to swallow when I hear there are actually people who would have the audacity to protest at our service men and womens funeral.
Even though I hope I never have to attend a funeral If one happens within my range of ability it will be with great honor and respect that I attend and I am sure with big BIG lumps in the throat.
I am located right outside Ft. Rucker Alabama and grew up around the Military and I have never recieved such respect from individuals as I have from Military personnel. They are indeed America's finest representatives

Guarding our freedoms! God bless our Military

Thanks for attending the mission.  You'll meet the best riders in America standing in the flag line.

Yea, I have to say this had a happy ending to it.  Although, having lost both legs and 4 fingers, this young marine was in good spirits.  Not sure how I will handle the other side of the coin when it comes around.   Just hope it doesn't happen.

What is the gain for putting these people through a meatgrinder? What is the mission? Who is the enemy? Who do we hold responsible for the conduct of this war? Where is all the money going?
If we want to fight a war, let's fight a war. The war is not magnetic ribbons and motorcycle parades. The war is two legs and four fingers. The war is certain people getting rich while certain other people die.
We should not shoulder the burden of this war on a small group of our citizens who, for whatever reason, joined the military. If a war is important  enough to fight we should all give up our sons and daughters equally. We should not demand tax breaks while the people who do fight fight with minimal support and return to minimal veteran's services.
We should take the darn hill and keep it!
The problem is, the leaders of this country know the people of America are probably not willing to support the troops beyond the yellow ribbons and parades. To increase the capacity of our military to take and keep those hills would require the draft, and increasing and actually paying for our war expenditures.
Sorry for the rant, but Jesus... two legs and four fingers!

Sandy,

The name of this forum is support for the troops.  While I respect your right to your views and to voice them, perhaps a better place would be the political forum.

For the PGR member doing his first mission - thank you.  What I have found is that most of the families are in utter disbelief that strangers care enough to either welcome thier loved ones home or show respect by the flag line.

We all should show our support in any way we can. One way to show your support is to VOTE for who ever you think is best, regardless of political views on the war.  That is after all, a large part of what it's about - Freedom - If someone can sacrifice like this gentleman did, the least we can do is spend a little of our time in a flag line or a voting booth.

Hey Jack, just saw your post today while scanning through the forum.  I was on that ride too.  We picked Raymond up at the WRAMC and escorted his car out to the first stop at the Maryland House rest top, then joined in the long line of bikes over to the Delaware rest stop then on to his home town.  I didn't know they were planning a parade for him until we pulled off in the staging area just out of Deptford.  We caught rain all the way back to Stafford, VA that night, but it was worth the ride to honor Raymond.

Welcome to the PGR Jack, it restore my faith in the American people when I see the streets lined with patriots, Cub Scouts and businessmen/women holding the American flag during a mission.

First let me say THANK YOU!!grasman

Second scrane, I aint "jumping on you". I am going to say: I as a Soldier Deployed to IRAQ now. If something happens to me GOD forbid. Please Patriot Guard come and Show your support. If one Person steps forward to my family or near them in protest STOP THEM!!
I appreciate what the PGR does for the Soldiers! When I return I will do the same.

There are GREAT AMERICANS out there who do support us. Have you ever been to an Airport as troops pass through on the way too or from Combat? Those Great members of the USO are there SUPPORTING US! They have these giant hands and line us up and we march behind them while they clap for us while we walk to the plane. If you think this is not Heart felt, you are very wrong. I remember this clear as day and it has been a year. Thank you USO. I have been supported by members on this forum.  A Felow rider I have never met sent me Razor blades cause I could not get them here. Thank you Master Blaster!!! This means allott to me. However small it was it means allott to the Boots on ground Soldier.

I The Soldier am here because the President Said so. No questionsI have Met my enemy, you think they are not here. Join Put on a Uniform and roam the streets of Iraq. He will seek you out and try to KILL you. No introduction needed he will be the one trying to Kill you and your brothers in Uniform.

I SAY THANK YOU PATRIOT GUARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I will continue the mission,  you keep supporting the troops who come home in need.

My Rant is over.

To all of you, retired military and just plain patriotic Americans who take of your personal time to show your appreciation for the troops and their families sacrifice- THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I''m currently on my 22nd year of serving YOU. I don''t serve for a personal or political agenda. Like the majority of other servicemen and servicewoman, I do it because it''s my way to give back to the greatest country on the planet. Yeah, we''ve got politicians and lawyers, and jailhouse lawyers for that matter, who will always get the blame or point fingers when things aren''t going exactly as promised, but that''s the nature of warfare. It ain''t always linear! We also protect those who despise war and the very thought of any violence, and that''s the best thing about this country - you can think, believe and rant what you want and you still keep your head, so scrane can be safe in the idea "they" won''t be coming to his door in the middle of the night to take him away. No more soap box!

I am currently in Germany flying C-12 (KingAirs) and I was wondering if we have PGR here. I would love to take part in a ride for our guys and girls. Thanks again to everyone of you who keeps us in your thoughts and prayers! Your service is deeply appreciated by your servicemembers.

I''m kind of high-jacking this thread, but I just got back from Marine Sgt Mathew Mendoza''s funeral here in San Antonio. I think there were over 70 PGR there and it was my first mission. I was choked up more times than I could count. As we wound through the neighborhoods around the church on the way to the cemetery, people came out of their houses and put their hands over their hearts. I will definitely be doing more of these. It''s the least I can do...

Thanks Scott - I was very honored to do it. What really got me was not only the actual funeral and what that meant, but the way people reacted: the folks standing in the street, the bikers spending roughly 6 hours in near 100 degree heat to do this, the people who actually pulled over and stopped while the procession went by. It really showed that some people really DO care about others, even though they never knew them. Every time I ride to work, I see cager after cager that doesn''t give a sh^t about anything or anyone, and it really grates on me because it makes me think our world has gotten so selfish. This is a ramble, sorry, but had to get it off my chest. I was so moved by my first PGR experience I had to vent a little.

Glad you saw the good in people. \\; It''s a bummer that it takes a tragedy to bring it to light. \\; What moved me the most on my first Mission was the compassion displayed by the Solder''s family and how appreciative and consoling they were to the PGR.

Yeah, we got a lot of "thank you''s" which was nice but I was kind of taken aback because I didn''t feel like I was the one sacrificing - I felt like it was my duty. Never did anything in my military career because I wanted something out of it, I did it because it was what I was supposed to do, it was the mission. I would gladly give up a Saturday to help out. Hell, their son gave his life, what''s one Saturday to me?

Sure glad I saw your''s and others sig pix and checked out the PGR. Gives me some way to give back to those who gave all.

I joined the PGR after learning about it here. I''ll be doing my first mission on Friday and truthfully, it will be an absolute honor to be able to be there.
This country has given my family and I \\;all the opportunity to get to where we are, Taking a day to honor someone who has given everything for us and support their family is really a miniscule thing, it really doesn''t even begin to pay back what we owe these heroes.
