Below is a link with a few pics listed in photobucket, these aresome pics of my 1981 FXS Lowrider that I am about to place on the market to sell. What I am wanting to know from you guys is what is a fair price for this bike?

A little history about the bike. My brother bought this bike new in 1981. I bought it from him in 1994 with 7,000 miles on it. The bike now has 31,000 original miles. I know the history of this bike and it has been well maintaned it's entire life... the bike has never hit the ground. I had the top end rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago. The bike was bored .010 to clean up the cylinders, Harley pistons, Sifton cam, Crane Hi-4 Single Fire Ignition and S&S Super E. All the hoses and cables are stainless and as you can see from the pictures every part, bracket, bolt and nut has been chromed on this bike. I changed all the fluids last weekend, spark plugs, new battery, both tires are in good shape- this bike is ready to get on and ride. It doesn't smoke, have any leaks around the engine and the bike is mechanically in excellent shape. I have most all of the original parts and they will also go with the bike including the seat, carb, air cleaner, front fender, cam and assorted other goodies.

Would you take a look at the pictures and give me some ideas on what you think this bike will bring? Heck, you could even make me an offer if you were interested. I live in Kemp, TX that is about 50 miles south of Dallas.

Thanks for your input.

I bought my 1983 FXDG from one my best freinds (may as wellbe my brother) in 2003. He had bought it in 1984. The bike will go to my son when he gets older, if he keeps on the straight and narrow.

IMHO you should hang on to the bike. What better legacy for your kids or your brother's kids than to pass this gem on to them. That does appear to be a beautifully cared for machine. Keep it in the family, pass it down.

I had a new 1980 Low Rider. It cost $5,995.00 at the time. I saw one in a classified ad a couple of years ago. The guy wanted $5,900.00 for it.

wow, what a pristine machine. You should seriously reconsider selling that, it's just a beauty.

Shovels seem to be a rock bottom price in the USA now (a foreigner writes). would you even get $8,000 for it, including the premium for 'all known history' ?

Yet, in Australia it would certainly fetch $13,000

and in the UK, it would find $12,000

Export it!

I have a 81 FXE. I agree with the other post that the harley market is down including prices for shovels. I think if I was going to sell mine I would ask for $8500 or so. But I like riding it to much to sell!! NADA for a 81 FXS is $8,200 in very good shape.
