I bought my Fat Bob in January @ Cool Springs HD. I have been careful to following instructions when it comes to washing as it is the Den. Black color. However, this morning I noticed that the chrome plating was flaking off. It appears that it bubbled and tore open while riding and now the darn thing is coming off all over leaving the nickle under it exposed. The section invloved is on the left hand side. Has anyone else noticed this yet. My bike is only four months old and hasn't been riden that much (2K) and has had only about four washings.

I owned Harleys for many years and have never had one do something like this in such as short time. Whats up?

O BTW - I am new to the squadron - I love the bike. Forward Controls , so far I have only cahnged out the pipes to Reinhart's, which of course includes the air filter and timing module. I want my bike to stay pretty much the way it came w/ a few extras for when I go long distance. I have attached two pic's one of the bike and one of the headlight peeling - it is hard to capture on camera - but you can see it!

Jozy, good luck with the dealer, they should definitely take care of this for you.  I wash my bike every couple of weeks (have had it since September) and haven't seen anything like this.  Definitely some sort of manufacturing defect.

Got the mids off and the forwards on.  Changes the look of the bike a bit as well.  This is an awesome bike.  Those of you on the fence, the Fat Bob is the way to go.  Lots of heads turning here in Washington today.  It was nice sunny day... must have seen over 100 HDs on the streets today!  No one other Fab Bob around.  Haven't seen them in the dealers either.   They say they are backed up several months on FXDFs.

Anyway... as if we don't have enough already 'round here; here's some more Fat Bob pics!  What a bike!

sorry for the long delay, the seat is a sundowner. The parts guy said it was by far the most comfortable seat for the passenger. My wife liked the sound of that and end of story... Oh yeah its a good seat for the rider too, way better than stock!

Has anyone found (if your interested in it) a detachable screen for the FB's? I would like to find more of a spoiler that sits on the top of the tripple tree to maybe an inch or two over the top of the bars. I was doing a little experimenting today and it doesnt take much to get the air off my chest and helmet. The bike has remarkable low pressure on the rider at speeds below 70, but any higher than 70 and I really feel the push, on long rides I would like to have a choice... any ideas?

What are the options for air cleaners/filters for the FATBOB other than SE?
And the part # and where did you get it?

Thanks in advance.

I have a list of mods I want to do but really don’t know where to start. Money and time will set the priority of the mods. I called my parts guy a week ago with this list and still no reply. I want to put a single seat but I want to be able to add and remove a detachable passenger seat. I realize that I may have to do some fabrication for this. I also wanted to cut the fender back even more, brake in signal set up, side mount the license plate and add a wider tire. I know that will require fabrication. I want to make my bike louder! And lower it a bit in back if possible. WOW I know that a lot of wants, I still love my bike just the way it is but that’s just me trying to format it to my style. I am working on a photoshop photo of what I want the end result to look like.
I will keep the classic vivid black paint thou.

I know exactly what you mean Jess!

I have a list of things I still want to do as well.  Mostly it now involves a paint job and engine build out.  I know exactly what I want to do but like you, I would need approximately $6k to $8k to do it all so I will have to be patient and do it in chunks which is unfortunate since the best time to do an engine build is when you have the bike broken down and the tins out to be painted.  Just not going to be able to do it all at once.

You can if you save you put off doing one until you have the money to do them both.  That is kinda what I am doing with my 911....I have 4 projects I would like to do to it....but will only do half at a time. Interior in one chunk....then the exterior.

Welcome to all the new Squadron members...our family just keeps getting bigger and better.

A couple of things....

I feel for ya Jesscorp, I too, as soon as I bring something new home try to rebuild it from the ground up lol.

I made the decision with my new fatbob to;

#1 let it breath and make the noise it was supposed to.
#2 only buy add on parts that are really needed (i.e. the new seat for the wife and back rest)
#3 spending all the money I saved not reinventing the wheel, to make several long road trips through the upcoming summer. After all, isn't that what its all about anyway?

(wish me luck)

My second item was.. did anyone ever produce, order etc etc the fatbob shirts that were being prototyped a few pages back?

The shirts are kind of in a legalistic limbo out of respect for this forum and the desire to not see its owners get sued. I do believe there are other venues being pursued for a more correct way to go about it.

I'm a screen printer, and I've gone through this before with some other shirts for club members. You just can't use any Harley Davidson trademarked or copyrighted images or phrases. You can use original artwork, some of the shirt designs I saw here looked pretty good. To be safe you need to stay away from the use of the name "Harley Davidson", and according to some clients that had lawyers look into it, there is no problem using Model names in your design. I'll check into it a little more at work today and post back what I find out. If we can come up with a good and legal design, I can print the shirts and ship them from TN. I need a 24 total shirt order minimum to fire up our press, but I don't think that will be a problem. I can then ship seperately to you guys from TN- we use fed ex at our shop.

I would be in for two (long and short sleave model) if it works out.

Truthfully I would like an illegal shirt, so I can be more of an "outlaw biker" lol

New Vivid Black 08 Bob picked up last Saturday. Sold my 03 V-Star 1100. I babied that thing so I thought I might as well baby something that will hold it's value better 10 years later! Plus, I love the ride and handling.

That was the big issue with the shirts and that some had "HD" on them. I forgot who put the idea together (they took the thread down I believe, I haven't looked) and there were some very sharp designs for long and short sleeved shirts and possibly hoodies (I like hoodies). The basic idea was a outline of the Fat Bob with a white or black filled in body and words like "Fat Bobbin" or "Fat Bob" on the shirt itself. A tribal skull was on one and a few other designs, mainly chicks, on them somewhere...

All- Called the dealer in Cool Springs - no questions asked he said they would order a new headlight bucket and to bring it for replacement. Hopefully this was jsut a flawed part!
