Default Variable Speed Polisher/Sander.....which one?

I'm ready to tackle the task of keeping my Vivid Black finish showroom shiney, however, the Porter Cable Random Orbit Sander Model #7336SP is no longer available at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Anybody have a suggestion on a comparable Variable Speed Polisher to that of the Porter Cable model mentioned?

I'll take a blue high gloss foam pad and some 3M UltraFinaSE polish to the scoot periodically since I just had it heavily clearcoated from a painter. Looks real good and would like to keep it that way.

I have been using this to do mine, but I have a good air compressor to run it. It is smaller and I can run it with one hand and hold the parts with the other. I use the 3m rubbing compound and the grey pad, and follow up with the swirl glaze and egg pad. There is an awesome dark color polish I use (forget the name) afterwards to bring the shine to the fullest. I also have a dewalt vary speed I use for large areas...

But you can still find the one you like... here:

Thanks Benji for the reply

If you think of the polish you use for dark colors, let me know. The painter I use introduced me to 3M Imperial Hand Glaze Polish but I'm open to suggestions.

Alright, well I buffed my scoot today with some 3M Ultrafina SE and a blue pad. Unfreakinbelievable! No more worrying about scratches anymore. I'll do this at least twice per season as it is a delicate swirl eliminator. Start with medium pressure with the orbital polisher and back off after 3-4 passes. To me, there is something to using foam applicators to apply wax and polish vs. terry applicators. The foam seems to be way more gentle on the surface. I'm stoked and the bike's sheen is spectacular. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow.

Very easy to do and if you can chew gum and walk, you can do this as well without fear of ruining your paint.

Ultra, glad it worked for you... never, I meannever... rely on me to get answers to anything quickly... I am not a multitasker and as soon as I am distracted by one thing, I forget the previous thing. Sorry I forgot to look up the polish I used.

But here it is. It is a finish sealer and glaze that does wonders on dark colors...

MIdnight Special by Production Car Care Products. I dont even know if they exist now or not, but this last bottle I am using is great.

I think you got it Ultra I use a polisher I got from Sears. 7" I think? A grey foam pad, and 3m Fine cut. Looks better than new when I'm finished.

Thanks for the info Benji![sm=smiley20.gif]

I tried to take some pics but I have a Canon 20D and don't know how to use it.......lol....I'll keep trying as it is very hard to capture what I'm trying to convey on dark colors with this camera since I failed to learn its functions..

Still running, I know exactly what you mean now. When I look at my paint after a gentle polishing, it is VERY reflective and smooth under ALL lighting conditions. The 3M UltraFina SE is the shiznit.

My bike is Vivid Black too. I will take good care of itbut it wont stay perfect. I wash it only when needed, bugs, heavy dirt, etc.. I know to keep wash rags clean and when it needs a good hard cleaning and waxing (this winter) I'll do it by hand. I hope I wont ever need toto have my bike buffed. I think you really need to know what your doing, especially for black enamel paint. I have even heard you shouldn't buff black, but I don't knowif I believe that. I just got new bags for mine by the dealer. Someone buffed them and they looked terrible by my standards. They gave me a little static but finally ordered me a new pair and they are perfect. I'm not sure if their guy buffedthe bags I returnedbut I heard he was real good. I can look at this paint under bright sun or a 500 watt hallogen and not a mark. I don't know if that's the case with an amature (me) hitting it with a buffer.

Check out the link. Lots of good information. I just bought the Porter Cable 7424. Easy to use, forgiving and no more swirl marks.

You guys with the black bikes, are you inspecting under a 500w halogen? No lines what so ever?
