I'm unsubscribing from this thread! I can't take it anymore! I can't believe how many of you support Wendy's position against motorcycles. Some of you seem to miss the whole point of this thread. It's about discrimination against motorcycles/bikers! I could care less if he got his hamburger or not. It's the principle. If you think it is their business and they can do whatever they want, what about if they refuse to serve black people, or Mexicans, or Irish??? Is that OK too? If you are so worried about the oil slick down the middle or pissing off the cagers behind you, or where you're going to put your stupid drink (yes, some of us actually have cup holders) why do you even bother riding a bike? Jeeez! Unbelievable!

I have come to almost loathe the word "discrimination". Good grief, we have more than enough specially protected government sponsored victim groups without clamoring to create another one for us to join. This same discussion usually happens about the time of MB Bike Week when certain motels won't allow bikes.
How 'bout we set an example by not moaning and wailing that our hamburer eatin' rights have been violated, and just go somewhere else. The world is full of jerks, and when you run into one (fast food manager), just treat it like what it is rather than some kind of full blown constitutional issue.
We have more than enough slobbering, complaining, hyphenated Americans, and trying to remedy a situation by creating yet another one isn't the answer. Two wrongs don't make a right, but three rights do make a left.

I can't believe some of you people. A bunch of bad ass bikers wanting to play the victim card. Don't we have enough of that crap already? As long as it ain't discriminating on race, religion, sex, etc, they can damn well make any rule they want.

Sheesh. I think I'll sell my bike. I'm having second thoughts about being a poser to you guys. Where's the Vespa dealer?

Wonder what the guys in the cars behind you were thinking while they wasted their lunch break at the Wendy's drive through.   This kinda attitude might be why we bikers get a bad name and can't get service at Wendys.

Wow, the power of the internet.

After following this thread for a while ( too long ) I am reminded of how a few months ago our city wanted to make it illegal to smoke in any restaurant.  Lots of talk on the radio about this and the point that stuck with me was that the city was trying to force something on the business owners.  It's their business and if they want to allow smoking, it's their business.  If you don't like it, go somewhere else.

Now I don't necessarily like a motorcyclist being refused service just because he rides but it is the right of the business to refuse service to whoever they choose, whether it be a small mom-n-pop eatery or a national chain.  We can follow their rules ( get off the bike and go inside ) or we can spend our money somewhere esle.

KFC refused to serve me, I asked why and they stated they don't serve MC at the drive up window, what did he think I did push the bike up there.  Anyway I just stopped going to that KFC. F 'em

Maybe the sidecar does it for me, but I've never had a problem at a drive through.  Don't eat while I ride, just pick of something for me and the wife to have.  Get it on my home from work.

Only problem I experienced around Columbus Ga, is that sometimes the sensor doesn't tell them I'm waiting.  So, I just pull around and order at the window.  I been through Wendy's, McD's, BK and Arby's and have never had a problem (knock on wood).

IMHO, if they are not going to serve me, then tell me from the get-go, not after I've ordered and pulled around.  I've fairly sure that they can hear the bike running and know what I'm on.

And on a road trip I kinda like to stop, get off, stretch my leg, yes, leg, and go inside to eat.

It is illegal to discriminate against the handicapped in the USA. Maybe they noticed. Would be interesting to know if Wendy's national policy makes exceptions for the handicapped.

Didn't think about the handicapped angle.  But I don't think they'd be able to notice, not at the place you order.  I guess if I ever got refused I could use my handicap as leverage.  Humm, maybe, being handicapped does have a plus.

Well, I was thinking of suing Swingline for that one time I accidentally stapled the end of my finger when I was three, but after I spilled my hot chocolate in my lap talking on my Mattel play phone and nearly toppled my tricycle at the drive-thru' lemonade stand my brother built, I figured the stapling incident was something I could put behind me. Ya know? Dark days, man... dark days.

Suing over a drive thru'... jeezuz what's next? No wonder the rest of the world laughs at dear ol' decadent America. Home of the lazy asses who think the world owes them a living. (sigh)

Nope, love the Harleys. I wouldn't have spent this much on one otherwise. I'm just not a koolaid drinking follower or a member of the "sheeple" brigade who buys butt jewelry. I'm a rider, an open-minded, educated motorcycle market place consumer and someone who has a clue.

Obnoxiously loud pipes and weekend bad asses who can't ride their way out of a wet paper bag are ass. I'll admit to that.

You don't know me. Don't try.

Have to disagree. It's a specious argument.

Second hand smoke is bad. Non-smokers shouldn't be subject to smokers' whims.

Non smokers don't infringe on smokers with their non-smoking activity, whereas smokers *do* infringe on non-smokers with their smoking activity.

It is, in fact, the smokers who should need to go elsewhere, even if that 'somewhere else' is another room designated as the smoking section.

For the record, I sit in smoking or non-smoking, depending on where I can get seated most easily. My son, however, is *seriously* allergic to smoke, and when we're all out together, I have to pick and choose carefully. I live *very* close to Delaware which has gone to no smoking in public buildings at all. It's actually quite pleasant and the backlash was brief, peaceful and quiet. It's a non issue here now.

[EDIT]  Please ignore the rest of this post as it was not responsive to the question which was "has this ever happened to you?"  Answer:  No.  I haven't been denied service at a Wendy's drive thru; and, "no" I have never had people blowing their horns at me because I wanted an answer for the refusal of service from the manager.  [END EDIT]

Ignore the rest:  I was sympathetic 'til you delayed others because you wouldn't move until the manager repeated what you had already been told by the kid--if you wanted a conversation with the manager, park and go inside--that was just being rude to the other customers--if that's their interaction with a motorcyclist/biker for the day they won't have much good to say about us--hopefully they will realize an individual was just being stubborn.

As for not wanting motorcycles at a drive through, it's not unreasonable for several reasons--possible/likely spilled drinks/shakes causing the rider to lose his footing/lose traction causing injury to bike/rider/passenger; obnoxiously loud pipes disturbing customers (since many windows are close to the indoor counter/registers (and who's going to police loud pipes--just ban all bikes); oil and other deposits from autos at the ordering/cashier/pick-up windows (much like toll booths) causing injury as above, just to mention a few.

I use the drive-up window at the SunTrust bank without problems with my bike.  And I don't doubt you could have safely gone through Wendy's drive thru--but I can understand a policy that doesn't want bikes at a fast food drive-thru--and if I encountered one I probably would just comply or go elsewhere.

+1

never tried a wendys I dont care for ther food... but McD's / jack in the box / taco casa will serve me thats all I've tried.

Its a MAJOR liability to the restaurant.  Jeez, I can see some 17 yr old kid trying to hand a law abiding biker his change, while he's balancing his scoot, putting a drink in the holder, checking to make sure they didnt f#ck up his order, and some pissed off teenager mad at his GF or some drunken dip$hit a$$clown comes around the (almost blind corner at a lot of locations b/c of hedges or walls) just a bit too fast and shows you how to do back flips onto the hood of of a buick...

you'll be getting letters in the mail from every ambulance chasing skank lawyer in town....

Bottom line is, any business owner/manager reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason, regarless of what any of you think, do, or say. You stand there and lip off to them, they can call the cops and bust you for trespassing. Their business is private property and they can make and enforce their rules. Sorry, but that's the harsh reality. Now, go build a fu(king bridge.....and get over it.

Been going thru drive-thrus for years...never had a problem.  Now on my bagger, I can order what ever I want, including a drink ( have a holder on the bars)...when I rode low riders I didn't order drinks but I would just fold a little of the top of the bag over the clutch side grip and away I'd go....never had any issues.....

I think if I ordered and pulled to the window and they refused to serve me, I'd drive off...next day I'd order more, refuse me I'd drive of again, next day order more......someone is going to tire of this.....
