Default 1998 FXDWG fork woes

I won't go in to alot of details, but hopefully enough someone can help.

I had a friend install some Progressive springs in the forks of my 1998 FXDWG. I rode it home and I have to push the right side of the handle bar to hold it straight. It has always before this install tracked true with no pull. I checked the front end and found that the front tire is not sitting perpendicular to the floor when the bike is level. I measured from the underside of the bottom triple tree to the center of the axle on each side. The right side fork measured 1/8" longer than the left.

Is there any adjustment I can do to make the forks have equal length?

- one fork is longer than the other ?

- probably an installation/re-assembly fault.

Yeah, I'd say either installed wrong or the springs don't match. That's the problem with aftermarket stuff. Sometimes it is good, and sometimes it is crap.

Regardless, you need to get that thing pulled apart and fixed. Lemme think... To install the springs, all that should have been done is to pull the top caps, pull the springs out and put the new ones in. If I recall. I don't think you have to loosen the tripple trees or pull the tubes. If that's all that was done, then I'd say that the springs don't match. Pull them out and put the originals back in. 15 minute job.

Thanks Guys,

Dr Hess,
On this one the forks has to be removed from the triple trees to remove the springs.

When I get a chance I am going to take the pinch bolts loose and try to bump it up into the triple tree a little more. Looks like I have a little room to play with on that side.

I would say before you do anything, check your fork fluid level, that will cause a tracking issue.
