Have noticed a few new comments concerning a "whine" after installing the IDS. To set the record straight, up front, I'm am still one of the stout proponents of the IDS and stick by my pleasure with this "enhancement". Totally satisfied with what was accomplished with this unit.
However, last weekend I did notice a "whine" that seemed, to my less than perfect hearing, to be eminating from the rear wheel/IDS area. This only happened while traveling through curves in the highway at Interstate/4-lane speeds. IOW, while leaning through high speed turns. After some serious thought, I feel it could be a by-product of the 2-piece design of the IDS vs. the 1-piece standard sprocket. Or, could the bearing that has to be installed into the outer sprocket of the IDS be a "cheap" design/product and need updated to a quality Timken at next tire change?
Again, it could be a normal sound that is created by the two-piece sprocket/cush drive system along with the drop in spacer that might have less than perfect tolerances. If so, it's totally acceptable. BUT! If a quality Timken bearing would be an option, I would change it in a heartbeat.
Hope SH Bob, and other seasoned techs can offer some insight.
Thanks!

Ben, did you do the work yourself? I'd go over all bolts again with a torque wrench, also, make sure your wheel is centered and running true. Belt tension checked correctly with a belt tension gauge? IF you didn't do the work yourself, you may want to tear into it to see if everything was put together correctly.
Just suggestions, as I just put over 2,000 miles in 6 days on mine and it was quiet as a church mouse................almost too quiet for a Harley.[&:]

Wes07RG -- Get yourself the gauge. It's only like $20. Now that I've done used it several times, I think I could go without but...always good to be sure.
WVRDKING -- I'm getting it too. Like you say, only when leaning into curves, though I get it at lower speeds than you do. Not a big deal to me. Suspect road surface and tires more than IDS, but now you have me wondering. Did I hear it before IDS??? Hmmmm.......
If you are like me, once you start really listening to an area, you will hear all kinds of chit. I also had the noise from Dunlops and thought it would worsen once I threww Avon Venoms onboard but it actually almost went away. Just a question but what would being in a curve have to do with the IDS making a whine vs. riding upright?
Yes, I did the install myself. I'm one of those people that has a passion for doing it right or not doing it at all; and can assure you the install was carried out to perfection. I could never make a living at wrenching since I take perfection to extreme and spend way too much time making sure a job, such as this, is as good as it gets. Know my a$$ is riding on top of this thing, and sloppy work could prove catastrophic.
I'm always open to suggestions, and the earlier post just seemed to fuel my sudden concern of this "whine". It's very faint, and after reading most of everyone's replies, I wouldn't doubt if it's tire noise. My rear tire is very near replacement; and it could be that prior to the IDS, which quietened down all the inherent noises I was hearing, I just wasn't paying any attention to the this "new" noise.
Again, it's very faint and I honestly don't suspect the IDS but thought, as I stated earlier, it might just be a by-product of the IDS's design. I'll have new tires on in the next few weeks, and will see what transpires from there.
Thanks muchly for chiming in! I appreciate it!
