I have an 08 FLHT and haven't figured out how to top it off without blowing back gas every where. Any ideas? I try pulling it out a ways and watch it closely but wham, three fill ups and 3 blowbacks. [:@]

 

Vent tube open? Your not having any running issues are you? It doesn't sound normal.

 

i carefully hold the nozzle at the opening. also dont open the gas handle all the way open. just ease the gas in.put the bike on the jiffy stand so it leans to the left and the tank opening is on the high side. walk around to the left side so you can easliy see in the tank as your filling

 

are you fueling at the same station each time?

 

I do fill it slowly from the left side. I pull the nozzle out as far as possible but still leave it justinside the hole in the tank and try to trickle gas in. I never had this problem before.
Yes, I think it is the same station or at least two out of three. I thought about trying another. It may be the pump is just to powerful.

 

I always stop with about an inch of room left in the tank. I also pump very slowly. Never had a problem with overflow.

 

remember, your cap lid and the fill hole is at the top of the tank,,, you really dont need to get the gas right to the very top, when you see the gas close,, thats good enuff,,, 6 gals lets not forget
besides, if you try to squeeze every last bit in,,, more than likeley if you park soon,,, it will poor out of the overflow onto the ground anyways...

 

I was told when I bought my RG not to top off the tank, said something about an overflow catch? I fill it up about 1/2 from the top.

 

Some pumps just don't allow you to control the flow, just comes out too fast and splashes. Carry a microfiber cloth for clean-up

 

On an '08 why are you concerned about every drop getting in there? You've got that new 6 gal tank!
