Good news is Spring is in the air and the weather is perfect for riding. Bad news here in NorCal is that the farmers already have the bees out to pollinate their crops, and man they hurt when you take 1 in the face at 65+ MPH!    Took a couple on bare skin and 1 smack dab in the middle of my goggle lense today.

My best bug story...Happened when I lived in Chicago. Cruising on the highway and bam!  A stinkin' June Bug smacks me in the knuckle then its guts splatter all over my face. The damn thing must have weighed 2 pounds!!! : )  Hurt like Hell (stupid me, no gloves) and literally covered my face with guts.

I've had one (a bee) shoot down my right jacket sleeve on the highway.  He got pissed and stung my forearm.  Hurt like a SOB...  Wear gauntlet gloves nowadays.

My best story isn't about a bug, but a bird.  Riding through a burb of Indy and a bird came around a building and bounced off my shoulder then my helmet.  Dam that hurt but I'm glad I had a helmet on, it might have taken me out

I did have a grasshopper or something splatter across my glasses last summer.  Don't really know what it was but there was a lot of yellow pus everywhere

Last Summer, I was running at my normal 85 on the Houston 610 Loop and got hit by a 4 lb (maybe less) dragon fly.
I wear glasses (thankfully safety) and that bastard hit half way on the glasses, halfway on my cheek. It splattered all over my face. I pulled into a convenience store to clean up and the clerk ask me if I needed him to call the EMT's It looked like my face was f--ked up.

had a bee or something with a stinger and whatever is injected into you, hit me in the neck and left me with an airway closing, fortunately I made to an E.R. for treatment. I've had birds hit me in the helmet and big bugs too numerous too count. but hey that's what it's all about.

Wasn't me but a true story...

A buddy of mine was riding and a little black bug kinda like a Lady Bug landed on his cheek while riding around town.  It didn't splatter on him so he tried flinging it off.  A couple of minutes latter he pulls over on the side of the road freaking out, taking his helmet off.  The damn bug crawled into his ear!!!!  He couldn't get it out and he could feel it crawling around.  We had to go to the ER and the docs had to flush it out.

It was kinda funny though...seeing him freak out like that!!!!  I thought he was BS'ing me at first.

I can relate to Clutch and the dragonfly.  Huge dragonflys are common on the gulf coast.  During a period of ignorance in my younger days, i was riding from Houston to Galveston with just a tank top on about 80 or so.  Something hit me in the shoulder and felt like I got shot.  I pulled over and noticed the semi large cut on my shoulder and the blood on my shirt and chest.  The only reason i know it was a dragonfly, it because of the wing left in the cut.  Hurt like a SOB.

I had a bee get in my t-shirt pocket. Stung the hel outa my nipple. That was the last time I wore a pocket t while riding. Had one get in my helmet and stung my ear. Also had a blackbird hit me in the knee while I was doing 75. That friggin hurt. I rode through a swarm of some kinda little bugs one night by the river. I was covered in dead bugs when I got home. That didn't hurt and someone got a laugh out of it.

Same here in northern Illinois. Last summer was year 17. They were definately out last summer, but not as bad as previous plagues. Some burbs had them bad, others had none. I had none at the house, but they were all over at work.

On motorway and had a wasp stuck between my temple and the helmet ... little f'er just kept on stinging till I managed to pull over and rip my helmet off !

I had to ride 500ml that day ... my vision was off in one eye for the first 200ml till the poison worked its way through ... nasty

Had a bird hit in the chest at 110 years ago ... thought I was having a heart attack !

I went to a bike rally in East Germany a couple of years ago.  It was a very hot day and one of the organisers was riding around the site wearing a pair of loose fitting shorts.

A wasp flew up the inside leg of his shorts and stung him on the ball bag.  He leapt from his bike and knelt on the ground clutching his crotch, moaning in agony.  His knackers were glowing bright red, like a pair of brake lights and had swelled up to the size of two tennis balls before the ambulance got there.  It makes my eyes water just thinking about it.  I saw him the next year in Holland and he told me he'd had a phobia about wearing shorts ever since that fateful day.  He wouldn't even wear them on the beach.  Oh! the joys of motorcycling.

Some years back while riding with my daughter in the country, I had a bumbler make it over the winshield, and went right in my helmet. I didn't get stung, but I think I broke the record for stopping distance. (mabe two inches) Poor kid had no idea why her head got planted in my back.
Another time, while riding home from work, I scooped up another that was sucked over the top of the windshield. This one got me good, right above the eye. I didn't see it coming, and I thought I was hit by a stone or a BB. My eye swelled up pretty quick. And oh, as I stood by the side of the road, it was quite apparent that I was hurt (stumbling around with my hand over my eye) and not one car stopped to see if I was OK. I drove home with 2D vision.
Now, this one isn't a bug er bee event, but while riding to work in the late fall, (still dark) I had two deer run out of a field. We are used to this here in North Central Illinois, so luckily I had good brakes. I missed them by a matter of feet. They're SO pretty UP CLOSE!

BTW, jefx - I see you live in Northern IL also. Shoot me a PM when you get a chance. Perhaps we can meet up sometime during the riding season.

Jack

Hey tomato, I got shot in the jugguler by a paintball!! That sucked b@lls! I also shot my buddy point blank in the thigh!! How you wonder?? Well, my marker at the time had an electronic trigger, and safety, well I thought it was on, and I took the barrel plug out. My buddy was sitting next to me, and like a douche I decided to pull the trigger and THWACK! got him right in the thigh!! He started screaming then suddenly stopped and said it didn't hurt as bad as he was expecting!? Dude, he had a bruise that was about 6" around!!

I got a Jeep story, I was stationed in Italy and a pheasant walked out in front of me, and THUD, all I saw in my rear view mirror was a cloud of feathers.... whoops! Now that I think about it, I hit a pidgeon a week later w/ my side view mirror!? Stupid pidgeons!! They should go back to Venice, dumb things!

Best was when the mother-in-law insisted on going for a ride when my bike was new. She wouldn't wear the wifes helmet. Took her on a short spin up the interstate an exit and back. Getting off the exit she took a june bug off the cheek. Face was swollen for 2 days. Me and the wife laughed all the way home. Still laughing as I type!!

Was riding along a nice quiet country road one morning..taking in the serenity...and notice a big old Monark butterfly gracefully making his way across a field and towards the road. I was impressed with it's natural beauty and the way the bright yellows and black contrasted with the lush counrtyside...it was beautiful... masterpiece of living art and I felt privileged to have witnessed this natural wonder.........then the fuggin ugly, clumsy, non manueverin big bastid slammed into the left side of my face.  I had wings and guts and goo all over and stuck in between my glasses and nose. I hate nature.

THis thread is good readin'!

Seems like Illinois takes the award for the most incidents.  I remember 1 Cicada season when I was about 4 or 5 years old- circa 1974.  Everything in town was crawling. You literally couldn't even see the sidewalks or streets. Didn't ride back then, however. Only a Green Machine...

ANother IL story. Rolling from ROckford to Chicago on I90, and I see some moron up ahead in a small pickup with 5-6 mattresses loaded in the back.  Sure enough, I get within about 200 yards and the top one flys out like a friggin' glider - headed straight for me.  Doing 70 MPH, so not much chance for evasive maneuvers...I swerved left and missed the damn thing by about a foot. That sucked, but it was sure an adrenaline rush. I caught up to the beeaatch and let him know what a useless peuke he was.

I wear my full face quite a bit - on long rides. Pro Grip makes an awesome stick on insert that really works. No fog. I got the tinted one as well. Enough to run without shades during the day, but also clear enough for night...

Okay, mine's not a bug story either.  I was riding one day, and thank God it was cold, wearing my full helmet.  Cruising about 70 and a bird smacked me just above the helmet lens.  Right between the eyes.  It hit so hard my head flew back and it knocked me silly.  I was seeing stars when I pulled over to gather my wits.  My helmet has vents in it and for a month afterwards I would have these little tiny feathers drifting around inside my helmet with me.  Just a little reminder to me, I guess, that even though I had a bad day that day, it was a worse day for the bird...hehe.

About 15 years ago I was travelling the highway wearing a Shoei full face.  In the forehead area were two small holes for summer ventilation.  Each hole was about 3/8".  Suddenly I felt a hit to the head that I thought was going to knock me out.  I stopped to see what the he!! happened and a horse fly had caught one of the holes perfectly dead center !!
