Hi Guys, I have been lurking on this site for some time now and decided to officially join so I could thank you all for this great thread. This is my first Harley and I was at the point of trying decide the next step. I just had the 5k service. I also just installed Rush Slip ons 1.75 and was real happy with the sound performance. Was thinking about upgrading AC and doing Stage 1. Thanks to you guys I bought the IED's and will just stay with those for now. Very happy with the results. I was thinking about going to the XIED's but haven't for two reasons. 1) The IEDS were very difficult to install on my '07 FXSTC. The front connector a breeze but the back one is under the seat in a very tight spot to reach. Taking the seat off doesn't help. I had to get my girlfriend to come over and reach up there with here smaller hands. She finally got it but I had to listen to her complain about " If I break a nail..." 2) This may seem funny but I am a little concerned about the EPA violation I am doing. There is a disclaimer on the product saying how illegal it is to use there on a street bike in California. I paid 20k on a bike so I am willing to do what I need to to get it to run and sound the way it was intended. My Rush slip ons aren't legal in CA either. The air quality in the San Francisco Bay Area where I live can get pretty bad in the summer, LA is worse, so I am thinking of the IED's just to richen it up enough to run better and cooler with out adding more emissions than necessary. Is that dumb? Thanks again you guys for all the great advice and hard work. Craig Thumbnail Image

ORIGINAL: smokey Thanks for the response Rider57. As to spark plug gap I've seen somewhere on this thread that 42 works well with Xied, is there any advantage with going to 44? Smokey, Sparkplug gaps are hit and miss. What works at one altitude works differently at another. All I can say is, try it and see. Read your plugs after the change and adjust them as needed for the results you want.

Smokey, I knew when I posted my numbers it would draw attention but I was in a hurry. I'm using an old Sears round gage you know the one with the ramp around the outer edge with increments on it. Well it's so warn that I'm probably closer to 42 than 44 and you'll also notice my lower number was off a thousands or so at 38 instead of 37. Unless you're using a quality gage or feelers it's more or less windage. The whole point was that by opening the gap the performance gain was beyond anything I was expecting. Because the fuel to air has been enriched it makes sense that more spark would help the burn. I would also recommend to others on here who say they aren't seeing the gain they expected to check their plug gap! Ride well, Jim

OK 100 degree weather here today and a 30 min. highway ride saw my oil temp up around 240-245 my head temp with a digital thermo was 291 rear and 271 front .... this is with XIED and a stock 08 110. I bought a heavy breather and will try that out next. Then I am trying to decide between rush or or supertrapp SE....would really like to hear them both first but..... I am a little worried that I will be leaning things out too much again, but I guess I will do the mods test take data and see...!

Mine is still lean since adding the XIEDs and I run the Stock A/C and I am at sea level. But the XIEDs are better than the IEDs on my bike. Doc

ORIGINAL: HDDOC Mine is still lean since adding the XIEDs and I run the Stock A/C and I am at sea level. But the XIEDs are better than the IEDs on my bike. Doc HdDOC I am running the 3 inch internal disc slipons as well but with no discs and stock headpipes with crossover (like the sound better without discs),and big sucker air cleaner, I have had the xieds on for about 500 miles now ,I also get a bit of popping but the bike seems to run good and the plugs look good ,the insulater has a slight hint of tan and the ground strap has black carbon half way up it from the threads which is suppose to be a sign of a good burn, seems to get better gas mileage, not much maybe 5 miles to a tank better than without xieds ,it all seems good except for the rear glowing head pipe when riding at night this one thing doesn't seem right to me and I was hoping that this device would cure it because my last fuel management device did the same,I did a search on glowing head pipes and it seems that I am not the only one with the problem(if it is a problem at all) on the newer baggers ,harley says it is normal ,was thinking it may be more of a problem with the stock cams having no duration (overlap)and not so much a fuel management issue, other than that I am happy with the purchase of the xieds easy to install and easy to take off if there is a need for warranty work ,bike runs and sounds great can't ask for a whole lot more for a hundred bucks and thats Canadian money.

Anacra -- I received mine within a week. I think it all depends on whether he has them in stock or not.

This is an excellent thread & I thank everyone that has provided input. Ive read most all of it, but didnt see the following question answered.... If I mssed something, sorry ! 07 RK, Ness ac, Supertrapp SEs, V&H Fuelpak .... plans are to install a basic HD 103BB w/ 255 cams, no head work. Bolt in & go V&H has a program for it but with the Fuelpak, sometimes its Hit or Miss on a real good set-up Since it will be a 103, would installing the XIEDs w/ the V&H program be worth the time?.. or a waste of money or... Would the XIEDs alone w/ the stock ECM , 103BB kit & no Fuelpak do it as needed. ie: Can the XIEDs be used in place of a Fuelpak on a 103BB kit Thanks in advance Jim www.FastAire.com

Just a 2 week update, My stock 07 ULTRA preformance has been AWSOME! Power increase at lower RPM's is great. 55mph in sixth gear strong plus open up throttle and she takes off without downshifting! Xieds doing everything there supposed to do. Never thought I'd say this but, Xieds are the MAGIC PILL!

Not really sure how they perform just yet but I do wish the front one could be hidden and not stick out.

Cruiser before the 100 degree day they were white with a slight hint of tan. As I have said I am a very happy customer. I will keep posting my results - thinking of buying that head temp gauge that was posted some where in the 39 pages here... anyone else try it?

UPDATE! Background: 2008 Ultra, Bone stock engine, K&N a/c, Rush slip-ons with 2" baffles, V&H true duals, V&H Fuelpak, and at last...XIEDs. Couldn't be better, cooler, better looking, better performance, gas mileage has increased (~40 mpg), no more pop on decel, no flat spots, no surge, grinds like a champ in 6th, sounds like a Harley! What could be better than that? Jim

I just got gas tonight and only got 37mpg on that tank. We do have 10% ethanol in our gas. It seems to be going lower as time goes on. My Ultra has a stage 1 with HD performance slip-ons. Any ideas?
