Default I have reached the height of cheapness-homemade axle nut caps

I wanted some axle nut caps to go with my recently powdercoated front forks, but I couln't find anybody that sold already black ones and I couldn't see spending the money for chrome ones just have them stripped and powdercoated. So while working at HD one day I took a set out of the package and measure the ID, OD and height. Armed with that info I went to Home Depot and picked up two metal pipe caps with the same measurements and a few set screws for a whopping $4.05. I then came home and ground the nubs and whatnot off the caps and sanded them smooth. Then I drilled and tapped a hole for the set screw, primed the caps and then painted with high gloss black engine paint because of its good adhesion qualities. Voila! The finished product looks great. One could also paint their caps color matched to their scoots!

That's terrific! If possible I'd much rather make something than buy it - those look great

I measured HD pn#44117-07 and came up with the following measurements: ID= 1 1/8" OD= 1 3/4" and the overall height was 1 1/4" The pipe cap that I used I believe was a 1" pipe cap at Home Depot. It coincidentally had the exact measurements as I had measured. I ended up buying two packets of set screws because they are sold in pairs and I wanted the longer one for the nut side and the shorter one for the hollow axle side. The ones I got were 10-24 X 3/8" and 10-24 X 1/2"
