not much love for the great Shula here.  numbers speak for themselves.
the late Walsh changed the game as we know it. the best at making greatness out of ordinary men.

Maybe it would be better to do top nfl coaches of the decade because so much changes over the years with scouting and player development and money and everything else. Like say top coaches from the 60's 70's 80's 90's and now.

Shula, had the no name defense.
Gibbs, has always been able to scrap and put something together.
All are from the old school.

Most wins-Shula (I think he is the best but I'm biased on this one, as a Dolphin fan)

Big Gamer-Belicheck (If they reach the playoffs I never count them out)
Grandfathers-Lombardi & Halas
Defensive Mind-Cower
I think they all had there specialties. Love or hate them all these guys have reached the pinnicle of the sport.

Football would not be the game it is now, had Brown not been involved.

2.) Walsh - changed the offensive game as we know it. The west coast offense has won or taken teams to the SB in at least half the SB's in the last 25 years... won 3 SB's
3.) Shula - winningest coach in the history of the NFL - Won 2 SB's and went to 6 SB's... nuff said
4.) Lombardi - arguably one of the most successful coaches ever plus won the first 2 SB's...not to mention several championships prior to the SB. Would win championships 5 out of 7 seasons..9-1 in the postseason, only loss coming in a championship game
5.) Madden - #1 in winning percentage in NFL Coach history, 36-6 against other HOF coaches, 1 SB ring, countless championship game losses to other teams like the 70's Steelers. Never had a losing season, and managed to win a 100 games in less then 10 full seasons..(consider that they werent playing 16 game seasons back then, only 12-14)
6.) Parcells - Took 2 different teams to the SB, 3 different teams to the conference championship game, and 4 different teams to a playoff game. Has 2 SB rings. Has been involved in building all 4 teams at the personnel level.
Honestly, any one of these 6 guys could be #1 all time.... we could make a case for any of them....because in their greatest days, they were dominating coaches. These guys didnt just win, they beat up on you.....I left Landry off the list simply because these other guys really outshine him. Sure, you could probably say Landry was a better coach then Madden, but both have super impressive resumes, but Landry coached the Cowboys, one of the premier teams in football period.....
I also left Belichump, Belicheat, Belicheck, whatever you want to call him, off the list as well. Sure, he has 3 SB's to his resume, but to be honest, he's not a great coach. He's a good coach. He's had the very good fortune to have some very talented and knowledgable coordinators. Most of all, his career thus far has resulted in 5 very good seasons, and the rest are average to substandard. Not to mention, several of their seasons are constantly being called into question because of bad officiating and now potential cheating.
This doesnt make him a bad coach, just doesnt make him one of the truly elite. He's definitely one of the best in today's game, but compared to the history of the game, he's definitely not in the top 5 for sure...
FYI - The winningest coach in the NFL for the last 10 years???? Tony Dungy, not Belicheck.....
