I need your expert knowledge

can you tell on my 47 generator is pos or neg on left or right ? you can see one is longer at the post

I am overcharging my battery and think when last we worked to find a different problem we may have them wrong

and if I switch then to find out, what will happen ? anything bad or is it ok to try?

If you have the standard 32E for your bike there should be a plate that says 'switch' and 'relay'. relay terminal is your positive side.

Just got looking at a couple of pics in the service manual....they show an end section view and from the pics the tall terminal goes to the relay terminal post.

Per manual...on 3 brush generators the standard charging rate is 4 amps with standard operating equipment (tail lamp, speedo lamp and headlight lighted). The regulating third brush is adjusted by loosening the 3 screws under the end of the genrator cover.

A separate current and voltage regulator attached means you have a two brush generator. If the battery is overcharging the manual suggests the problem may be that the regulator is failing to reduce output as it should due to a faulty regulator or generator.
