Thanks for all the info guys, i have learned alot from everybody. i actually was thinking about purchasing the HD garage door opener kit until i got some ideas from this site. what i did was solder wires to opener then conect them to a momentary contact toggle switch and installed the switch to an existing hole in the frame works like a charm and looks good thanks again.

yes you can change the speedo & tach but it takes some modifictions to the speedo housing & back side of guage face i did mine my self

Thanks Raxus. I love that sig pic man. She's frickin' hypnotic....getting sleepy....very sleepy....

I had a big time bone-head accident the other night, so I had to pull my fairing yesterday to do some minor repairs. Below are a couple more little things I did tonight while it was off.

Pics #1 & 2     Here's my version of the Garage Door Opener mod. Had a spare Craftsman opener that I painted black. Purchased the HD Odometer Reset Button #67854-98 $9.95 and the rubber boot #67880-94 $2.95 & some male/female shielded connectors. I cut the wires on the momentary switch in half and soldered the ends of two to the terms in the opener. Then crimped the male/female connectors on all four ends. This gave me the opener with wires coming out of a hole going to the switch with QD's in the middle. Cut down some of the material under the glove box lid and drilled a hole in the front of it. Mounted it all up with the screw on boot, and some HD velcro underneath. It works great and is easily removeable for batery change or throwing into another vehicle.

The scratches on the door are from and old cell phone mount I had there for my MP3 player. Next time I find $40 in the couch cushions, I'll proly replace it and redo the opener and B&S emblem.

Pic #3   Wanted to see what the red lighted guages look like. The lights in all the small guages just pop in. The Speedo and Tach are sealed units. I don't know if it's possible to change them. I'll see how this looks on my next night ride. So far, I kinda like it.

Also threw some poly-fill quilt batting inside the fairing, to back pack the Hog Wired speakers for a little better sound.

Next will probably come the Tune Trapper and an Hogtunes fairing amp.

I have some of that Profinish protective film coming in the mail. I'll probably do some detailed pics and a detailed write up of that install.

Side note...Then, after I got it all buttoned up, two of the windshield grommets were damaged in the accident and broke off while I was reinstalling the shorty shield. The last thing I had to do. I'm hoping I don't have to remove the fairing again to replace, but I have a funny feeling I will have to.

Anyone know what these little rubber nuts cost? Or a part number?

I carefully pulled the reflectors of my bag latches, cleaned off the doulbe stick tape, sanded down the back side to remove the form marks and lightly painted them gloss black. I then reapplied them to the opposite side (since they are mirror image,) black out with double stick tape. Reflectors gone and it looks much better. Cost ZERO!

My mod is close but what I did was remove the old ones (carefully), scuffed them with a grey scuff pad, then painted them with black paint (very lightly). This way they are blacked out but still reflect the light when needed.

It's self adjusting.  Just change the fluid when due.

I just put dual billet ants on mine. Looks great. I had to make my own bracket for the right side. Go to harley buy a mount & cable. Go to Autozone order a splitter for the ant.

Here's my version of an economy Garage Door Opener on an Ultra. Can be adapted any dry area you can fit the opener circuit board. I removed the circuit board from the case and soldered in a HD Odometer Reset Switch. Foam taped the circuit board underneath the console. Drilled a hole for the switch through the plastic portion of the console opposite the CB Intercom socket. Almost looks like it was designed that way especially since the Odometer Reset Switch matches the one on the fairing. You could do the same thing through the fairing and mount the transmitter inside the fairing. The batteries typically last more than a year or so. With that battery life you do not have to access it very often to change the battery.

Anyone else been Fed up with removing the saddle bag to check the air in the rear shocks? Well I was so while out in the barn yesterday sitting there and looking at 1 ½” of rain coming down I decided to address this issue… Found a 3” piece of a chrome bracket and drilled a 3/8 hole in one end to slide onto the mounting stud for the removalable backrest mounting point and in the other end I drilled another hole to relocate the air valve to the bracket.
Now all I need to do is pop the lid on the bag, attach my air pump and presto… No future paint chips to worry about, or cuss words needed to perform such a simple task made difficult by overpaid engineers. And the best part! Didn’t cost me a dime!

It makes life a little easier and now I don’t have to worry about putting a chip in the bags in the process of removing them.
I did the Stebil air horn install where the horn in hidden inside the cowbell covering of the original horn cause its Stealth looking and surprises many, especially the cagers.
I also didn’t like the way the rear of my windshield bags looked from the front of my ride, between the windshield and the bags because you could never get in there and clean. I also noticed that a friends 3 pouch system seem to pull away from the shield on the ends either from weight in the pouches or from the sun, so I installed a Memphis Shade with the graduating tint which is an almost a perfect match with the windshield pouch’s contour and between the shield and pouches I put Velcro to help hold the bags against the shield. So far so good after 1 year…
I originally wanted to put the shock air valve under the battery facing forward but I didn’t want to drill a hole and there didn’t seem to be a lot of space in there anyway. Rerouting air lins and having to install longer ones turned me against that idea.
Hence I chose the mounting above because I keep my pump in the left bag and I have to pop the top to get top the pump anyways. Hey guys easy mod, well worth the effort and no chance to damage the bags.

On my 06 the valve is just below the top edge of the bag when opened and with my fat fingers I can't get the pump line screwed onto the valve... No room unless you maybe have a 90 degree head on the end of the pump...

Normally, a search would pull it right up. It has been discussed many times. Tye this (until the search feature comes back online). Go to google. Type "ipod mount site:hdforums" ... See if that pulls up something. You can even try ipod mount on EG site:hdforums... should pull up something...

Those of you doing the Radio shack Siren alarm install, I have pics of the after installation so all can see where the plug is located on an 08 UC.  I imagine all the 08 touring bikes are the same, dont know about 07s or earlier though.

This is a pic of the left side, under the left cover and shows the Red and Black wires that hook up the siren.  The White arrow points to the plug, you can see the lid of the Fuse Box.  To get to it you have to take off the left Saddlebag, then the left cover.

Can you tell me the reason you have to do this install?

In Europe the bikes come standard with immobilizer and alarm system from HD, why would I need to change from the stock system?

I dont know about the European version of the Harley alarm, but in the US the alarm just flashes the lights.  That is wonderful if you are where you can see your scoot, but doesnt do much if someone isnt looking to see soomeone messing with your bike.  This adds a 120dB Siren to get more attention.

With the garage door closed my wife can hear it in the house from in the kitchen, probably 30' to 35' from the garage through a solid wall.  Plus it costs $7 or so as compared to the Harley Siren which is $80 or so.

Just eliminated the plate bar on my 06 Ultra.....and now I can't decide on where to locate my plate???    I know I should've planned this ahead of time, but I didn't think this would be a tough decision....the only real option I like is a set up with a bracket coming off the rear fender tip light with the plate above it....but damn!   $160. for that set-up!!  I"m sure many of you have run across this same problem.....with so many DIY's here, I figure someone has got an idea I could use.............Thanks Guys!

Yes...I have duals
