One for the experts here:
Took a recent trip, my home elevation is at 600 ft., my destination was in the mountains at about 1600 ft.
I noted a decrease in mileage, but the big thing was my idle temp ran up to 250 at times in traffic. In my home area, I havent seen it above 210 on days at near 100 degrees outside temps....the average on this trip was about 80 outside temp.
So, my question is does this sound normal? How do others cope with this? mapping adjustments?
Any replies are appreciated. i expected some change, but this was a lot more than I figured on.

The only downside to the PC-III is that you must forego the O2 sensor feedback. In this case it's not all that great a loss since in most places within the map you're probably at a lower AFR than the 14.1 limit of the sensors anyway. The MAP sensor should have done its thing suitably in that scenario to adjust fuel before the PC-III added the little bit it does (or takes away) after the fact.
1600 feet isn't all the much anyway. You might have to cook your pasta an extra 30 seconds or so. Try 6600 feet, where water boils much cooler.
In any event, you'd have been running richer rather than leaner, so the engine temps have nothing to do with AFR. It's probably more to do with less dense / less humidity air being less able to carry heat away from the metal.
Nothing wrong with a PC.
Glens pretty much nailed it. You shouldn't see much difference in mileage wtih 1000' elevation change. In general, however, mileage improves at elevation.

the richer the afr the cooler the engine should run my flstc was way rich when i bought it temp at most 175 to 180 in the summer & i live in texas took it to the shop got it to a respectable 13.5 afr temp was back to normal 210 to230

Well at least when I speak out of mine, what I say makes sense and is true. And it doesn't smell like it's coming from there! :-)
