Some of the GA/FL members are getting together the weekend of June 13 through June 15, 2008 to ride the Dragon and stay in Robbinsville, NC at either the Iron Horse Lodge or the Kickstand Lodge.  Will be taking in other roads and scenery no doubt while there.  Anyone who wants to come along is welcome.  So who's in?  Need a head count.  Check out the accomodation options and vote. Thanks.

Good job!  Thanks.

Coming from Palm Coast Florida, want to ride along with anyone coming up from the south.  Plan to leave Thursday before weekend, and taking the following Monday off too.  2 days up, 2 days back.

Wife following behind in the beer bus.  Open seats for others if that helps anyone out.

I hear you Johnny but may be able to negotiate that a bit once I have a head count.  We'll go with whichever location most prefer.  Like I said, I like the idea of having a bathroom/shower in the cabin and at the Kickstand, there are not any in the cabins and all have to use the community bath/shower house.  I'm sure I'll survive either way, so ya'll vote and whichever place gets the most votes is what we'll do.

Michelle and I are in. Poorboy's beer bus is becoming legendary here in FL. I think Murph will have to pass the "Grand Pooba" helmet to GAGirl.

I am coming to this one way or the other and got a vote in for the private flush toilet place. I spent enough time in the Marines shitting in a saddle trench. I plan all my vacations and get aways now around the notions of taking a nice comfortable dump.

KSL does have toilets, they just aren't in any of the cabins.

I've gotten myself confused looking at the cabin info at Ironhorse.  Looks like (for June) they prefer weekly rentals for all their cabins.  Maybe if we have a good enough turnout/sign-up the owners will accomodate 2-night room rentals.  We need to ask this question for sure.

Getting a "bedroom" in a larger cabin is fine, or a private cabin-room is cool too.  Sleeping on the ground isn't exciting for me anymore.

I guess once we decide on the "place", we can then figure out who's camping and who wants a room for the weekend.

Hmmmm, I didn't get that but noticed that they have full cabin rentals; semi private cabin rentals; cabin room rentals; bunkhouse bunks for rent and even tents for rent.  I have put a call into them for clarification and even though they are closed for the season, said that someone would get back to me within 24hrs.  I'll let you know what I find out.

I plan on being there.  Not sure about accomadations yet, I'll be based in Franklin NC during my 2 week stay but will meet up for an onernighter wherever the group decides.  There is also the "Two Wheel Inn" in Robinsville for those that want/need to keep their rides inside but Robinsville is DRYville.  The Two Wheel Inn has bike garages attached to the rooms.

If I take your meaning correctly, then I'm sure that all of us who imbibe will be even more grateful for having PoorBoy, his lovely wife, and the infamous "Beer Wagon" along!

You figured that out correctly.   I learned years ago, that when traveling in the bible belt, you best come prepared.

I like the trip.  The only problem for me is I have inservice training the beginning of the week.  My Sgt. says we should be done by that Thursday, but not for sure this early.  If everything works out okay, my crew will be able to leave Friday morning.  I don't think we will make it in time to ride the Dragon with everyone on Saturday, but we will at least be there to join in on the after ride activities.........

Before we cast the June dates in stone, would the GA riders consider doing this in May instead of June?  I know the "kids out of school" vacation traffic, in the Smokies, picks up in June and several of us in FL are flexable.  I don't want to upset the apple cart with this, I can go with either one.  I'll leave it to you GA guys/gals to decide.

Dean and I cannot do May either and the 13, 14 and 15 is the only weekend we can do it in June.  April probably is still too chancy and cool weatherwise.

Okay, I heard back from Ironhorse Lodge and 6/13-15 is good for them as well.  They have 6 private cabin rooms available; 12 semi-private (shared BR); 2 bunkhouses (one sleeps 5 and the other 4).  So they could accomodate more of us indoors than the Kickstand Lodge does.  I think KSL has two cabins that sleep two to three people, 5 camping cabins, a bunkhouse that sleeps four or five on single beds and the rest would have to camp.

Ironhorse will not give us a pricebreak and Mo at KSL said she would think about it.
