Default Expected Engine Life

I just purchased a 2002 Fatboy with 25,000 miles (mostly touring). The bike has been well cared for and seems to be in excellent shape. How many miles can I expect to get from the bike before facing major motor or drive train work?

Just continue with normal and regular maintenance.....stick to a schedule and don't leave anything out.

With 25,000 miles....I would advise inspecting the chain tensioners though.

Very subjective question....depends on how you ride it. Could last a lifetime or 2 more weeks.

I cannot tell you about real expected life on any particular motor. HOWEVER, I have three friends [really} that have 195,000, 162,000 and 180,000 on three machines. They have ALL used straight DINO juice.

I had 88K on a hot 95" setup that was ALWAYS "rode like I stole it"... No engine problems when I stroked it.

I bought a 91 Springer with 41,000 miles on the odometer. I met the original owner and he told me that it had 10,000 more then that, he had to change the speedo at 10,000 miles. I ended up changing the speedo about three more times and rode with out a working speedo for two years. I ride over 15,000 miles a year and adding the mileage of all the speedometers plus adding 10,000 miles for the two years I went without I had over 200,000 miles on the bike when the motor started to make a loud tick. I changed the oil when I thought of it and used what ever I could afford at the time. Everything from Castro 20w-50 to Mobil 1 15w-50 and even some motorcycle oil sometimes. I put a RevTec motor in the bike and used RevTec oil with a new Speedo and did the break-in period changing the oil and filter as the directions that came with the motor. After it was broke in I switched to Amsoil and at about 50,000 miles the main crake bearing went out. Well another rebuild and break-in then back to Amsoil and its running great. Got about 5,000 miles on the rebuild.

Moral of the story, ride it and don't worry about it
