My twelve yearold son shoots a Smith and Wesson Mod. 41 .22 and a Ruger MKII .22 heavy bbl. For a revolver my favorite is my Smith and Wesson 686 w/ 6" bbl. Auto. is between my Springfield 1911 and Beretta 92F.

Maybe this would be a great place to get advice. I grew up hunting, and I'm very familiar with rifles and shotguns. I'm considering getting my concealed carry license, but I'm torn on what weapon to carry. I really like the Glock 23, but I recently saw a very similare model made by S&W. Same polymer handle, metal slide, etc. Does anyone have any information/opinions/experience with this S&W? I'm not sure of the model number. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are referring to the Sigma (Stigma). Have not heard good things about it. For the price you are better off getting a Glock or my preference is a Springfield XD. I own one and couldnt be happier with it. Put one of each in your hand and see which one feels the best. Shoot them if you can. That is the way to tell which gun is for you.

I keep things as simple as possible. If I were allowed to keep only one gun, it would be my 1960's vintage Mossberg .410 bolt action (one in the chamber, 2 in the mag). Dead on at 100 yards, not so hot at 101 yards. Great deer & grouse gun. Only hand gun I have is a Ruger 22-Six Hunter in stainless with mother-of-pearl handles. Legal to carry both on the bike in Montana if they're not concealed. Think I'll screw some antlers on the sissy bar to hold the .410.

Choosing a weapon is more of personal preference than anything. There are a lot of handguns out there that fit the needs of most people. My advise to you would be to go to a local gun range and rent some different handguns to shoot. The glock 23 is a great gun, however because of it's size is harder to conceal. If you are leaning towards glock then take a look at the 27. This is what I carry off duty. It's small, .40 cal and very easy to conceal. Remember, it is always to your advantage that nobody knows you are armed. So concealment is very important. I always recommend taking some sort of gun saftey course if you are not familiar with firing handguns. Becoming comfortable with your weapon is everything when being faced with a stressful situation. It's been proven many times that in stressful situations some people panic and cannot operate their firearm or handle it in an extremly dangerous manner. Practice drawing your weapon, clearing a misfire or double feed. There are a lot of choices and a lot of great handguns. Choose what's right for you and if you have friends with handguns shoot theirs also.

I have a Glock 27 for concealed carry, a Colt Officers .45 that I will try to conceal carry once I get a holster. I have a Ruger Blackhawk .357, a Taurus PT111 (think that's the model) for my wife's conceal. Just got a mess of other guns from a death in the family, got a bunch of small (really small) .22 revolvers, and a couple .38's I think. Got an HK also, supposed to be the first polymer frame handgun made. Can't remember the model, I'll check when I get home. Also have numerous shotguns and rifles.

Not really a lot of duty weapons. Sounds about right to me. For duty weapons, I have: Glock 22 Bushmaster .223 My choice of a Mossberg 500, Remington 870, or some sort of a Benelli, I don't even know the model, I just know how to shoot it.

I own a few long guns, and have recently been considering a handgun for both home defence and concealed carry. Currently: Pre 68 Winchester Model 94 'Ranger' .30-30 1952 Mosin-Nagant Carbine (7.62 X 54R) Remington Model 77 (.270) Stroger 12 ga. Side by Side Beretta SA 12 ga. Mossberg 500 12 ga. pump old remington 20 ga. SA I've been looking very closely at the Springfield XD subcompact line in .40 S&W for a side arm in certain situations.

Hey MiniMe, nice selection. Must be a rough neighborhood, South Bend, IN? My wife is from Goshen and keeps up with the local through the online paper. She can't believe how much it's changed. Yes I'm a gun owner too. Mostly old military Mausers, a Lugar, RockOla M1 carbine, a really sweet "sporterized" 7.7 mm Jap Mauser my dad built.

Goshen is about 15, 20 minutes from here. I was there today on a case. The older guns are some of the best. I am a newer technology type person when it comes to weapons but I like them all.

My two favorites are my S&W .44 Mag - 4" and my Belgian made Browning 16 ga. semi-auto. (pretty old gun.) Both of these were for my grand-dad... more valuable to me than any gun I've bought.
