I posted a similar question inside another helmet topic.
I'm in the market this season for a new lid. I use a full face now, mainly because of prescription glasses. Living in the northeast, I can tell you that riding here you will get "bugged" big time and get nailed with gravel more often than anyone would like.
What kind of helmet do you wear and what do you believe the advantages to it are? If you are usin' an open face, do you use it on long rides?
(if you don't wear a helmet, no problem, but I think we get the benefit you're after).

Well right off the bat I'll just get it out there,....
I wear a half German skid lid,..non dot....
because if I go down,.....I wanna go down hard,......and hopefully my brains'll get to see some daylight! If I don't hit my head,....I'm gonna remove my helmet and head-butt the asphalt several times until I at least have a severe concussion.[8D] thats the way I roll baby!!!.....

Sounds like a full-face is your only option.
The only helmet I have is full-face. Shoei FR-1000. Great for those colds days. When it's warm I usually go lidless.

Right now I wear open face 3/4. I wear riding glasses with it. i try to ride short trips throughout the winter. Helmet has a padded leather neck curtain (removable) which helps keep warm. For upcoming summer, I may switch to a 1/2 for short trips
I use a 3/4 with a flip-down face shield (In fact a Harley Jet II). It gives me a bit more protection then an open face from getting nailed in the face with bugs.
In the winter I put a scarf, neck warmer, or some other facial/neck cover to abate the cold air from chilling my neck and chin.
I've also been looking at the Shoei 3/4.

If you wear a shorty, get ready for the bee and wasp stings. My wife never felt too sorry for me until she took a yellow jacket sting to her face outside Taos last summer. She howled like a banshee and it left a mark for three days.

I like the 3/4 with shield. (HJC CL-33). They are a bit cooler (temperature wise) than a full face, yet the shield keeps the bugs from hitting your face.
