Hell, call the ACLu and ask them to sue for you for 100 Million.  Hell, if some azzwad can drop hot coffee into their lap and get big bucks then you ought to get some for being discriminated against because you're a rider.  Take the money, buy that franchise and fire that dickweed

Was there a sign stating "cars only", or anything like that?  If not I bet you do have a lawsuit.  In fact I'm gonna try that tomorrow!!

What's next, do you think they should allow kids on electric scooters to go through the drive thru?  Just kidding!  I do see the liability point though.  I don't think they could reasonably have a policy that says, "We will serve baggers that pull up if they don't order a drink."  If they serve one motorcyclist, they would have to serve them all.  Next thing you know, they have some squid on a custom hardtail chopper ordering 5 happy meals and 4 large sodas and trying to hang the bags from his bars and balance the drinks on his tank.  When he crashes, the next thing you know, there's a huge lawsuit saying that Wendy's should have known better than to serve him all of that at the drive thru.

I do think they should have told you immediately that they don't serve bikes at the window though.  Depending on how you were dressed, they may have been afraid to say anything and just hoped you would leave.

If you can come up with an Email address for Wendy's and the owner of that franchise and post it here, MAYBE a few hundred Emails boycotting Wendy's and the disatisfaction with that franchisee in particular MIGHT get their attention. If you are a NC peace officer, I'd show up in full uniform and have a little "talk" with that manager about "mending his ways". I'm sure that getting in his billfold WILL get his attention FAST.

Just MY opinion,

Me a 2 freinds were on our way to Mrtyle beach for bike week when the staiter went out of my buddys softtail. By the time we got the bike started found a motel and got settled it was real late and the only thing open in this little town was a taco bell drive through. We had to everything including beg to get them to serve us. I was starting to get cranky with no supper

Have already call Wendy's Customer Service Department.

They will "Call me back"

Having worked at Wendy's corporate - give them a call - you will get a bunch of free food! Poor service and it was the Manager's call - no one else!

There are bigger and worse things to get irked about. Frankly, I find it a pain in the ass to deal with drive up windows and toll booths on the bike. I prefer to just go in.

*shrugs*

Beautiful day in the Carolinas.  Rode bike to work then on to Wendy's at Lunch Time.

Pulled up to order and no one would respond over the outside.  HAd removed helmet and shut off bike to be able to hear the Clerks responsed, which never came.

Road up to pay window, set for about three (3) minutes and no one came to the window.

Pulled up to the Take Out Window, clerk says: "We don't serve motorcycles at the Drive Up Window.  If you want something you have to come inside"

Asked why, was told, same line of BS.  By this time, cars were starting to line up behind bike.  Asked for Manager, was told to come inside to talk with Manager.  Asked for Manager again.  Told to wait until he was ready to see me.  By this time again, cars are honking their horns.

Manager finally came to window, about five (5) minutes had elasped by this time.

Real smart $$$.

Basically said that they did not serve "Walk Up Customers at the Drive Up Window."

Has this happend to you?

Thanks

I wonder what would happen if an armless man went up to the counter and placed an order.  I mean the liability of using your teeth to pull the wallet out of your pocket and then using your left foot to hold it while you gnaw out a couple of bucks for a biggie fry.  The grease slick on the floor alone could be hazardous while standing there with your wallet in your mouth hopping one leg.  And if the person spilled something before you got there - look out.

Or
What if someone in a Pacer or Fiero drives up and they get refused because someone might run into the back of them causing an explosion at drive thru?

Seriously, this could go on and on.  It's not against the law to order food on your motorcycle and if it isn't posted where do you draw the line?

As for not wanting motorcycles at a drive through, it's not unreasonable for several reasons--possible/likely spilled drinks/shakes causing the rider to lose his footing/lose traction causing injury to bike/rider/passenger; obnoxiously loud pipes disturbing customers (since many windows are close to the indoor counter/registers (and who's going to police loud pipes--just ban all bikes); oil and other deposits from autos at the ordering/cashier/pick-up windows (much like toll booths) causing injury as above, just to mention a few.

so you think maybe that they could have posted this at the entrance to the drive through?  i agree, ignoring the guy is not the way to go.

if i have to go through a drive through, i don't order a drink, and i have a windshield bag that my wallet is kept in, so it doesn't take me any time to get my cash/credit card out (probably less time than the guy trying to fish it out of his back pocket, that he's sitting on!), then drop the bag in the saddlebag and flip it shut.  no time at all.  also, its easy enough to avoid that big grease spot in the middle of the lane, just keep your wheels in the same path as the cars left wheel..... how hard is that?

i do agree however, that he should have gone inside to talk with the manager, gotten his name, called corp.  hell, even call the local media....

Life too short to get all worked up over a Wendy's sandwich.  Save you anger and frustration for real problems like cancer or a death in the family.   Not only did you waste the 5 minutes but you let it fester to the point you had to complain to anyone that would listen (I'm guilty).

I would have taken the 30 seconds to parked the bike walk in and pick up my meal (instead of wasting 5 minute of my life that I'll never get back arguing with some fast food manager).  and moved on to bigger and better thing...............hell that me though, do what work best for you.

As you may have guessed I'm really not overly concerned about fast food employees taking a crap on me........more worried about cops with short fuses

well, I will not spend my money at Wendy's, if she wantes to spend her own money that is fine..... I told her that...
trust me, she is not missing out, her allowance is more than many working peoples take home ..... I pay her insurance, I bought her a new car, I pay her telephone bill, her cell phone bill, she doesn't pay for food or lodging, she is over 18, in college and probably spends 2,000.00 a month above what I spend on her having fun....

I had the same experience at Wendy's about 3 months ago, I had an order of about 45.00, they after I ordered and got to the window to pay said" you have to go inside to pay and get your food, I will not serve you here, I am clean cut riding a bike worth more than any car in the line behind me, I said if you don't want to sell it to me here, then you pay for it, I went to the drive thru for convenience, if they didn't have one, I would have gone somewhere else and from that point forward, I do..... I will not go there in any of my cars, my daughter loves Wendy's, she has not eaten there since.... I told her I will not pay for any food from their company and that if she eats there, she will need to start paying for all of her entertainment and her food not eaten at home from now on.... I feel bad for her but will not support that establishment..... I never went inside never paid for the food, never received the food and told them I would never be back.....screw them..............

Man you guys are serious about your food service.  Sacrifice you daughter's happiness to make zero impact on some large corporation's bottom dollar.   Who do you think is really feeling the impact of your actions????

Here in Morris IL if you refuse the biker you lose a 3rd of your buisness. Mc Ds/ Wendys/ BK/ and Toco bell no problem with drive up on a scooter. Bad enough being ignored by cagers now by a fast food flunky.
By the way isn't that what started the hollister Riot of 1947 the KFC refused to serve bikers.

I agree with CKinAZ, and RDM.  The dude did you a favor.  The food would have probably made you sick.  It really does suck.  Or, worse yet, you could have had the HOT coffee experience that old lady had a few years ago at McDonalds & burnt yourself, except since you were on your bike you would have been holding the coffee between your legs and then you would have an experience far worse than the old babe's experience.  You got off light.

You have got that right!  Same oil slicks, same wait to get your change out but they still expect you to stop and pay.

Have done the drive-up thing a few times on my bike and no issues.  Same thing with the bank, I have used the drive-up when the lobby was closed.

In my view, it's still a free country.  Regardless of the potential business consequences, if they want to refuse service to motorcycles in the drive up I say it's their business to run as they please.

I have gone through the Drive through on my bike at both Mcdonalds and Burger King with no problem.
I would just order a .99 double cheeseburger.
Now I do have to admit it did take me an extra 5 seconds to take my glove off to get the two bucks out of my pocket. I put the glove back on while the fella was making change (.93)
I did have to wait an extra minute because of my special order, "Double cheese burger plain. Just the meat, cheese and bun please." You have to be that specific or the kid will mess it up!!
I tucked the bag in my jacket and rode out.
I don't see the problem.
If there is a safety or policy concern... put up a sign. "I'm sorry. Due to safety concerns we don't serve mortorcycles at the Drive-thru window."  We can put up a picture of NCcop with a cicle and a line through it.
We won't like it... but its better than getting to the little speaker box and being ignored.
I'm not an ACLU fan most of the time... but I would give the a jingle to see if they will pull on Wendy's pig tails a little.

I must admit, I was surprised at the reponses even more than the situation.
I think they should serve motorcyclists and if they cannot handle the orders it is
the cyclist problem. I am in the retail/service business and to not display a reasonable reason not to serve
you is unacceptable. I would hope you would pursue this, just for the future.  As far as our fellow cycle buddies, I would hope
they would be more supportive, you never know when you will be discrimminated against for a silly reason.

I never tried to go thru the drive-thru on my bike. Its just easier for me to go inside and sit down.

Having said that you should go back thru when they say that they can't serve walk up customers. Light up the tire right there and say could I have done that if I walked up.

I did go thru backwards once at a Taco Bueno. They did not think it was as funny as we did. They called the cops. 13 of us crammed into my 1980 Olds station wagen. Those were the days.

Sorry, but I agree with the manager. Bikes don;t belong in drive-ups, especially when there is only 1 lane like at fast food joints. Yeah, speaking your order is quick enough, but get up to the pay window and you gotta lean over, dig out your money, dig the change back into a pocket. Then you gotta waddle up to the next window, stand-up to take your order, find a place to put it, secure it, sit back down, adjust, then ride off. JMHO sorry
Hell, I've been behind people in cars who did exactly what you described.

Myself? I don't care for going through drive-thrus on a bike too much because there is always a BIG oil stain where you stop to pay and pick up your food.

Dude you're a riot...now the customers are too slow??????
Everyone knows you're going to be waiting and waiting and waiting for that "fast" food no matter what you drive up in.  A bike adds no time at all.

My vote is because the customer might fall over at the window and sue or something.  Man who knows?

I don't do drive-thrus on my bikes for reasons stated above.....Hell, I hardly do them when I am in my truck.

BUT I can understand your gripe....it's hard enuff for us to convince cagers we are entitled to both halves of the lane in traffic.

I'm thinking that manager needs a lesson in respect because if he treats bikers that way at his drive up, he certainly don't cut them no slack when he's wrapped in tin.

Nah, he means "slip n fall" liability.......you know, like the kind where you park then stoll in and bust yer butt on their wet floor and sue them(hey that's an idea! Maybe 50 bikers need to park then walk in and end up in a dogpile inside their door and sue the chit out of them!)

Think about it....If they get any more afraid of liability, they will toss us our burgers from accross the street and no one will be even allowed on their property.

This old world has became SO dangerous, hasn't it? Yep, NORMAL people today must think us bikers are totally nutz to be running around without side airbags......God knows how they would react if they discovered I ain't never used a condom on their daughter or wife either!
