Dude played his ass off, no doubt. Charlie Hustle.

KILLED the career of Ray Fosse.

HOF, I say no.

He does deserve it, but then again he does not deserve it.

He denied for so long to not betting, then he did finally admit to said act.

As a manager, how easy would it have been to throw a game?

NOT ANY/EVERY game...

But that certain ONE game.

Too shady, IMHO.

Discuss...................

I think he would be in the hall if Bart Giamatti didn't die. some of the truth would of came out. he would of did his time and be in the hall. but Fay Vincent had issuses with Rose and he would never let him in. if he leveled with Selig from the start thing might of been different, but I think after all the years passed he doesn't feel he would ever get in so he admitted to it, just like everybody wanted him to do.
does he belong in ths hall. YES.
let the fans speek, he not the only gambler in sports. let his record speeks for it self.

He deserves to be there.  I grew up in Cincy during the Big Red Machine and saw him play many times.  Hell, Babe Ruth was a drunk and he's in there.  It should be their ability, not their personal life that gets them in.

There are countless racists, bigots, drunks, and cheaters who managed to make it into the HOF.......so why cant Rose? Look, he admitted to gambling on games as a coach...but never as a player. His HOF credentials are based on his PLAYING days, not his COACHING days...

I definitely say put the man in the HOF.....as his career is better then dozens of players in the HOF....

Hell, if you really want to be evil about, make sure to put an asterik in his Bio about him gambling on games...

Another vote for letting him in...........Way too much hypocrisy in the HOF selection process........in addition to what's stated above........How many illegal drug users are currently in the HOF ? My guess is lots.

As a player she should be in the HOF. But not as a coach.

I say yes, but everytime they mention something about him going into the HOF as a player, they also keep bringing up the tard bat incident. They always show the highlights of it when mentioned, Hey, do you think Rose should be abducted into the Hall of Fame...... Then here comes the highlights of the bat thing again.

Are you thinking of the George Brett, Pine Tar Incident?

Yes he should be in....he didnt do steroids for gods sake...and is the best hitter in the history of the game....todays players could learn something from the way he played the game...Ran on, and off the field, gave 100% and layed it out every game.

Charlie Hustle deserves to be in.  I loved watching the guy play.  He gave it his all on the field.  So he made a few bets, others have done worse (steroids).

The betting overall doesn't really both me, my only problem is he placed bets on his own team, He says he didn't bet against the Reds, but then he's lied before.

He was a great player! With the stats to prove it.

I'm not sure he'd get enough votes to get in. Maybe someday he'll make it.

Yes but the one thing that got me was....
I believed him and after all these years he truns around and said he did. Based on just his playing, yes he should be in.

I agree. As a baseball player he deserves to be in. As a human being... Well, he's a jerk and worse than that, a liar. A few years back I was listening to sports talk radio and they were talking about how harsh the testimony was against Rose. They mentioned that the public would never know the full extent of his indiscretions. On a personal note, As a teenager, I was a huge Pete Rose fan. This taught me not to hold the image of your heroes too tightly...

How many watched the Clemens hearing today? After this circus and what is no doubt going to confirm the wide use of steroids and HGH in baseball over the last decade, what Rose did is minimal to the cheating of the game these guys have committed. I say let Rose in.

Hell yes Pete should be in HOF! It's ok to let in the juiced players who cheated, but not a guy who bet. Not right. Pete as a player gave it his all.

Where gambling on baseball has always been illegal, it wasn't until 2002 that baseball inacted a policy against performance enhancement drugs. With that in mind, it can't be considered worse than gambling. It may be now, but not back before 2002.

I could understand if they banned him from having anything else to do with baseball, but as a player he should be in the HOF. I remember watching him like it was yesterday. In my mind there hasnt been a player in any sport that pushed as hard as he did. Every game he gave 110 %.

The Hall of Fame without CHARLIE HUSTLE is like a motorcycle museum without Harleys!!!
I grew up in Cincinnati also so my opinion might be a tad biased. In fact I grew up in Price Hill
about a 1/2 mile from Pete. Over the years I had many chance encounters with him. When I was about 10 years old He walked up to me and a buddy, handed us bats and said "Hey guys, You need a bat?" I gotta believe the denial crap was on the advice of his attorney. Hell it worked for OJ. Grandpa took me to Crosley Field so many times as a kid I can close my eyes and see it like it was yesterday! I spent my teens & early twenties at Riverfront Stadium rooting for THE BIG RED MACHINE! The wife & I were there for 4192! It was a full 25 minutes of thunderous applause, screaming, cheering, flashbulbs, strangers hugging each other, and tears of joy on damn near everybody's face. Hall of Fame without PETE? FUGGIT!

I think he should be in the HOF without a doubt. Was not a big fan of his but he did play the game like it should be played. His problems with the gambling were when he was a manager not a player, besides that, isn't the whole Black sox team in the hall and they did throw the world series way back then.

Does he deserve it????   HELL YES!  I grew up watching Rose play, and he was ALL baseball.  Never complained about anything.  Gave 150% evry single dogon play.  Nevr sat out a game beacause he had shoulder pain, abdominal pains, headaches, etc.  Look at these days, and whats going on with sports.  Everyone these days is what I like to call a "Pre Madonna".  Pete Rose "Charlie Hustle" was then, and to this day, the best at what he did.  Look at his numbers.....they speak for themselves.

Did he do wrong after the fact?  Yes he did.  But it was AFTER!!!!  He has been penalized long enough.

CH deserves to be in the Hall.

It's a tragedy that Pete is not in the HOF. I loved him as a kid. Everyone lies. Most will cheat if they can. He ain't a damn bit different than the rest of us. He did screw up and he's paid long enough.

Pete's game fixing and gambling pale in comparrison to the congressional investigation into professional doping in the sport.  That's cheating on the same scale isn't it?  It would be good to be able to put the gambling issue aside and just look at Pete as a player.  If the league comission could do that, could Pete qualify for the Hall on his hussle alone?  He's been punished, done his time, lost his reputation as a person and player.  Can he be and does he deserve to recognised for he sheer non-drug enhanced hustle and for the way he played the game?  I think so.  So put an asterisk next to his name....He belongs there.  JMHO..

What I wanna know is what's gonna happen when the time comes for some of this current bunch of misfits to get consideration for entry into The Hall? Surely they can't keep passing over Pete Rose while giving some of these clowns a look?

Hell yeah!!!!  He belongs there.  Look, the HOF isn't exactly made up of boy scouts.  I mean look at the way some of these guys lived.  Babe Ruth, arguably the greatest hitter of all time was great with kids ete, but he was also a big booze hound and skirt chaser.  Ty Cobb was as big a racist that you would ever find and it was rumored that he was betting on baseball back in his playing days, but that he had something on Commissioner Kenasaw Mountain Landis and it was covered up.  These are just two examples and I am sure ther are more.  HOF does not mean living a life like a choir boy, it means to me that you were the best when you played the game.
Just my 2 cents.

Exactly, I love the story about Ty Cobb kicking the shat out of a man who didn't share his ethnicity, AFTER he threw him out of his wheelchair.  Good insight JimiB.
