Default Handlebar question

Replacing my stock handlbars on my '05 EG Standard with Wild 1 Chubbies W0575. Just got the old ones off, and as I lay the two beside each other, I notice a little sticker that I didn't notice before.

On the new handlbars it says, "IMPORTANT: Must use a Full/One Piece Clamp to Secure Handlebars To Risers. Don't Use Separate Top Clamps, I.E On Road Kings You Must Replace The Two Stock Clamps With A Full Clamp"

WTF??? WHY? It had two clamps on the stupid stock, what's the big deal? The dumb azz warning even capatilized every word just like I put it in my above quote...

ANYONE?

Here's a pic of the differences in the bars for those that are interested...pretty substantial when you consider how much difference an inch makes...

The bars are going to allow for internal wiring as well, chrome (of course, sorry Skip), and they are a little thicker (Chubbier?)

Mac

Mac-

Hate to tell ya, but they won't work on your bike.......

OK- Just kidding. THe one piece housing gives less flex between the 2 mounting points. I think they will work fin, but it also exposes the fact that it has smaller tubing at the mounting crosspiece (No one I know woulever notice). I don't think it's a big issue. If they were mine- I'd put them on, but check with manuf. just to be sure!

IF they were HD part- then it definately would be to sell you another part for a Benjamin....
My .02 (Nice bars)

BRUCE

PS And oh- By the way- You owe me huge- I put Wild 1 Chubbies into google, and got man site directories!!!!

Not sure what you mean by

If you mean that it won't be cosmetically as nice...it's all under the fairing...who cares? Maybe that's why they specified RK and not the EG???

Mac,

I can see no reason for a one piece clamp rather than the two piece, but I don't think is is just for cosmetics. The Roadking clamp is also covered, so probably not just for looks. Like Bruce said, it might be to give less flex. You are going to have a bunch more leverage on the front end with the longer bars.

Regards,

Bill

Mac,

I was in Mesa, AZ visiting family this past week, and happened to stop by the local HD shop. I spoke to one of the service guys about changing my bars. I let him know right off, that I was from out of town and wouldn't be buying anything from them. That being said, I'm more likely to believe what follows. I asked him if he had installed any of the wild1's bars. He said he had, then cautioned me that I had to change to a one piece clamp to use those bars. This part I already knew, but like you, I didn't know why. He said the reason is that because the bars taper back down to 1" at the mounting point, this creates a bit of a weak spot and the one piece clamp provides extra rigidity to help keep the bars from flexing, or worst case scenario, from breaking where they taper down. Sounds reasonable to me.

Regards,
Rick

damn guys - even though this does't affect me directly at the moment, it's great info for down the road when I do change bars - like Mac said originally when he saw the warning, which is what I would have said:
[sm=WTFsgign.gif] ???
Thanks for the info.

HMMPPH.

Well, I got the whole bike back together, and I did it on two pieces vice one. HMMMPHH.

Not sure what to do now. I don't want to be unsafe...I kind the way I am right now. I guess I'll order the one piece and put it on at another time. It should be easier than doing what I just did, which with the internal wiring, soldering, and the rest turned out to be a bit longer than I expected!

HMMMPPPHHH.

Well, I guess I'm looking for that part now. Hope they make it in chrome!

Mac,

How do you like the bars? Do they put you in a better, more comfortable position? How about a picture?

Regards,

Bill
