Damn, I had to go back and edit my post because I forgot to put my bike in here.

The below pic is 640 x 480 which is the max size you can post without distorting the thread.

When I started looking for a bagger, I thought I wanted an Ultra Classic. I rode maybe 5 or 6 Ultras and I could not get over the feeling that I was trying to steer a school bus. On one test ride, I got out on the freeway in the wind and had to fight to keep the bike on the road.

Then I went to Bumpus Harley-Davidson in Murfreesboro, TN and talked to the General Manager. He owns a Road Glide. When I described my hesitation with the Ultra Classic, he suggested I test drive this 2005 Road Glide they had on the floor. Five minutes into the test drive, I leaned into the corner to get onto the freeway. I decided right then and there to buy the bike. The pictures I just posted are that same bike.

For me, the Road Glide handles about 1000 times better than the Ultra Classic. I also think it tracks better in the wind. The only reason I can figure? It's the frame-mounted fairing. That gets the weight off the front forks. Think about it. The fairing with all the guages and radio gear must weigh 100 pounds. That's on the front forks on an Ultra (or any Electra Glide). You've got to move all that weight to steer! The other benefit of the frame-mounted fairing is that when buffeted by the wind, it spreads the pressure throughout the frame. So, you are not fighting the wind with just your arms. You've got the weight of the entire bike behind you.

Now, I could be wrong on all this and I don't mean to disrespect the many proud owners of Ultra Classics and Electra Glides. For me, though, the Road Glide was the right combination of Big Bagger and sporty handling.

I love it!

Rick

Here's my Road Glide.
Nice bike, SubZer0.

I looked at an '05 just like that, but the color was just too loud for my personality, so I went with the Black Pearl. I want the ladies looking at me, not the bike. <G>
