Got a super e on a 83 ironhead it coughs and spits like crazy at 2500 cant get past it in any gear.  I am thinking it the main jet but unfamiliar with S&S carbs is there a site or anywhere i can find info on S&S trouble shooting. Thanks for any help

Try S & S website, www.sscycle.com, they have lots of info on there. Do a search of the forums.

Try to reach at choke while sputtering and give her just a little. if it smooths out, go a little bigger on the intermediete jet.

check the jetting with s&s website. sometimes they get taken off big twins and put on xl's without re-jetting.also be sure you are at the recommended starting points with all your adjustments. you can shut the pumper right off while making adjustments..... then slowly increase the adjustments till it gets dialed in. there is a special tool to remove the main jet so you can do it with the carb on the engine and not bugger it up with a stubby srewdriver.

Someone probably has already commented on this, but be certain you don't have any intake leak before you start tuning that S&S.

have a look at this issue of THE HORSE BACKSTREET CHOPPERS

http://www.thehorsemag.com/back%20issues/number76.htm

it's dated March 2008. Near the back is a 4page tech article that is EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about troubleshooting and tuning the S&S Super E, written by Tom Johnson, who used to work for the company and has been a tech writer in the motorcycle press for about 15yrs. It is the best such article I have read, by a guy who REALLY knows. And yes, he speaks Ironhead....
