Dimn, HDWG, that's a really tough pic for your first try, spokes and all.

Great job.

A fairly easy way to start - find a background pic that you can crop to the 2/1 forum rules. It might be 800x400 orwhatever, but it will maintain its aspect ratio and reduce to 500x250.

Once you have that all set up, open the bike chop, select the bike layer and click Select> All.

Click Edit> Copy.

Select the bg pic and click Edit> Paste. There's your bike on the bg and you have 2 layers.

Be sure the bike layer is on top in the layers palette, which it should be right after a paste.

Select the bike layer.

Select Edit> Free Transform and grab the corners that appear on the box. Resize by dragging the corners. Watch the aspect ratio again. Don't let the bike get squashed or stretched- keep the shape, by eye.

Switch to the Move tool (arrow, upper right in Tools palette) and put the bike where you want it.

You could go to the 101 sticky to a thread something similar to "getcha HD logos here" and find a logo you like. Save the psd and repeat the copy/paste and transform and move thing. Be sure to click Edit> Copy Merged on psd's with layers like those logos have.

You could go to www.cooltext.com and build a nice font with your name. Be sure to choose .psd. When you have what you want, save it. Now Select> All but again choose Edit> Copy Merged to get all layers merged in the copy. Paste it and repeat the sizing and moving.

Presto. Sig.Save> As jpeg and resize (if needed.)

It's not the only way or even the best way, but it works and is an easier start than some ways.

Keep us posted - it's fun to see the progress.

@ JB. Do you do all of your resizin by eye? Just curious. If so, you're good at it. I usually go - control T(or edit/transform/scale) and reduce the width and height of my layers by percentage. That way the ratio stays true to the original. I just cant resize by eye withough lookin at that sucker and thinking 'somethin aint right'. Like I said though, if thats what you do you have a good eye for it.

I probably shouldn't keep admitting it because I don't want to seem disrespectful and I'm not, but I view sigs differently than I would a bigger pic for a web page or something. Sigs are so small that perfection isn't so necessary?

I value speed with sigs and yes, I size them by eye for that reason alone.

HDWG, if you're reading, you should follow Jucifers "tut" there and do that. I forget you haven't practiced much yet.

-snip- and where do you all get the background pics???
I haven't figured out yet which is best - google from the home page or click on the "images" link and go to google images to search. Sometimes I "think" I find higher quality from the home page???

I put "photo" or "picture" at the front of my search string as in "photo nekkid wemmen," "picture skulls," "picture pinup" "photo sunset," "picture sunset" or whatever.

Ittakes quite a bit of time, often.
