Default 103 vs. 110

I will be soon be increasing my 08 96 motor to either a 103 or 110. The dealer says that in order to install the 110 the case will have to be bored while the 103 kit does not have to be. I'm talking about the street legal/warranty approved kits. Is this true, considering the fact that the only difference between the103 and the 108 are 1/8 inch in diameter? What are your opinions on these mods? Thanks in advance!

Harley Davidson found that the stock 88/96 cases needed the heavier main shaft bearings when using stroker flywheels with the increased big bore. Since you are contemplating the machine work to bore the cases for larger cylinders, have the cases also upgraded to the Timkins on the drive side. Go ahead with the 110 upgrade. Zippers can do both jobs for you. You may find that the expense of these modifications to your stock engine is almost the cost of one of S&S's big bore engines since it's easy to forget some of the reguired upgrades that must go along with what you intend to do....big engine = big bucks.

i would go with the 103 c.i. stage 2and get your heads and throttle body ported, i did that with my night train. I bought the kit off ebay for $600 and the dealer installed it and ported my heads and throttle body for$1093,and im makin the same if not more HP and TQ as most screamin eagle 110 c.i.

saved a little bit a money, and makin an impressive amount of power..... in my opionon the 110 c.i. is shear braggin rights, i would have loved to get one, but i am more then happy with my 103 c.i.

Stick with the 103, have the heads worked, and get a good tune. Save a chitload of money and have a more reliable motor. GET YOUR CRANK RUNOUT CHECKED WHEN THEY OPEN THE MOTOR UP!!!

ifyou are putting together a hd warrantyable kit i would stick with the 103. more bang for your buck. the 110's are only worthwhile after replacing cams and bumping compression up imo.

I agree with all that's been said...also would strongly recommend that if you go with the 103 kit with 255 cams that you insist they keep compression at 9.3 max...this is a new kit, not many of them have been run in the summer heat, and they come as-built about 9.8 compression...the 110 kit is a lot more expensive and will produce a good bit more power with the 7 extra cubic inches...also you get cvo style cylinder heads with that kit...these are a little better than your stock heads and also will make the 110 kit stronger than the 103 kit...same deal with the 110 kit compression, insist that they blueprint the motor and stay at 9.3 compression...sorry to go on so long...I'll say this and shut up...if you're willing to go with a non-warranty kit, you can get a more powerful, smoother and cooler running bike without the expense of the 110 kit
