RE: What Brand Oil Filter Do You Use - 2/27/2006 7:16:44 AM    HDF Tech   Posts: 14559 Joined: 5/14/2005 Status: offline Not much will void your warrantee unless it causes damage to some part of the bike and then only what you caused damage to will not be warranteed if it was a job done by you incorrectly that caused the damage. (magnetic) You have alloys, brass and other metals that will swim right by the magnet. They are usually cheaper than the HD filters, plus they have a hex wrenching lug on the end for easy removal, and a hole to safety wire it. The K&N Performance Gold also filters particles down to 10 microns in size. I've taken the HD filters apart and I'm not very impressed with their design. That was about 4 years ago, so I'm not sure what brand they are using now. (in reply to HDF Tech) Post #: 12

These also happen to be automotive filters and are not designed for a motorcycle. The Harley engine is designed for oil volume and not pressure, so an auto filter can be restrictive. just be sure the filter you get was designed for the application that you are going to use it on. A buddy and I split a case of AC filters a number of years ago, couldn't tell the difference other than they only came in black. Ya know, if you change your oil every 2K or 2.5K, it doesn't get real dirty. I'd like to buy a different brand of oil filter, other than Harley. I have an S&S 113" that takes a short Evo Softail filter (Same as sportster). A painted filter will dissipate heat from the oil much better. Any thoughts? As much as i have tried to ignore this comment, sorry but i can't. So what your saying is when i go to change my oil and filter in my Dodge truck i should go to a Dodge dealer and get the oil and filter there because it's specked for my motor? Surely you jest. If you think a Harley oil filter is the best oil filter for your bike then so be it. I'm not going to put one on my bike when i can put a far superior filter on it, and it does work, no maybe about it. I have no idea how much a HD filter costs and i never will. Next you'll be saying we should only put HD oil in our bike that is contracted out to some oil Co that submitted the lowest bid to HD. You do what you want i could care less, but i'll continue to spin them Purolator filters on and dump in the Amsoil for the BEST protection for my bike. (in reply to peppi) Post #: 31

On this day you got a 15% discount. This is when I have purchased my oils/filters and whatever else I was needing. The last time, I purchased an chrome HD filter and it cost $12.99 (after the discount). Add 3 qrts of oil, primary and gear lube and you just dropped $50 I will never go back and I have this site to thank! I can buy better oil cheaper and now know what filters fit my engine. Its not so much the cost as
