Default Harley Motor, or other?

I am looking at the options, and I am wondering whether a 96" harley motor would suffice for a custom, or If I am better to just go outside the box and go after a different maker of a 110" to 114" motor. I already have a harley (1200 sportster), so I care less if people give me **** for not riding a harley, but what am i goign to find more cost effective and reliable?

Thansk in advance for your advice!

I would be seriously tempted by the S&S 124, and interested enough to think abou the X Wedge.

The XWedge won't fit into an EVO frame, unless you feel like fabricating some custom engine mounts too, still have to cut the tabs and reweld.

The X-wedge is also wider from frontto back . It might not clear an evo based frame down tubes . Me personally I would go S&S . There are cheaper motors out there . Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples . Some engine look like a good deal till you have to add carb, ignition , and charging system . Take your time and make a good educated choice . The thing I like about S&S is you can go any were (if on a trip) and find an S&S dealer .

Harley crate Evo engine. Best out of the box deal anywhere, IMHO.

I would have to agree here as well......they are excellent engines and priced about right. They come with a decent warranty and they have all the latest updates the EVO ever had.

Unfortunately, you do get the INA cam bearing and the stock cam. However, the EVO is fairly inexpensive to upgrade.

HD crate motor is a good deal . He was talking about a 110-114 so I figured he wanted more hp and torque . Just make sure when they price you the motor it is complete (carb, ignition) . West virginaHD usualy has a rep for being the cheapest on HD crate motors .

I'm not sure . Call HD and see . If I was buying a 96 it wouldn't be HD . They my not even sell the 96 motor to the public in crate form yet ? If you do call them let us know what they want for them .
