Old Harleys
One time at about 1975 I was riding through East Texas, in the Pinney Woods. Little towns and curvy country roads, lots of trees. Country stores at intersections now and then. I had a 1974 Superglide then, Black, drag pipes. Thing only held about 3 gals of gas,you had to watch it. Stopped at one of these stores. Had a front awning over the front and inside they sold everything. Salted bacon by the pound, a chunk at a time. Coffee beans before it was cool. Had Coke and Big Red cold drink machines outside. The kind you open the top put in adime and slide the bottles around. Nobody in those days messed with outside stuff. Had red river gravel, which made it bothersome for a motorcycle a little bit. Slick. Had about a million bottle caps mixed in with all the gravel, been there a long, longtime. Old man sitting in a chair or maybe a bench wittling, just like in the movies. Had Oskosh open flap overalls on, old straw hat. Me and my bike came pounding up like we owned the world, gonna awe these old folks. Hell I was about 28, this old man was about 75-80. I got off and started putting gas in. Got finished and went to get a gold drink, old man sitting next to the cold drink machine. I said Hi. He said, "That a Harley Davidson isn't it". I said, "Yessire sure is, almost new, evergetany up this way". He said, "No we don't too much but, Ole John here road all over France on one of those during the Great War. Hell that bike looks a lot like my old bike, cept mine was Greenand muddy".
Thats one of the reasons I love Harleys. Cannot be bought. I've remembered that all these years and now I'm getting up there now.
