Default Engine upgrades? Whats best? I need more power out of my evo!

I have a softail custom with a newer evo 80 inch on it. I am wondering what the best way to get a little more power out of that engine is. I beleive they make a big bore kit that takes it to somwheres aroung an 89 inch. I am not affraid to spend some money but i also want to do it as economically as possible. I want the most bang for my buck. I already have a dynatech single fire, samson big gun exhaust, a scramin eagle intake, and an open k&n air filter but other than that it is bone stock. Please provide me with ideas and resources as this is my first bike and i am still learning. Also include the approx cost too!

Thanks in advance!

You can ask 10 guys and get 10 different answers. The way I look at it is with the dyno numbers, that takes thetestosterone out of the equation. I'd look at cam, carb and head work. You could probably go bigger but I can smoke both of thekids on their 88" stage 1 bikes all day long. You might be disappointed by going bigger.

My baggeris pumped up and pulls 86 hp, 94 Tq. It can pull the front wheel up in 3rd gear. I am changing the exhaust and will be taking it to the Boar House in the spring for a tune. Wood Performance has a site loaded with dyno runs. Take a look at the link - there are many 80" builds that will get you in the 90 and 100 range.

The guys at the Boar House, 763-785-4114, might be helpful - they're just south of I35W in Blaine.

Here is the best thing to do: pull out your motor, sell on ebay for $2k, buy a 113" for $3800, install it, have 125hp/125 ft-lbs torquefor $1800. There is nothing like this class of power. You will never regret it.

I put in the polised 127 ultima for 4k (kept the old motor) fits in the stock frame no fuss no muss easy swap. comes with carb ignition all complete even air cleanerjust need some longer engine mounting bolts, as the guy with the 113 says You won't regret it. Just need a stronger clutch AIM has a centrifical pressure plate that can go right on the stock clutch which will save you a bunch on a complete clutch. Baker makes an inner primary bearing as I cracked the stock one (not strong enough). Even the big engine runs like a stocker starts right up idles good but you should put on an oil cooler as it does run hotter. Jireh sells them and has deals from time to time. The best thing is this motor has the piston cooling jets, the larger .927 chevy wrist pins larger crank pin twin cam style heads (better cooling). All the components are matched and work great together, it's easy to spend 3 or 4 K on doing up your stock motor since usually on the first try you want more as it's never enough. 127 = !40/145 (cubic fun)

My experience has been going just a few cubic inches at a time is wasting money. You should wait and go out to the 120" area. You will only need to do it once, and you will be satisfied.I have wasted a lot of money, now have 2 RK beasts one with 124" the other with 155".One is fun the other has the capacity to scare the livin bejesus out of ya.

Yep, I'm in the same boat there hoshbosh. 99 evo, almost 30 K on er', probably will try and get at least another year maybe 2 out of er' and try and go for the bigger motor. Sux being at 70 HP, and that ain't stock either. Stock is about 47 to 52 I believe.
It just sux at having to lay out $4 or more thousand bux, but I guess that's cheaper than a new bike.

My first big stroker was a 93" shovel in a SuperGlide, loved it.Then a S&S 124" Evo in a RK, still love it.Neitherbike really scared me.Now have a R&R 155" TwinCam in a RK,it has the capacity to scare the livin Bejesus out me, and it has.Spent last season dailing it in,just have one more jet change to the Super D carb. The small motor pic is the155" during the assembly.Never figured out how to post bigpictures of the finished bike.Several people have offered to post them for me.Dog
