:)Well, this is a fun memory to relive...............NOT. On my 16th Bday, my dad tosses keys with a ribbon on them on the kitchen counter as I am getting ready for school............I freak out (happily) and run to the kitchen window.......in the drive way isbrand spankingnew baby blue car of some sort (didn't know what it was at the time) and I assume it is mine. I go to grab the set of keys....................Dad stops me and says no, those are for your mother......here's your set!!!! Which went toher OLD a$$ YELLOW 1977 DATSUN B210!!!!!..................it was 1985!!!!!!!
My Bday is Feb. 13 and my dad bought the car for mom for Valentines the next day but thought it would be funny to give it to her a day early for the "trick" on me...............................didn't laugh then, but being a parent now I can appreciate his sick joke.:):D
Best thing they did was tell me if I kept my grades up, no tickets or accidents and NOT ASK THEM for gas money for the next year.......they would get me a new car senior year. My silver with HOT PINK flames 1987 Ford Ranger Sport fully loaded wassmokin' when I got it!;)

My first was a '65 Corvair Monza 4 speed 110 hp 164 cid. I paid $350 for it with money earned shoveling snow, raking leaves, paper route...whatever I could do to earn a buck! I bought it in '75 when I was 15. The body was solid motor was weak. A couple years later I found a wrecked Corsa with a 140 HP 4 with 1 barrel carbs. I swapped the motor, dash and all the insignias and made my Monza into a Corsa! I had to ride a damn bicycle for a month or so while the car was torn apart! Drove that car for several years. Finally found a 180 hp turbocharged 66 Corsa and ran it for a while. Corvairs were great cars (heater sucked ass) SCREW YOU RALPH NADER!!!

'65 VW bus. Bought 3 of them for $200 & made 1 good one that I drove across the country a few times. Fianlly totaled it when a kid in a brand new Honda prelude pulled out in front of me while his Dad was teaching him to drive. I was going 60 & lived but crushed my left hand & had a concusion on the back of my head from a VW Rabbit muffler that flew up from the back seat & 1 on the front of my head from knocking the left windshield out.. If there had been anyone in the passenger seat, they'd had died for sure. It shattered the Hondas tranny all over it's engine. Made a ton of $$ off their insurance though.

Mine was a 1980 Toyota Corolla. The state titled it as a Toytota Crumrolla. I wish I would have made a copy of it, I laughed so hard because it appeared of course on my registration that way as well.
I had bought this car from a little old lady who's husband was a mechanic. Seriously! The gas gauge never worked and I did run out of gas a few times at the worse times of course. Bought it for $2200 in 1986 with the money from 3 summers worth of jobs while I was in high school and sold it in 1989 for $1500 - it was a great car, fun to drive through puddles of water, and even more fun driving it sideways in the winter. Fresh out of high school in 1969 my dad bought me my first car. '59 Rambler Ambassador wagon that he paid $50 for. This must have been a very nice car at one time, but was far from it when I got it. One of it's many problems was that the transmission wouldn't hold the car when you put it in park. The emergency brake didn't work either so we had to figure out how to keep it from coasting away when parked. I started taking a brick with me. I'd park facing down hill, open the door and drop the brick, then coast up till the brick was holding the rear wheel. When ready to leave, back up till I could open the door and pick up my brick. You do what you gotta do.
We were "financially challenged" in those days, and I drove my share of total junkers. Never left home without some soup cans and wire coat hangers. Repaired a broken tie rod end with a coat hanger once. Ah, those were the days.

I love it. My dad's company gave him the old worn out shop pickup to drive until they could get him a new one. I believe it was a 1/2 ton, '72 Ford F-100 with a 360. I know it had an automatic transmission. They used it for running around town picking up parts; that's why it had the auto. They usually bought 4 speeds and 3/4 tons. It was worn out when he got it. Had about 160,000 miles on it.
On a cold morning, you had to start it and let it idle for 20+ minutes before the transmission would engage. One chilly Monday morning, dad went out and started it at 5:00 a.m. We came out of the house 20 minutes later to go for breakfast before heading to work. Walked over to the driveway and Dad said, "Did you move the truck?" I said, "No." and then realized it wasn't there. Then he said, "Listen." We could here it idling, but couldn't see it. It had drifted down the driveway, missed the chinese elm and maple trees in the front yard, and was sitting in the middle of the 10' high bushes between the front yard and the ditch.

I'd park facing down hill, open the door and drop the brick, then coast up till the brick was holding the rear wheel. When ready to leave, back up till I could open the door and pick up my brick. You do what you gotta do.
That's so funny-hadn't heard that one. I'll have toremind PawPaw about it next time I see him. Did I ever mention that I think I love your dad more than I love you? ;) He's a cutie pie guy!

Was a 1965 Mustang GT coupe vinyl top(white) while the car herself was baby blue
Dual exhaust with trumpets, 2 tone pony bucket seat interior(baby blue and white), 4 speed automatic with long center console
first mod I did was replace the factory stereo with a fit in without modification kenwood tape player stereo, and I put a linear amp and 2 6by9 infinities in the rear dash..without messing with the sheet metal. I did put blue speaker grilling over the entire back dash..for a nice clean look.
After about 2 years I had a machinist friend who helped me build up the 289 small block.. had too anyhoo.. lead based gasoline was going out of business.. so I put in hardened seats, flattop pistons, comp cam, Mallory ignition, 3 angle valve job.. bored 4 over...push rods, new springs..etc.. too many things to list.. painted the engine too... put in a 9inch rear end as well and disk all around.. had put on some American racing mag wheels too
reason I could just modify it at will as its vin plates were once ripped out.. making restoring it to perfection never to happen.. so i modified it :)
about 8 years after that, we threw on a fiberglass hood with pins, and a fiberglass lower induction cowl.. painted her up in original colors and cleaned up the top vinyl to cherry
and threw a 302 in it.. and an aluminum 4 core radiator put in some manual gauges too
then i did the stupidest thing after 11 years with it... sold it to a buddy who said he'd sell it back to me when I had the money.. I was going to school and gas prices were an all time high so i sold the f'n thing.. he didn't sell it back to me.. minus one friend later too
Id have to scan in a picture or two to post.. as back then heh there was no such thing as digital cameras let alone cell phones :P

In 1978 I finished driver's ed and was given a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere (grocery getter version of the GTX)...blue 2-door 318 automatic...Gramps bought it new, Pops bought it from Gramps, then it was given to me...needed a little work (exhaust) which I paid for...drove it for six months or so then using money earned from my cook job at the restaurant I bought a 1965 SS Chevelle off my sister's boyfriend...I sold the Belvedere to a friend of mine who pretty much destroyed it...the last time I saw it (several years ago) it was half parted out sitting on top of another car at the salvage yard :(

1958 Chevy 4dr, red and white. Purchased as a high school graduation present from my parents (Class of '66)- well, actually they bought 50% of it ($100) and I bought the other 50% ($100).
SoI spend hours washing and waxing it as soon as I get it home, ready to go cruising, andmy Dad says "Do you have insurance?" I say no, he says "Then the car sits until you save up the $$ to get some". So,it took me a month, but Iwas finallyable to drive it. Great memories.

Summer of 1969. Talked my parents into letting me buy a '65 Chevy Malibu SS Convertible. Dark blue, white bucket seat interior. 325 horse 327. Still wonder why I'm still here. 0-60 in seven seconds, 60-120 in another seven seconds. Two speed auto. With the top down, five of us in the car, cruising at 120mph, hit the throttle and you could feel it take off. Crazy car for a 17 year old. My payments were $37 a month. Paid $699. 1961 Willys Jeep. Paid $100 for it. It would go about 53-55 miles per hour wide open. The passenger windshield wiper had a crank to move it (manual....). It was cold in the winter and wet when it rained. I drove it from Pennsylvania to Missouri. That was one long drive.
