Mods,

How about stickin' this post up top for awhile? It will be interesting to how many new owners there are and will be!

Owners only: What color is your Fat Bob?

Me, me, me ... and happy as "a magget in a ham" (German expression, don't ask ...). Now I just need them damn streets to dry off so I can hop on the Fatty for an hour or two and then get to work ... a man's gotta have his priorities straight!

A member of the Fat Bob Squadron.

I am still waiting for my Vivid black with SE A/C, SERT and slipons from Rush. The bike is sitting at the dealer but I am waiting for the winter to end before I bring it home. As far as I know the Fat Bob is selling a lot over here in Sweden. Rumors are saying that if you want one this year you can't wait with you order. There are only a limited number of Fat Bobs that will be delivered here.

Not sure how to go about getting something like that designed. But I think it would be cool.

Red Denim rider here. Made a few mods with the turn signals, the tank letter opener removal (thanks Tartan), some reflector removal and new grips. More to come. Looking for an idea to go with the red for the gear shift linkage. Let me know if you have ideas. Also, planning to take my first bike week trip to Daytona in early March. Any of you making the trip? How's about something like this for a "squadron logo"? This time on a long sleeve shirt for comparison ...

http://www.gesamtbild.com/_private_img/fat-bob-tee4.png

About getting something actually printed ... I know a guy in Dallas who does great quality work, not the cheesy "iron-on-look", but i also know that his work isn't all that cheap ... should I get in touch with him to scope out what a run of shirts might cost? First, we'd have to settle on a motive, though ... that'll be deciding factor (aside from number & type of shirt) in terms of cost.

Oh, before I forget ... about that "harley-davidson" down the sleeve ... I'm no lawyer, but I'd almost bet my hindquarters that doing something like this would constitute some kind of copyright violation ... anyone have reliable info on this topic?

krautrock
01-30-2008, 09:38 PM
Brainfart for the back of the shirt ... let's say we get about 25 guys together to get shirts printed, how's about if we print the names (real first or forum name, doesn't matter but should be the identical for all) and the location where they're from on the back ... sort of like one of them tour shirts you buy at a concert? Theoretically, we could also add the date when each of the blokes bought his bike ... for myself that'd look like so ...

"2007/11/18 – krautrock – richmond, va / usa"

That times 25 would make kind of a cool list and add a nice personal note, dontcha think?

Maybe there should be another poll thread started. I think a few designs could be voted on and the majority could win. That would keep costs lower. Maybe long and short sleeve versions in black and white to keep it simple. Threre might be restrictions on the use of the name Fat Bob as well.

If another thread was started this one could get back to what it was intended for.

My vote is for this one. I have the Willie G Skull theme going on my bike. I'll take one in long sleeve and short sleeve please, and in black like the above image. I also like the names on the back with the date you bought it. Kind of like the original Fat Bob Crew.

Glad to see more Candy red owners as well.

Just ask the guy who you are going to get to try to make these about copyright/trademark infringement, I'm sure he'll tell you right away if there is a legal issue or not. My thought is you are OK as long as you aren't openly advertising them, like an actual display ad somewhere. I think a post telling other forum members "Hey, I got 'em, $15/ea!" would be fine, but a banner ad on the site would be a no-no, as well as a magazine ad, etc.

Looking forward to it, but considering the time of year, if I have to wait this is a good time to do it. I was told the parts should be in by the end of Jan, so we should be getting close.

Anyone wanna kick in a patch design as well?

As far as the copyright stuff, yeah, we are infringin' but as long as we don't profit or advertise outside of this forum, should notbe a a problem.

But what kind of price did y'all pay for yours? I'm looking for a figure to not go over when I get to the stealer. They won't even price them because they get one at a time. I've seen one around town along wiht the mysterious Rocker... odd huh? But they've had a few.

JMERR01 - Paid $15,150 for mine. They are supposed to come with either forward or mid controls (At no extra cost). When they were first coming out HD was sending them to the deals in both options. Dealers were adding forwards and other extras and jacking up the price. One guy wanted $17,000+ for one he added forwards to and also led tail light. I got mine, the exact same color (Black Pearl with forwards for $15,150 right out the crate.

Check it out. I've joined the squadron!

Went with black instead of red afterall... I got some ideas for custom work so we'll see how it goes. Its actually "used" with 126 miles on it and some aftermarket stuff:

Harley wide grips,
Chrome radiator cover or something to that affec, battery covers.

All in all for the pricing: $14,900 after trade in. Not a bad deal

One hell of a ride. God I'm in love with this thing and I love the six gear... wow.. who knew?!!! This is the shi'te!!! The stock seat is pretty comfy and the position is great with the drag bars. I can drool a little more after the weather clears up and I can take it on some ride... gotta

I can drool a little more after the weather clears up and I can take it on some ride... gotta

I do believe that would bea 'voltage regulator' chrome cover.

Its in front, not on the side under the seat. Its at the bottom of the frame. I believe its a radiator cover but not entirely sure. But there is a voltage regulator chrome cover and battery box cover on as well. Its tasteful so far, the previous owner has some other pieces that he'd sell me for a reduced price but I haven't seen them.

Local dealer has a Fat Bob in what I can only assume is the dark blue pearl? I currently have an FXST with all kinds of upgrades (read: money poured into it) but I positively drool every time I see that bike on the floor, I want it bad....I cannot get it out of my mind. I've been very happy with my Standard and until I saw the Bob at the dealer I had absolutely no desire to own any other Harley at this time. I think they nailed it with this model, love the dual front headlights, the fatter tire on the front, the way it sits....

I'm pretty sure they'd be eager to do a deal based on the posts I've read (the state of the economy, the flat sales of motorcycles in general) but I suspect that they'd just kill me on the trade in for the same reasons.

I'm envious of youse guys with your Fat Bobs and want to be a squadron member! I just don't think it's in the cards and I'm enjoying not having a payment on the MC, I own mine outright. [8D]

db's point is. . . the Bob (like all Dynas, Sportsters, Tourers, Softails) does NOT have a radiator!

Oddly most of those that went to reviewers seemed to have mid, and most of those that I have seen on the road or in showroom have had forward!

Mine came with forward and it's a first for me. At first I didn't think I'd like it but I'm used to it and with my 34" inseam I think it would be the best option, as when I sat on one with mid controls I could sense that I might be uncomfortable on extended rides.

I'm not too proud to relate that the first few trips there were times where I went to put my feet on mid controls that. . . weren't there! But I soon did get used to it, and the way the seat and bars and forward controls are it's quite a natural and comfortable position and doesn't seem to really sacrifice any "control."

Just got my Black Denim 08 Fat Bob yesterday! Being here in normally sunny San Diego does have its benefits...

I had a big-ass grin on my face all the way home from the dealer. The bike handles great. I am impressed with the tight feel of the bike, and the great low-end throttle response. The only thing that was a little un-nerving was the seemingly mushy breaks. I just switch from a 07 Star 1100 Classic, and the brakes on it seemed more responsive.

It's sooo hard to work, knowing my FB is sitting in the garage waiting on me!

So it appears that I'm the honorary Fat Bob Squadron Wench huh? I can deal with that!

Got my Pacific Blue Pearl FXDF on September 25, 2007 and have almost 5,000 miles on her already. I literally stalked dealerships in the North Florida area for about four months (soon after HD announced the 08 models) and threatened them all if they didn't put me first on the call list! LOL I am now pretty much known as the first person to get a Fat Bob in the area and even had my bike featured at one of the local bike nights here so everyone could see what one looked like in person. (Aren't I special! LOL) I had literally been in one of the dealerships the day before mine came in when they called me the next day to tell me they had gotten one in. I was at the dealership in about an hour and they were just getting her put together out of the crate.

They put Screaming Eagle pipes on her and I rode with those for a bit but you couldn't hear me! Ordered Rush 2" slips ons with compatible tips to match the tommy gun effect on the upper portion of the pipes and did a Stage I download on the recommendation of Rush just in case we hit the mountains this summer. They say it helps in the higher elevations, otherwise if I were to stay here at sea level I wouldn't have needed it. She sounds MUCH better, much beefier, low rumble, and louder but not obnoxious. Just a nice Harley sound which will sound even better over time. Put a spoiler on the front, chrome cover on the voltage regulator, LED blinkers and tail lights with smoke lenses, chrome battery cover band, Dyna shift linkage, new hand grips and foot controls. I would love to bore her out to 103 but will have to work on the DH for the money to do that. Our dealership has been having a special to do it for $1,000 which I guess is pretty standard. She's fast as hell, but you can't have too much power, can you?

I love what some of you have done with the rear fender. That was about the only thing I didn't care for. Have always preferred the round fender. That's sweet looking on the Fat Bob. I am also looking for detachable bags for when we do trips and possibly some brighter bulbs in the headlights. My husband has a Heritage and I always have to let him ride in front at night as his lights are much brighter than mine. Don't want to put engine guards on so I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get more light at this point with the exception of putting in a brighter bulb and seeing how that works.

Anyway, didn't mean to get wordy but I'm a woman and I love talking about my bike so what do you expect! ;)

Sign me up for t-shirts too! I love the WWII motif! It rocks!

Hi Triman, yeah I saw all the discussion about the trademark infringement. I understand the Harley part but not sure about the Fat Bob part. Hard to see how someone could copyright two very common words that aren't a corporate name. Of course, maybe someone could write or call the MoCo and find out if Fat Bob is protected. If that is the case, then Harley really needs to come out with some more brand specific merchandise.

Trophy Guy, a lot depends on your leg length. I have long legs and the forward controls are perfect for me and feel completely natural. In fact, before I got my bike and I was looking at the 07's I knew that the first mods I would make were going to be drag bars and forward controls. I just like the feel and the look. So when I saw the Fat Bob it was love at first sight.

Scooter Wench
02-28-2008, 11:29 AM
Hey PhilJS

I hear rumor that the MoCo actually designed the Fat Bob to appeal to the European market. Something about how that is the trend in customization over they and they thought it would be a good seller. How is it doing over there? Tough market to compete with Triumphs, BMW's and the like across the pond.

Scooter Wench

JW, welcome to the Squadron! Does the Star have ABS? I know that there is a distinctly different feel between ABS and regular disc brakes. I've had to make a few sudden stops and it seems pretty responsive but I don't have much to compare it to since this is my first big bike. I've always ridden on the back with the exception of trail bikes and an old Honda I had many years ago. Never again!

Hey Triman!

A group of us are going down on Sunday morning, so I'll be looking for ya!!! Not going to be too warm fortunately! Just around 70 and sunny (sorry Tartan), so the weather should be perfect! It's those 90 degree days when it really starts frying your leg especially sitting on Main Street. I just try to avoid that if at all possible on hot days. Of course, there are traffic jams pretty much everywhere in the Daytona area during Bike Week. That's why we usually go down the first weekend as it's a little less crowded. Week days are the best! I'm supposed to ride in the MDA ride for women on Tuesday but there are supposed to be thunderstorms so we'll have to see how nasty the weather is. I'm not opposed to riding in the rain but if you've ever been in a Florida thunderstorm you'll know it's definitely not the place for riding. May have to go back down on Thursday for the Cole Slaw wrestling at the Cabbage Patch though LOL

Have fund and ride safe!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm here too. Got my Fat Bob in November. I tried several dealers across the west since I was traveling (kept missing the bike), and finally got it in central Florida where I am spending the winter along the coast. I had to have the dark blue pearl, but I think the red ones look a bit better. I don't care for standing out too much though. I've about decided on the Rush slipons, probable go with the SERT also. Got the Essentials kit too. I should have skipped it. I like the sissy bar, but not too fond of the windshield (looks or performance). I'll be in Daytona monday and maybe acouple other days. 1st bike event of the year. Gotta love Freedom.

Picked mine up yesterday. It'll take me some time to get used to forward controls (the only option over here). I don't like the crappy head lights that don't work properly but apart from that it's a great bike. I collected it from the dealers and rode around the Oxfordshire countryside for over a hundred miles before taking it home. It handles better than I expected but I didn't open up the power as I'm running it in. I didn't want to get off it. Here are some pictures:

This was taken outside Aldbourne Church. I stopped for a glass of Wadworth 6X at the Blue Boar on the village green. During WWII Aldbourne was home to members of America's 101st Airborne Division and its 506 Parachute Regiment.

These were taken at Uffington Castle. The earthworks you can see in the background are what remains of an 8th century BC hill fort.

Thanks. I ordered the bike back in September without having seen one. I didn't know what it would look like in black pearl until I saw yours. I then knew I'd made a good decision. I like what you've done to your bike especially the pipes and the tail light. I'm thinking of getting some Rush slip ons myself.

Tartan

Cheers. Yeah it's been a long wait but it's worth it now I've finally got the bike. Once I've done a few mods to get it to fit me comfortably it'll be perfect. It's not the smoothest or fastest bike I've ever had but it's probably the best.

I saw my first "other" Fat Bob out in the wild this past Sunday afternoon.

I was heading north in Hwy 1 somewhere between Half Moon Bay and Pacifica. The other rider was heading south on a Black Demin Fat Bob. I saw the dual headlights about a 1/4 mile ahead and knew right away.

These bikes look pretty damn cool in action. :)

Squadron Wench reporting in!!!!

Been riding my @ss off!!!! Saturday was a trip up to Fernandina Beach for lunch at The Surf Restaurant, sitting in the sun with a big group feasting on seafood. Sunday was a ride with a small group of friends down to Daytona. Another perfect day! Headed out early and took the scenic route down. First stop was at the convention center and the Harley extravaganza to pick up our HOG pins and check out all the bikes and gear. Then headed over to the speedway, ate lunch at Hooter's directly across the street from the speedway, then went over to check out vendors and such. Took the more direct route home and drove into the garage as the sun was setting. I took off solo this morning and headed back down to Daytona to participate in the women's Harley ride for MDA. Kinda cool having all those women and their Harley's in one place. The parking lot reeked of estrogen and exhaust! LOL I think what was really cool was the wide variety of people! Young, old, different nationalities, tall, short, thin, not so thin, there were all kinds of women and all kinds of rides. Then we proceeded to piss off everyone in Daytona by having traffic stopped as we went on our police escorted ride from the speedway to the convention center. Not the longest fundraising ride I've ever been on but neat in the fact that it was through the streets of Daytona during bike week. Lots of waving and horn honking, people taking pictures, news crews riding beside us taking film. It was definitely an experience. Once we got to the convention center I hauled butt back home as they were calling for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and I didn't feel like getting caught in them. Will probably head back down to Daytona at least a couple of times before it's all said and done

See now I like the stock look a lot too...at least the rear portion where they beef up...etc. Im still on the fence about the tommy gun part. Has anyone just gutted the stockers? Thanks for the input!

One other thing...my dealer told me that the 08 dynas came with a stage one filter now, and I wouldnt even have to do anything except add pipes and the ECU would learn it...sounds off to me. Has anybody else heard this? What is the "accepted" method and required equipment for a new filter and pipes...fuel pak needed?

You should be able to add slip-ons to the stock exhaust, either the HD Screaming Eagle or Rush, V&H etc. and not have to do a download, or fuel pack, etc.

Hi Scooter Wench,

You heard right, this is the part of the write up I read last year....

Harley-Davidson has launched its new Dyna Fat Bob with the intention of boost sales in Europe and the UK.
The bike is designed to reflect European custom trends, with a wide 130-section front tyre and twin, streetfighter-style headlights instead of the stretched-out forks and spindly wheels favoured in the States.
Based around the same 1596cc engine as the rest of the Dyna range, but with a new "Tommy Gun" exhaust system, the Fat Bob puts out an impressive 91ftlb of torque at just 3125rpm.

Anyway, it's a great bike, this one being my second Harley, my first was the FXDI Super Glide which I had for 3 years, all previous bikes were Jap.

I just got my Arlen Ness Stage 1 air filter and installed a few days ago...... took about a 50 mile ride and it runs fine...love the new intake sound. Pipes due in next week since they were on back order...... I was planning on using fuelpak, but on nightrider.com they said the stage one upgrade of pipes and AC you will still experience a 7% gain without fuel management upgrade or reprogramming.

I should have the pipes on by next weekend and I will let you know how it is after a ride or two.

My Fat Bob came in yesterday. My wife and I might go to the dealer today and look at it, it's just been inspected for damage (protective tape peeled off) and sounds like that's it. I'll tote the camera if we go. If I sound a little iffy on doing it, it's because we still have snowbanks around here, a few of which that are taller than my truck! It came in over a month early. Better than a month late. Plus a really good friend of mine passed away last saturday so I'm still dealing with that, he was big into oddball cycles so I might end up doing a memorial thing on the Fat Bob for him (Dave Manthey from Portage WI, enter Manthey and Munch Motorcycle on your browser and you'll see a few of his rare Munch's).
Anyways, on the Fat Bob, we might go up to try a Sundowner to see if our b-hinds would like that, wife doesn't like the stock seat too much. Dealer said they have a couple Sundowners in stock, if we can't try it on my specific bike, I'm sure they have another Fat Bob or Wideglide around we can try it on, although probably just in the showroom making vrooom vrooom (or would that be potato-potato?) noises.

Hi Gilly

Congrats on the new arrival!!!! I have to agree with your wife, I don't think I would want to sit on that back seat for very long. I just ordered a new brawler solo seat for mine to see how it feels. Might use that for around town riding and keep the original for longer trips. It's a really comfy seat but I like the look of the solo seat on the Bob. Also looking into a ton mods! Must have bent the customization rep's ear for over an hour the other day talking bout possibilities.

I'm sorry about the loss of your friend.

Awwwr, thanks Karen. He was such a special guy. Here I'll copy and paste an article in his local paper:
MURTAGH COLUMN: Seeking wheels in heaven
Seeking Wheels In Heaven
By Blanche Murtagh

Has David Manthey found the answer to that question? It has been said that there is no beer or sex in that hallowed place. Are there any motorcycles?
Those who knew Dave, who died last Saturday at age 57, grieve that he should leave the place of earthly existence while in the midst of a very ordinary project, that of shoveling snow off a roof. We envisioned Dave leaving us in a blaze of bright light, an ever increasing roar of motors in the background, with a smile on his ruggedly handsome face while firmly grasping the bars of his beloved Friedel Munch motorcycle. It was his version of heaven on Earth.
I do not write this remembrance as someone totally knowledgeable of Dave, but I am moved by the scope of the life he lived. He was Portage born and remained as a resident. Dave had graduated high school with my son John. I had not seen or been aware of Dave or his life since then, until he and his life partner, May Johnson, appeared at a Writers at the Portage meeting. They wanted to let us know they had written a book that was to be released soon.
The year was 2000, and the book was titled "Beyond My Wildest Dreams." Dave readily acknowledged that he had never thought of putting down on paper the story of his life until May Johnson, who he had nicknamed "Magic Johnson," showed up and said, "We're writing a book." She was the one who dotted the "i's" and created complete sentences out of his ramblings.
The introduction in the book sets the flavor of what was written, with these words: "We're going to try our hardest not to bore you with this introduction so this is not going to be one of those two-and-a-half page long introductions ... but please excuse the poor English throughout this book since I ain't hardly had no learning when I was a young one. That's because my whole life was spent in search of the ultimate wheels, instead of conforming to what was expected of me. What you are about to read is only a small part of my quest for what became my life's dream, the Munch Mammoth. (This writer's note: the Munch Mammoth is the Cadillac of motorcycles, manufactured in Germany.) Because of this obsession, I have gone way 'beyond my wildest dreams.'"
In appraisal of the book, Paul Watts, a journalist in California, writes, "... it will make your sides ache in this true story — too crazy to be fiction — that takes American humor to a whole new dimension."
The back cover has a picture of Dave and Jay Leno, with whom he had spent some days in California, connected in their love of motorcycles and cars. Dave had also traveled to many European countries.
Judy Van Schoyck-Fritscher of Portage, who had been the proofreader, writes: "The author will tell you ... in the course of his journey from small-town Wisconsin to the bright lights and big cities of Europe and the United States. Follow the kid who nearly fainted while giving a freshman book report, as he masters the arts of public speaking and writing."
When I had mentioned at a writer's meeting that I had worn out my word-processing machine (actually knocking the "h" out of it), Dave invited me to the warehouse in which he kept the accumulation of things that he had been garnering for many years. He thought he had several word processors.
Several days later we met at the warehouse that was familiar to me as it had belonged previously to a friend who was a casket dealer, and had used the building to store the products of his profession. Its interior had assumed an entirely different image. Dave eventually found the word processors, but they appeared to be of a time in which electricity had first emerged, and were not of any possible service to me.
Dave then gave Neil and me a tour of the contents of the warehouse that was visible proof that anything, and

Another one converted to the Fat Bob.
I just traded my 05 Streetglide 1550 after I tried a FB with a 103 conversion! Wow what a ride, pulled from anywhere even in 6th, so I ordered one with 103 motor, se255 cams, SERT and V & H pro pipe, and getting the exhaust and air cleaner Blacked. Pick it up in 3 or 4 weeks, can't wait. Vivid Black, because once you get marks on matt it's knackered!
How do I get hold of one of the FB Squad shirts, great design, can some one give me a price to UK?

That's what I want to do with mine Still trying to talk hubby into it! LOL He says all it would do is to feed my testosterone levels and that we can't afford the speeding tickets. I have no earthly idea what he would be talking about!!!! The fact that I got a ticket for doing 92 mph (in a 65 zone) in my Magnum R/T (Hemi) just a couple of months after getting it last year has no bearing on his opinion at all! [sm=bustedsign.gif]

Newbie here checkin in from CT. Picked up my 08 DF, denim black, in February; squeezed in about 50-60 miles in between snow and rainstorms[:@] Hopefully double that tomorrow!

Before that it was an 89 Shadow 1100...I know, I know! Ah well - gotta start somewhere. Absolutely LOVING the new bob - worth every penny I've paid so far, and every penny I'm going to be paying down the line :D. So far just the wrinkle black fin'd derby cover and smoked lenses - waiting until about 500 and going w/Rush 2" slipons, stg1 air cleaner, and a SERT. Hopefully I'll get some pics up this weekend!

See ya on the road!

Hey just here to post some new pics of the Fat Bob, weather has been great so far for riding here in NC. I hated the 08 air cleaner cover so I went with a smooth one from Harley and took the emblem from the old one and added to the new one. The Vance and Hines Short Shots are great, you need some noise with the drivers here in Fayetteville.

Greetings from Morocco, just taken delivery of adeep blue Fat Bob - fits local colours- not many in this part of the world. This is a great bike for the roads here, where high speed is not an option and mountain/coast cruising is a dream. Good local mechanics not too accessible, so my question is : is there a simple DIY way to release the sound a bit more ?

I had my 2008 Fat Bob (denim black) delivered about a week ago. I live in Milwaukee and haven't had the opportunity to ride yet. The roads are still covered with salt and sand. Also, another 1-3" of snow expected on Friday. I'm praying for warm weather!!!!!!!! It's very hard looking at the bike just sitting in the garage. I'm anxious!

Put the pipes on yesterday- Rush slash down 1.75" baffles. Already had the Ness Big Sucker A/C on for a few hundred miles already. Put about 50 miles on yesterday and it ran great. No new ECM or reprogramming done or required. Im pleased.....
My only complaint is the bottom pipe extends further than the top.......not like stock where the taper meets the bottom where the top left off creating a straight line......it isnt adjustable either. But.....I suppose I am the only one who is looking or will even notice. I cant complain getting pipes and A/C kit for only 350.00 (shipping included)from Fuel Moto.

Okay ordered it yesterday and the dealer said 4 weeks max (and these blokes never lie... right?). I've ordered fair bit of willy G skull stuff to go with so i suppose my first few hours spent with the new women in my life will be on my knee's (nothing new there!). So i have 4 weeks left on my nightster, i only owned it for 6 weeks anyway so its not like i'll really miss it.

A guy who bought his Fat bob from the same dealer i use has removed his baffles from the stock exhaust, it sounds great and the folks in harley say that theres no need to re-map or getfuel pack so i'll be trying that before i spend money on new pipes. I might even drill out the stock baffles and then stick em back in until i get the sound i'm looking for.

Nice to see a few U.K owners here, maybe we can meet up some stage or another.

I'll post as soon as i get my bike (4 weeks..... they PROMISED!!!) :)

Take care all!

I sure know what it's like to play the waiting game. I first saw the Fat Bob last May when they first announced the new 08's. I was a first drawn to the Rocker as I was sort of looking for that kind of style. I started talking to my first (ex) husband about what kind of bike I should get and he suggested that I look at the Fat Bob closer. The more I looked, the more I liked. Once I made up my mind then I had to wait for Harley to start delivering to the dealerships. I literally stalked various dealers in the area for MONTHS! Everyone had my number and I made sure they didn't forget that they were to call me when the first Fat Bob came in. I waited the whole summer when I could have easily gone out and bought an 07. I have to say it was worth the wait. September 27th I got the call that my local dealer had gotten one in. I was down there within the hour. Got her home, jumped on, took a spin around the neighborhood to get a feel for her, and I haven't looked back! Congrats on your pending arrival and know that you are going to love it!!!!!!!!!

Wow! A whole thread dedicated to the FXDF! I am really happy with the way this bike handles, the last Dyna I had ridden was a mid-90's Low Rider. I personally don't care for the tractor tires so I have replaced those with ME880's and raised the forks in the tree's 1.25 inches. Starting to look the way I want it. I know it is heresy but I am also removing the Johnny Five light and putting on a 5 3/4 inch unit from a FXST.

Hmmm...what else. Oh, I also put on a Rinehart 2:1 with the SERT. Runs a lot better. I am coming off of an R model Vrod so the power is not that great, but I will get it there.

Nice to see everyone elses bikes here!

Jetson's Noise?

Anyone else have a noise coming from the engine that sounds like a Jetson's car? I like it but I want to make sure its not something that's a problem.

Hit 500 miles the other day and I'm looking at a run to Panama City in the coming weeks, I'll miss the big rally, just to stretch the legs on this thing. Lovin' every minute of it. Thanks to all from here who joined the Myspace group... for you newbies, check it out and add to it. Just go to myspace.com, click on groups, then search for "fat bob squadron"

Hello from New Zealand,
My FXDF (Candy Red Sunglo) arrived a week or so ago, but I can't have it yet because the forward controls need to be changed to mid controls (please don't deluge me with posts about why I should go with the forward controls!!) and the dealer has had to send for new casings from the U.S.! It's a dyna. I believe it's right below the lowrider on the list under dynas. There's several pictures of them up including the post right before yours.

I picked mine up today. I got a bit annoyed at how long it took on such a beautiful day. I was also annoyed to find my insurance doesn't have a five grace period on a new purchase. With it being good friday an agent had to come in to their office to get me the insurance so I could ride it home. I'll be sure to send a gift basket, or whatever, as a thank you. It ended up being three before I got of the lot, but it was enough to have a little fun. I expected it to be a step up from a 94 sportster, just didn't expect such an improvement.

Oh yeah, it's a whole differant world for me. This is my first big bike. People are always polite to not insult your pride and joy, but I always had the impression some felt I ought to get a real bike. I had no idea what they were talking about. The Sportster was my first Harley and before that I had a honda 450 then a V65. It was just a whole differant world setting down on a Harley. It's a whole differant world on a big bike. I think I would still prefer the sportster for buzzing around town, but on the open road it's just a whole differant league.

That's funny you should mention that, but my bike has developed a Jetsons sound too - good way to describe it. My bike has 1100 miles on it. Been trying to figure out where it's coming from. For me it happens through low-mid range acceleration, for all gears. Trying to think about what might have changed - let's see, I've installed stage 1 A/C and slips-ons - didn't notice it then. I need to think about this some more.

Tomorrow I'm riding two-up with the wife to a local bike swap-meet - I'll see if she can hear it. If so, I'm hoping, with her help, I can figure out where it's coming from.

Welcome and congratulations to all the new Fat Bobbers

Cheers,
-Jack

Hey Bax, that is a Rinehart 2:1. They are kinda spendy, but I had one on my R model Vrod and really liked it. It was one of the few pipes on the market that would actually add HP to the Vrod. Most pipes cost a couple of HP. Hardly anyone made pipes for the R version so I kinda bought it to reward Rinehart for making the effort.

The HD guy that put it on and dyno'd it said he hadn't ever dyno'd a bike with one on and that it was about the easiest pipe he ever tuned.

A little better pic. Not sure if I am going to keep the single headlight or go back to the Johnny 5 one.

Great looking so far! I dunno about the headlight. I like the single, it looks fine, but the twin headlights sort of say "I'm different, look at me!" LOL Whichever appeals to you will be fine. I think they both look good. Good job on the pictures too!!!

Yeah, I ended up not liking it either. Made the bike look too dated so I went back to the dual. I don't like how high the dual sits so I am going to buy a mount piece and have it milled down a half inch or more. That will put the center point of the light in the middle of the trees.

The best thing I did was get rid of that damn tractor tire on front.

Scooter Wench: i just thought of this, if you think it'd be cool if your bike made the Jetsons sound, maybe you just need to buy a BMW K75!!!

Anyone know what the reference to "Johnny 5" headlight is??

Can I install RUSH 2.25 baffles for my stock FatBob pipes for a boost in sound level?

mlarsen77
03-25-2008, 09:26 AM
In this forum I have seen that people have gone up to 2.0. Im not sure if 2.25 would make much of a difference. I know at 1.75 the sound is a nice deep tone with a subtle crack under a load. Cruising has a nice tone also. I did not have to make any EFI changes or install a new ECM......it runs fine with just pipes and air cleaner.

Do a search for rush 2.25. The HDforums search feature is back up and working great.

For other info- check this site......its packed full of cool stuff-

http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hd2007HD_performance.htm

For pipes 229.00and air cleaner 109.00-
