This thread was created so all the Roadies could post pictures specific to their model.

Don't forget to vote for What Bike Rules Here On The Forum: Vote HERE (http://www.hdforums.com/fb.asp?m=105488&key=)

Have at it boys and girls.

Damn, I had to go back and edit my post because I forgot to put my bike in here:D.

The below pic is 640 x 480 which is the max size you can post without distorting the thread.

The only harley I have rode is my glide do they all track as nice as the road glide

When I started looking for a bagger, I thought I wanted an Ultra Classic. I rode maybe 5 or 6 Ultras and I could not get over the feeling that I was trying to steer a school bus. On one test ride, I got out on the freeway in the wind and had to fight to keep the bike on the road.

Then I went to Bumpus Harley-Davidson in Murfreesboro, TN and talked to the General Manager. He owns a Road Glide. When I described my hesitation with the Ultra Classic, he suggested I test drive this 2005 Road Glide they had on the floor. Five minutes into the test drive, I leaned into the corner to get onto the freeway. I decided right then and there to buy the bike. The pictures I just posted are that same bike.

For me, the Road Glide handles about 1000 times better than the Ultra Classic. I also think it tracks better in the wind. The only reason I can figure? It's the frame-mounted fairing. That gets the weight off the front forks. Think about it. The fairing with all the guages and radio gear must weigh 100 pounds. That's on the front forks on an Ultra (or any Electra Glide). You've got to move all that weight to steer! The other benefit of the frame-mounted fairing is that when buffeted by the wind, it spreads the pressure throughout the frame. So, you are not fighting the wind with just your arms. You've got the weight of the entire bike behind you.

Now, I could be wrong on all this and I don't mean to disrespect the many proud owners of Ultra Classics and Electra Glides. For me, though, the Road Glide was the right combination of Big Bagger and sporty handling.

I love it!

I looked at an '05 just like that, but the color was just too loud for my personality, so I went with the Black Pearl. I want the ladies looking at me, not the bike. <G>

Heres a front view. Sorry, I don't have any better side view. The bike fits me like a glove now, at 6'5", Lurch needed taller handle bars!:) Oh yeah, you can also see one of the spotlights I'm gonna put on the highway bars, it will have one on each side, mainly for the early morning ride to work, and deer!

to move up too.

Nice Ride WillieD! I have a buddy that recently picked up a Silver/Black RG. They sure look good...

TerryT - You can install WideGlide bars on the RG w/o having to replace or extend any cables or wiring. That worked out good for me. Of course, I'm not 6'5" either. See mine a post or two above Vetter's.

BTW - Vetter.... Love the Black/Silver too! Kinda partial to it, in fact. [sm=smiley16.gif]

[/quote] I'll need to post some pics. I havent a single picture since I took her home in Nov. '05. Anyhow, went through a similar process you described. Previously owned a '98 RK and piled up over 100K on her. Last year(2005) did a trip from Ct. to Sturgis, and down to Colorado and along the whole trip I took to noticing the ROADIES real hard. In Colorado we met and spoke to many other riders on extended trips like ourselves on various touring rigs. Basically what all the RG owners I spoke to had in common was they had the need for superior handling because they had tendencies to ride hard-enjoy cornering- and overall ride in a spirited manner. They all felt the RG met or exceeded expectations. What pushed me over the top to buy the RG was how many actually switched FROM other dresser models that HD makes over to the RG model by preference. Esthetics normally doesnt play a big part in my decisions but gotta say I likes the fairing. Splits the wind and is cutting edge in the design dept. I almost decided to keep the RK and get a 1800GoldWing or BMWK12 for touring but glad now that I went with the Glide. Not a fan of the 'Wings saddlebag design, and only about half the room compared to the KING tourpac by Harley. (however my Honda buddies I ride with remind me how handy the tupperware can be to microwave something) ;) So far to this point Im extremely impressed with the RG. Lovin' it. (posted pics to follow) I have installed the fan kit on mine-and detachable hardware for the tourpac.

Mutha - that looks great! Did you have your parts powder coated or did you use the HD stuff?

I have made friends with a local powder coating shop (read: spent a small fortune). It's a bit of a strange dilema... I take off a box load(s) of parts to get powder coated black, wait, spend $$$, put it back together..... then find something else that I "should have" made black. Start process over... hahahaha!!!!!

Oh well.... can't take it with me, so wtf...

Looks good, man!

Brand new in this photo. I had the HD shop put Screaming Eagle II slip-ons on it and a stage 1 breather/EFI kit. Since then I've added a new Air Wing horn cover. I'm planning on swaping out the stock seat for a Mustang as I have with all my previous Harleys. Any comments on the stock seat for long distances or suggestions for other modifications? It's a great bike -- it rides beautifully and handles better than any bagger I've ever ridden. Now if the weather would just cooperate...

Wolf,
Do you belong to the Zion Hog chapter of the Driffters ?

I used to winter out in St.George / Ivins area. I have several riding buddies
out there. One just sold his house in Ivins, and now has a 5th wheel in
Hurricane. One lives up in Leeds, and one lives up in Cedar City....!

Thanks Red Neck for the reply. I borrowed a friends 2005 last summer and put 300 miles on it. Rode up to the Grand Canyon and took the scenic route back home. Loved the Road Glide.

I ordered mine this past weekend. Going with the big bore kit, Bassani's Power Curve pipes and about $4000 in extra goodies. May have to quit working so I'll have more time to ride !!!!

We're new to the forum and I'm the wife lol! Learning all I can about our latest toy! We've owned an 87 FXST years ago and have waited 16 yrs for this newest addition :) Just picked up our new 05 Glide off the showroom floor. It's been raining almost non stop here in Utah since we got it, but we've managed to rack up 600 miles in about 5 days. We're in the process of getting the SE II slips ons and adding chrome. I've got the theme for the chrome all picked out, hubby is just shaking his head at the dollar signs lol!! Good thing he's cooperating :D So hello from Northern Utah!

Can you Road Gliders give me some feedback on the stock seat (05' or 06')? Is it a comfortable seat to ride on for any extended time or do most swap out the stock seat for aftermarket ones? I'm thinking of putting one on my Street glide. It fits and I like the look but don't want another uncomfortable H-D stock seat. Thanks......

Being the backseat rider I'll tell you the same thing Terry did. My hubby loves the stock seat, I don't. It's not comfortable for long rides. We bought the Pillow seat and I really like it. Hubby switches out to the stock when I'm not riding with him.

I have put 18" cusome chrome wheels, se slipons, street glide running gear, talfin mirrors, reverse license plate setup, stealth
rack and a bunch of little stuff. I was torn between the SG and the RG and I am very happy I made this decision. I love my glide!!

Okay, being an owner of an Ultra, I know I may be subjecting myself to criticism here -- but is anyone who owns a Road Glide bugged by the fact that the fairing stripe doesn't match with the stripe on the tank? It is as if two different engineers designed this, and missed the match up on the paint scheme.

However, this does not apply to the SE version -- Terry's bike, for example, shows that the eagle matches up as the detail goes down the side of the bike... And very nicely, I might say.

It just seems that this is an oversight which could really improve the fluid look of the bike from the side... Again, just my opinion.

Thoughts on this???

Yes, I agree and it does bug me. I don't know what the hell they were thinking! [:@]
I inquired about a solid or two-tone paint scheme when I was ordering mine, nogo. So, it's either buy an older used one with a different paint scheme (not many for sale in my area) or wait till the next model year and take ur chances...

You know, its like the fairing department and the tank department didn't communicate.... Is that something that someone just said "Oh well, since it has 'HD' on it, they'll still buy it"?

On the other hand, such detail was taken to the paint scheme on your bike, Terry, that they should have learned a lesson on its popularity. Heck, that is what I was looking for when I finally bought my Ultra. If there had been one like yours available, it would be in my garage right now. In fact, I've got "authority" from my wife that if one comes along, we could be a two bike family immediately -- and she just rides along as a passenger!

For my part, that fairing would be re-striped at the local body shop.....

I have to admit I've never been a big fan of yellow, with some exceptions in automobile history.
But H-D did a pretty nice job with this color and I think it looks especially good on the RG. ;)
The (mismatched) stripe matches well and I really like the way the black inner fairing looks against the yellow. Hell, even the black seat and tires for that matter.
Do you plan on changing the exhaust or you gonna stick with the stock headers?

I started a thread on this a few days back, but it occurred to me I should have just posted it here.
After all, our shields are "special."

$55 shipped. Love the way it looks, especially with the black pearl paint. This is the first time I've had the original (15") windshield off the glide. This one ships flat, whereas the original is curved, so I'm a little concerned about the outward stress/pressure. But it seems to be of very good quality and fits perfectly. Have no idea what to expect as far as wind is concerned, I would imagine it will be like not having a windshield at all? Am driving it to work tomorrow and will report back tomorrow night.

V&H Big Shot Duals on order.

Here is a link for the windshield...

I drove it to work today (11 miles of surface streets, top speed 50mph) and really dug it. I'm (obviously) getting more wind but I like looking over it (and you can see thru it). This is my first bike with fairing/windshield, so I'm used to wind. I've yet to drive it on the highway and I'm really curious to see what it's gonna be like at night. I keep going outside and looking at it...It gives the bike a much sleeker look and again, really ties in well with the black pearl paint. Makes me want to (almost) start blacking out more stuff. If the bike were black, I would definetly do that. And after seeing Toppers' black Street Glide with the black Bassani Road Rage pipe, I'm really diggin' the blacked out look. I almost considered cancelling my order for the V&H Big Shot Duals after seeing Toppers bike. But in the end I know that my bike won't look as good as his with that pipe, and all that extra power will just get me in trouble!

No, I really didn't.

I had a FatCat on my old RG and absolutely loved it. Performance, look, fit, sounds, quality, ..... it's all there. When I started putting this one together, the black ThunderHeader was the only one out there. Now there are several. When I discovered that I could get the D&D in black, it was only a matter of time....

FatCat has nice sound ~ not too loud under normal riding conditions, BUT when really get on it.... it'll talk to ya. I have had no trouble with hearing the stereo, nor has the wife. Trust me, if she could not hear it... I'd know. I just put the black FatCat on my current RG, but had one on my previous RG for at least 30k miles.... The pipe ROCKs!

Hey! The new tour pack looks really good.

05-23-2006, 12:32 AM
Greetings, I'm new at the site, so bear with me if this is improperly posted. I have an 04 RG. I got it new from the dealer with the stage 1 95"; touring mufflers and the SE 6spd (All under 7yr warranty). I had the trans pulley reduced from 32 to 30T to give a little quicker takeoff. I lose a little in the rpms, but this way I can use the 6th to cruise at 110-120 (70mph) (Cdn eh!), which is within reasonable speeding limits, instead of having to wait til 120+, which gives it excellent mileage. The bike also will also accelerate in 6th at 70mph and quicker overall as it is in its powerband earlier. I find the bike just hums along nicely between 140-180+ (90-110+mph), and is rock solid at 200 (120mph), but....
1) isn't as smooth as I'd like it to be at rolling or slow maneuver speed. I find I get occasional mild surges when friction zoning. I'm considering the PC3, but have been told that it has it's limits because the maps are specific to your regions altitude etc. any comments? I've also been told that H.D fuelies are set up lean by the dealer. To be fair, I was still riding the fxr last year, and I only have 3000mi or so on the RG, and so It will require a little more break-in & another chain/belt/timing adjustment in the future.
2) I have the touring mufflers, nice and quiet except when you grab a handful, but I like those black cerami-coated thunderheaders I saw on someones pics. Were they ordered directly from Rich's with the coating?
3) I have never had a seat, Mustang included, on any of my previous bike's that didn't make my ass numb during a long ride, including with this bike. I found that about the 3 hr straight mark, I was spending as much time sitting half on the passenger seat as the front. Perhaps its my bony butt, or maybe stock seats just suck. I want to either get a Corbin Dual Tour; Saddlemen roadsofa; or a Russell daylong...If anyone has any of these, please add their 2 cents. One of the guys at work, with a big Kawi, can't understand why bikes that cost us as much as these don't come with a better seat like the RoadZepp, right from the factory.
4) I find a little 'squirminess' at times on higher speed long curves...there's this gizmo I saw somewhere that cradles and secures your trans and drive from underneath that I'll look into getting, and I will probably add some 440 IAS shocks down the road somewhere...they did amazing things for my fxr's handling. I will also upgrade to Metzelers Me880's next year. I got heated grips which really came in handy on some frosty November a.m. rides last year. I also added a set of lowers I traded for, that I have vents to add into...these fuelies run kinda warm when you're sitting in rush hr. parking-lot traffic. In 03 (before I got the bike), I found an ultra king tourpak at Daytona swap for $100 that I later repaired, painted and bracketed to permanently fit. Found a mint chrome top rack also at the swap. After Americade last year, an accident victim from Washington I helped out sold me a set of Baker air wings right off his written off bike. They look kinda Goldwingy on, but they were almost free, scratchless, and they do work on stale air furnace type days. I find the 04 handle bars more than a stretch when lying back easy, chopper style, to take a break on long rides...or for when I'm sitting in the back seat...which I hope to resolve within the next month or so with a better seat. I have a set of 03 bars I got at the swap which go a little farther back that I will have to put on. I also think a set of those Ez Brake extended pedals will make a big difference, though the price is kinda steep... For my fxr, I welded up a piece to extend my controls, which I then powdercoated black, which was waaay cheaper...might try the same with these. I'm considering a repaint next year from the black with silver slash because of stone chips on the front fairing if funds permit. I should've waited for that black pearl. That guy with the leather fairing bra etc..bud, yo

Welcome Vic...

I'll take a stab at a couple of those.

The PCIII may, in fact, help some of the surges you mentioned. For your bike, as described above, you will need to find a good tuner to create a map for your configuration. It will NOT be geography specific, as the EFI system handles that on the fly. The PCIII, just "tricks" the ECM into running the bike the way it should be. You'll notice a BIG difference when you get one with a custom map.

I had a black ceramic THunderHeader on my RG until last weekend. I'll make ya a GREAT deal on it. Shoot me a PM, if interested. It's in great shape and has the heat shields included.

I have a Mustang seat and love it. I've done several Iron Butt rides and traveled all over the country. The seat is awesome.

The E-Z Brake and extended shifters are greatness too. They are a bit pricey, but I've had the same set on three (3) different bikes.

Again, welcome!

Later,

PhilM

I have an 06 Black Pearl Road Glide and I have a question for those with Clearview shields. What height are you guys running? I am 5'10" and what I consider proportional meaning my upper & lower torsos are the same, not longer on top or bottom??? For me, the height of the stock shield works and depending on how I sit, I can look over the shield or just through the top of the shield. Clearview only offers a shield for the R/G that is either one inch shorter or one inch taller than stock. I knmow they will custom cut a shield for a fee but if either one of these will work then that the way to go for cost, and I know they ship with the plastic sheets on for test rides. I'm just looking for imputs. Any on running a Road Zepplin seats? Thanks.

I'm 5-10 also, PG, got the 1 inch taller Clearview on mine and also have a Mustang Ultra Touring seat which sets me up about an inch higher than the stock seat. With this set-up I'm always looking over the w/s, which I like, but I'm a little high. I would prefer to be about an inch lower and I'm thinking about trimming the foam on my seat. A Clearview the same height as stock would be about perfect for me with my seat.

Hi Guys . Any one running the harley reach seat for the Rg. Gona try one at the dealer before i buy it . Just wondering if ya loose the comfort too.

I had the "Reach" seat on mine when I bought it. The prior owner was a small guy. He liked the seat because it gave him a better feel at stop lights and such and moved him closer to the controls. Personally I didn't like it. I am 5'10" and I found it was too cramped for me. I went back to the stock seat and sold the "Reach" on here.

I am 5' 6 and tried the reach seat. I found it moved me too far forward and worse that that the padding seemed a lot thinner....which did not suprise me. Did not take long to put the stock seat back on. I did install a lowering kit on the lower shock mounts. That works much better.

Ride safe.

My bike is actually a 2005 Electra Glide Classic (Peace Officer Edition), but it's got a Road Glide front end, so I think it belongs here.

Hi, new to this forum. I live on the east cast of Australia near Byron Bay. Have been reading alot about the Road Glide and i believe it is what i am looking for in a bike. Trouble is they don't import the Road Glide into Australia. My local dealer tells me that there have been some decussions with HD but it does not appear that we will see them in the 2007 release of models in Australia. I have noticed on the forum that some members have converted Ultras to the RG and i would like to know what the final cost was and how difficult it was to do. Would be very interested in hearing from anyone that has done it.

Thanks for the welcome
Not sure about the jade color, it`s a dark green metal flake that turns blue or purple when the sun hits it.
The bike was a one owner with 32,000 miles on it and all the extras.
Just got it last week and have only put about three hundred miles on it but so far i really like it.

I traded for a new black cherry pearl Road Glide in Aug 05 after returning from Sturgis trip on a 99 Fatboy. Bike now has 19,000 miles on it. It has a 103" Sreaming Eagle motor with ported and flowed heads by Radar, Reinharts and Power Commander. 105 hp/107 ft/lbs torque. Fat Bagger kit with 200 mm rear tire, RC Component 18" wheels, Metzler tires, inset cateye taillight. Custom graphics by Matt Riha at Curt Bacon Body Shop. Chopped Tour-pac. Short black windshield, Rally Rider seat. I like it because it is something a little different. It is comfortable on long rides and runs hard.

I have just begun work on my 2006 FLT. Currently I have replaced the pipes, floor boards, mirrors and other various bolt-ons. I have added a SE 6 Speed, back rest, oiler Cooler, chrome inner primary, fog lamps and some other less significant items. Left to do is a new Paint Job from Rock and Roll Custom Paint (they painted my Road King). Hopefully they will be complete with this in the fall.

Can anyone tell me the viewing difference of the road between the batwing fairing and the road glide fairing when riding? I have been told that the road glide fairing blocks a fair bit of the view of the road.

Here is a picture of my 2007 road glide that I picked up from the dealership on 9/15/06. It is a real pleasure driving the road glide. I rented the street glide and road glide before making my decision and the road glide won out. Also, I included a picture of my 2003 Deuce that I bought new.

Rick,
You are right about the benefit of the frame mounted fairing but are missing some of it's reason. You are 100% correct that not having anything hanging on the front makes easier to steer. But that is benefit is most realized at parking lot speeds. At normal speeds the fork mounted bat wing is like pushing air like a big piece of plywood on the front. There is "weight" to the air they are pushing and buffeting does translate into (unwanted) steering input. In that same vein, the air mass in contact with the fairing makes the steering heavy since the fairing is basically attached to the handle bard.
The shape of the frame mounted fairing has a reasonable aerodynamic benefit at speed. The sloped design of the fairing is such the "weight" of the air rushing across is pushing the front end into the ground but not putting any additional weight on to the handle bars.
None of this is to say my RoadGlide is going to steer like any rice rocket out there but I do agree I personally like it better than the bat wing types. That's my 2 cents and I am not trying to disrespect any of the other baggers. If everybody liked the same thing I guess they would only make one model.

ORIGINAL: rickc

I love it!

Rick

I'm an official Road Glide guy now. As you can see by my handle that I am a former Electra Glide Classic owner and I must say I am really liking the way this thing handles. I am still adjusting to the looks of the fairing but the longer I own it the more I like it. I don't see very many Road Glides in Iowa, it's nice to have a bike that's a little different than most. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your bikes.

Hello Everyone.
New here to this forum, I am just now nearing 500 miles on my new 2007 Road Glide and have loved every mile from the time I rode it home from the dealership. Didn't know for sure how I would feel since I have always rode Soft Tails, but I will tell everyone I will never go back!! I have installed a detachable tour pack and a detachable passenger back rest, changed the grips and floorboards, I plan on in the near future installing a rider backrest, but until then I am just going to ride the heck out of it!!!!

Dealer says you can't use a detachable tour pac with rear speakers on the 07 fltri. Something about the new radio must be programmed with the number of speakers prior to set up and if you fab a detachable speaker wire with the detachable tour pac, it will mess up the radio system. Anyone know anything about this?

having just ordered my '07 RG, I'm looking for luggage rack/pass. backrest options. Any shortfalls with your rail-style? As much as I like the "lower is better", not having to relocate the license plate makes sense. Relocating the antenna is no big deal. I've got the same driver's backrest from my '96 classic, is your passenger's fixed or does it fold down like the driver's?
