Default 100,000 mile Sportster

I'm doing this post to record the various services that happened on my way to 100K.

A couple of years after the stealership I bought my Sporty from changed hands they decided to change the cost of service from $45 to $65. A big jump for somebody who bought a Sportster because it is affordable. My last two services have been done at: http://thegreasemonkey.org/default.aspx
We are currently in the process of the 100K service. A clip was on the drain plug to the trasnsmission, very disturbing. Tools are on order and once I get my posts from 2002 to today I will post the details of doing a 100k mile service.

First Service. I think this was 1000 miles.

11105 O-RING $0.20
63805-80A OIL FILTER, BLACK $6.95
99817SPD 3 QT 20W50 OIL $9.75
They always charge for 3 qts tho a Sportster does not take the full 3 qts.
I have never run synthetic.
99896-88D SPORT TRANS FLUID $5.25
Not synthetic, ever.

Saddlebag warranty issue.
The snaps on the front of the saddlebags break. After replacing the left bag I gave up using the snaps.

5K mile service (4001 miles)

63796-77A OIL FILTER, CHROME $9.25
The chrome filter helps brighten the front end, IMHO.
99817SPD3 QT 20W50 OIL $3.25/EA
99896-88D SPORT TRANS FLUID $5.25
INSP NH MC INSPECTION $10

13308 miles

69625-99 HEADLIGHT BEZEL $28.95
This is to keep the headlight light out of the windshield at night.
58172-96 PIN, WINDSHIELD MOUNT$5.39
67621-94 WINDSHIELD BUSHING $4.75
94066-90TFLAT WASHER 5/16$0.45
The three above items vibrated off. They are one of the brackets for the detachable windshield mounting. I don't run the windshield unless temps 50*F and below or rain. This is the only time windshield bracketry broke.
04565-91B TIRE, D401, 130-90B1 $134.24
DF DISPOSAL FEE$2.50
Tires are less expensive than for a Honda Shadow ACE.

At this service the speedo sensor was cleaned. The speedo had been misreading. This occurs intermittently to this day. Could be water getting past the sensor o-ring? It is just one of those things that happens to some of us.

I don't want to be rude, but what is the point of this thread? Yes you have taxes paid, but the rest is the cost of owning a Harley. I also fully believe in full synth fluids..
