I recently returned home from Iraq, while I was there I purchased a Harley through a military program, Figured I deserved it. I have fainlly reached my 1000 miles. I am having the Stage 1 air cleaner kit put on and want to change the exhaust. When I had asked at the dealer about the Screamin Eagle Exhausrt slip-ons he told me they are not much louder then the factory exhaust.I have since spoke to some one else and they said they are wrong it is alot louder. Does any one know if they are or are not much louder? Or should I just go with an after market exhaust? If so what do you recomend A Vance and Hines, I am looking for loud not so much prefotmance. It is a 2007 Dyna Super Glide FXD.

When I first got my 06' Superglide I went with the Screamin Eagle I series. not much difference from stock at all. I have heard that the SEII is a much louder muffler. I would really recommend, (from my own experience), to go with Vance and Hines instead. they are a much louder slip on. looking for a set of straightshots myself.

If you are looking for loud more than performance, don't look twice at SE's. They are not that much louder than stock. You may want to look at V&H's, Rush, Cycle Shack, or maybe even some older SE II's if you can find some. I've had the SE II's and the V&H's - I liked the V&H's better. They were plenty loud for me.

Had SE1 mufflers installed when I bought my '06 Low Rider. I'm not sure if the current SE are the same, but mine were louder than stock. They were not the sound I ws looking for so I sold them to a Forum member and he likes them. Now have V&H Straightshots HS slipons with with Quiet baffles and I'm happy with them, although the fiberglass needs replacing.

I just put on a pair of the new ones and I like them. But they are NOT loud. Just a deeper tone then the stock mufflers. I would say they are barely louder then stock.

Does any one know if they are or are not much louder? I think you got your answer. "Loud" is a subjective thing. I also have a 2007 Super Glide. After 5,000 miles, I thought the stock mufflers sounded pretty good. I got a set of the new 49-state street legal slip-ons. They are without question louder than my stock pipes. But they're not loud in the sense that they're going to wake up the neighbors or make other drivers flinch when I go past them. My subjective assessment is that at highway speeds they're not especially loud at all (based on my exhaust note in underpasses.) What they are is deep-sounding at idle and low speed -- which is where I get to hear them anyway. I like 'em a lot. But that's just me.

First of all welcome back home and nice bike. Military auto sorce is a good thing for us. One of the officers that I work with has some of the SE on a 03 deuce. Not the sound that I want so I'm going with the V&H sideshots. They'll be here next week sometime. This is a good place and you should get some good feed back.

FXDL 2007 and just installed K&N A/C with Power Comander III and Rhinehart 2-2 Flush and they are loud as sh*t. Lov'in it! The neighbors all looked outsde when I cracked it the first time. Friends own bourgets and they were amazed with the sound. I am pretty amazed at the responsiveness and sound. I feel the concrete slab of my garage shake too. Could not think of any other set of pipes I would want. I am sure everybody could say that about their own set too.

I have the SEII's that were discontinued in 2006 because of the epa regs. Love em.

I have the SEIIs that were discontinued on mine too. Just put them on recently. So far, I love em. I haven't rode it enough to tell if it's changed the performance any, but the sound is much better. Not too loud, but louder than stock. Just right in my opinion. It's just that though...all about opinion. My neighbor is dying to take the baffles out to make it louder. I don't want to. I don't want to take away the back pressure. I am considering Thunder City Baffles later though.

my '04 super glide sport fxdx has screaming eagle II exhaust pipes, SE breather kit, K&N air filter. The sound is loud enough to tear your ears apart. I really love it when going through a tunnel. personally i'm not that fond of vance n hines or hardkrome. Thunder headers are loud but more bass and punchy noise. Wanna go louder? get the samson pipes, not the slip ons. They're mean and LOUD! if you change the exhaust, performance will upgrade too just a little.

I have an '03 Lowrider that I had SE'2 on. They were louder than stock and definately a lot louder than my Girfriends SE1's that she put on her '07 Lowrider. I have since put the Rinehart staggereds on my bike after I did a bunch of motor work. When I had this done my girfriend bought the same pipes for her '07!. If you're even thinking about the V&H stop looking at the SE's b/c they are not even close to being the same loudness. Looks like this forum just saved ya some cash (from buying 2 sets of pipes until your happy)!! That's what this is all about. Good Luck to you! Wade

Welcom back. I did the same thing, but bought two bikes after returning from Iraq. Put SE IIs (which are no longer offered by HD) on my WG. They are much louder than stock. the current SE slip-ons are EPA compliant and aren't much louder than stock.

Mostly on topic, I want to ask a question: How can you tell the difference between the EPA compliant/newer Screaming Eagle slip-ons and the older/louder Screaming Eagle slip-ons? I ask this because I bought a 2006 Sportster that has the slash-down Screaming Eagle slip-ons. On the underside of the pipes I think it says something like "Not for street use" and no EPA stamp? I think I have the older ones but I'm curious what the newer ones say on the underside and if they have the EPA stamp. Kanzig

Hey Lumpyk, thanks for serving. I think Rinehart makes great stuff. I have BUB Chamber Maid pipes on my 94 Lowrider. A buddy of mine has Rinehart slipons on his Street Bob. Both bikes are awsome sounding. At MB last week I saw a pair of Black Rinehart short slipons that I think I would like. Some say that they are a bit pricy, but I'm telling I think they are great sounding. bobtheuke, According to my understanding the EFI system runs the fuel air/mixture at 14.7:1. HD said in the Enthusiast magazine that changing pipes would not cause the EFI system to run leaner than that. That said, Night Rider has the XIED system for about $100.00 USD. These adjust the output from the O2 sensors causing the system to run at a richer 13.8:1. Cheap and easy to install, they'll work ok with what ever mufflers although changing mufflers back and forth sounds like a lot of trouble. Hope this helps. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

You can also swap out for different baffles. As long as you do not change out the air cleaner then you would not have to do any other modifications.

ORIGINAL: lumpyk I am looking for loud not so much prefotmance. I have the 49 state Screamin Eagles. I like them a lot, but they are not loud. They have a good sound, definitely not stock. Good torque producers (IMO, no Dyno). I settled on these because I was moving to CA and knew my new neighbors would not put up with the ShortShots, and wouldn't have to with the law on their side. I would love to have pipes that made little kids cry, but not if I am riding out of my house at 7am every workday. If you are going for sound over performance, don't go for these, especially not for $300.00 MSRP. You could look for a set of Rush or SEIIs new on Ebay or on this forum for way less $ and spend the rest on an AC and IEDs. Good luck.

Kanzig, I have the Screamin Eagle Street 49 state (new, quieter SEs) They have an EPA stamp on them (I think 84db) and are stamped "Screamin Eagle" not "Screamin Eagle II". When you look into the business end, it is obvious they are not a hollow pipe, they have an inner pipe that come almost all the way out to the end of the chrome outer pipe. If yours look hollow and have "Screamin Eagle II" and no EPA stamp, they are probably the pre-06 race use only pipes.

I just installed the screamin' eagle II 80258-99A slip on's and they are much louder than the original. These were produced in '05 and may be different than the one's currently offered by HD. I got mine off of Ebay. I am VERY happy with the sound as well as performance.

I have to disagree as for the UK martket my SE II slip ons were way louder than the stock exhausts. By the way I have a set of these for sale for an '06 / '07 FXD with about 2K miles on them in pretty much new condition - can't get them new any more in the UK for love nor money. Do what I did and go to your dealer and see if he has any second hand bikes in stock with different exhausts on and get him to fire them up so you can listen to them.

It's a program that's open to all deployed or overseas military personnel, but only if they're serving outside the continental US. If your brother-in-law is serving in Okinawa or something like that, or is in Iraq/Afghanistan, he's eligible for the program. The program sells Harleys (and Dodge/Ford vehicles as well) at roughly MSRP, so you do save a couple bucks. I'm in Iraq right now, and will likely be reserving an '09 Street Bob before I leave country...they're all out of '08s. It'll be available for pickup at a dealership in November. Can't wait. On topic with the thread, what other companies put out the slant-cut slipons like the SE's? I want something better than those, but I do like the look.

I have a set of the Screaming Eagle slip-ons 80493-07 on my '07 FXD. when I first put them on, I did not think they were that much louder than stock, just deeper. I believe they have gotten louder over time, like the fiberglass packing has gradually blown out... and I really like the sound of them. I don't 'wake' the neighborhood when I start it, but when I get on it, I set off car alarms as I pass. But, if I were you, and considering more performance, I'd consider a 2 into 1 exhaust system also.... just my $0.018
