When I went to Louisiana Tech I think if a person started shooting people would not have made to far.
I think if more people were armed all of these shooting would come to a end.
Tough call. I work in a college town and deal with college aged people. I often question the maturity level of college students based on the foolish things that they do. I often wonderhow guns, binge drinking, jilted love, and too much testosterone would mix. Don't get me wrong....I am far from anti-gun. When I was a college student, I owned many guns, including handguns.

There is a lot of stereotyping the college kids,I've done it too. But when you look at some of these young cops, they arekids their self. My point being, you can find afair amountof matureCCWcollege students who are just as capable of handling a firearm! "Training" is the key word.
When it comes to the faculty being armed, sure. The problem you run into with the instructors/professors is that most of them are liberal, who don't believe in owning a firearm let alone protecting theirself or others.

Sure, there are cops that are college aged. However, the selection process to get them is usually a very long one. I know. Besides the written and physical test, we do a pyschological test, an extenstive background check, and then train them for 10 months before we ever give them a gun. The process weeds out all but the best (most of the time). A 2 day, weekend CCW course won't do the same.
I work in a college town with 30k students. I am sure that there is more than a fair amount of them that are mature enough to pack heat. However, it's that minority of ones that aren't that concern me.

I, too, would have strong reservations regarding giving blanket permission for any and every person on a college campus to carry concealed if they had a permit. Much of it is for the same reasons listed by others.
However, I do think allowing seniors who have been vetted by a college-run training program through the campus police to carry might be one option. If the college had a Police Science program, its students might be suitable. (just throwing out ideas here) Or maybe an ROTC program.
Regardless, a program needs to be implemented that allows both students and facualty greater latitude in their own security on campus.
What if the college offered heavily discounted courses to members of LE agencies with the stipulation that the officers would become part of the campus security network while on campus. OR, organize a program modeled after sports porgrams, but instead of a sport, it would be a "security team" open to juniors, seniors, grad students, and faculty. (again, just throwing this out there)

Funny thing. We did live shooter training in a school auditorium back in December. Our "shooter" did the same thing the NIU did. He was on a stage and fired in to the seating. He was actively firing as we made entry. You can see what a "fatal funnel" the door way was. Pretty much our training has shifted to where be basically run the gauntlet on the shooter and accept the fact that we are going to have police casualties. Right now, we are basically working under the assumption that their will only be bad guys with guns in the room when we charge it. Imagine what it will be like, if and when, they allow CCW holders in the classrooms. I guess our training will shift again. I certainly will be tough to run and and tell the good from the bad in a shoot out.
If a citizen is trusted with a weapon in other places I see no reason why a college should be any different. If a state is going to allow a person of college age to get a concealed weapons permit than a school should not ban that person from carrying on campus.
